I am feeling like the main message is lost. Clearly Incarna is an expansion that offers very little to the devout Eve player. The last 6 months have been nothing but nerfs and subtractions. The JB nerfs, the skill changes, agents, other stuff i'm forgetting. Take a look at the indy indicies throughout null sec. There are some big problems snowballing while you siphen off all the cash from Eve.
STop trying to invent ways to overheat my PC in the process. Do you want me running two accounts or none? You need to be realistic with yourselves. We all know many many players box, yet you come out with more BS about how you spec to one client. Get back in touch with your player base please.
The CSM role was weak at best and I question the purpose for the entire thing: shallow, shallow results.
Two weeks ago I had more from the game than I have now. The same goes for a few months ago vs now. Incarna adds nothing the core player really wants. I'm sure lots of fanbois will buy your swamp water but my patience grows thin.

When they set a spec, they set it at entry level, meaning with 1 client and a lowish graphics setting in mind. So if your PC meets that spec you should at least be able to play one way or another. Games usually have a recommended level too, so best to meet that spec at least if you want more from the game. But over time these specs will increase anyway as the game evolves.
The main message for a lot of people was not Incarna, it was non-vanity items that give game advantages. Although Incarna was an issue, but not the main one.

I hope they offer some flying eve board to glide in stations ... walking is so boring and the messed up WASD controls are nothing short of a disappointment. Arcade games offer a better control over you`re avatar

Works fine for me, then again I use mouse buttions, and I have a real pro mouse too. :P

Hold down both buttons and steer with the ball, works amazingly well for walking around. And I never have to move my hand, so my lazy ass is even happier. :)

By 'we' you mean 'I'.
Personally 'I' think it has lots of potential. Yes there are bugs that will need to be (and will be) ironed out. But after 6 years ship spinning gets a bit old you know. The new turrets and effects are outstanding.
Don't ever presume to tell me what I do or don't like.
Edit: Can run 3 accounts on a laptop quite well. In station does get a little laggy but not unpleasant.

I think you need to realize that Incarna is a necessary addition to continue growing EVE Online. EVE is now the only viable space MMO after Star Trek Online.
I am a devout EVE player, and I spend half my time in the CQ because I am busy devising fits for my ships, I'm busy working on PI, and I am developing plans for my alliance/corporation.
You are a bittervet. You are someone who does not embrace the new direction of EVE. Now, I am sure CCP is working on further expansions for the core player, but Incarna is a major priority at this time for CCP. Especially with its incomplete state.
TL;DR - Quit *****ing and get back to your pew pew.

Clearly there are several people who can't wait to break out the credit card to buy some virtual boots and walk around.
But clearly there are several other people who have absolutely no interest in this.
CCP has only really worked for the first group for the last few years and neglected the second.
Can't we get balance it out somewhat? For the last year or 2 there ahve been 70 developers on incarnatransactions and 22 developers to deal with the entire inspace game. Can we swap those numbers for 2 years?
I'm a member of the group who sees almost no value in incarna. I'm sure many like me have quit after the 18 month debacle. Is there any hope that ccp will do anything to keep me and bring back those who quit?

Yesterday I was camped in station for 30 min. I sat and watched the tv which wasnt all that bad. I learned that several new players joined eve, several people have rather large bounties on them, where incursions are happening, that an alliance was terrible and lost sov and that the thorax is now up for sale in station
I like Incarna.

I see several people here saying they want Incarna. It's pretty clear though all of them are saying "as long as it does X" though. Really I've not seen many say Incarna is a bad idea in theory. The discussion at hand is what will actually be delivered and what we gave up for it.
Just because you want Incarna doesn't protect you from the same disappointment the OP already feels.

Awww, someone missed nap time? If you are unhappy quit. They are committed to Incarna, it is going forward, and even the huge protest and demand for ship spinning got a promise to work ship spinning into Incarna. Not separate from or a replacement of Incarna, a small part of it to be developed later. Your desire will not be met.

If we filled this thread with the changes, improvements to old content, and bug fixes that has happened over the last 2 years we would fill up the next couple of pages of this thread. All that done with heavy manpower devoted to other projects.
We've got one more release to go, the one that brings in the multiplayer aspect of Incarna before the development heavy lifting is done, which pretty much falls right in line with the 18 month statement they made a year ago.
Your questions have been answered for some time, you just refuse to acknowledge it.

Quote: Clearly Incarna is an expansion that offers very little to the devout Eve player.
It offers a lot. It changes a lot. Where you used to only be able to fly a ship, you now have a body to walk around in. Do you understand the potential this has? When fully developed, Incarna will offer you an experience like no other.
Honestly, I wouldn't feel excited in expansions if all they released were bug fixes and more spaceships (in a game that's already about spaceships.)

I'm not sure if you are kidding. Yes you will have a computer body that you can pay money to dress up and walk around in. But that doesn't really sound like a fun game to me. Does it to you?
Ill admit I don't get it. And I will concede that despite my not getting it, lots of people seem to want to do this.
But can others not concede that there are many eve players who are like me and have little to no interest in this?

Sure there are aspects of Incarna I don't like, mostly that it doesn't offer player anything really tangible in terms of important changes to the game. Yes instead of station spinning I get to stare at my character and listen to my new pc's fans running very very frequently just to cool off the 'intense' station environment whilst my character stands their scratching himself- *low system requirements, that's a lark ccp!*.
Sure there's a vanity shop for those who want to spend more money on items that thankfully don't do anything beneficial.
But what about adding content into the game? Even better, why not fix or improve upon aspects of the game that have fallen to the way side in order to push out a half developed child that is this station environment? Most of us would be perfectly OK with an old Eve GFX engine if everything else in Eve worked fine, or even most of Eve for that matter, but as it stands now we get more and more intense GFX and less and less functionality... how does this make sense?

Do not presume to speak for anyone but yourself and your minority.
The rest of us have the mental capacity to see the forest from the trees.
Why do you claim the players who think incarna is sucking up far too much of ccp's time are a "minority"?
It clearly is not just him. A year ago many other players were upset that CCP decided to dedicate so many resources to incarna. True many of those players have probably left the game because they could see the writing on the wall. But until there is poll with some sort of scientifically signifciant results, you have no business claiming we are minority.
I would think that even now most players think incarnatransactions are sucking up too much of CCP's resources that could be spent on the inspace eve.
But in any case I am curious why so many players supposedly want incarna so bad. Paying for virtual clothes so you can have a computer avatar walk around in them? Walking walking walking - yep thats me in a long sleeve shirt and blue pants. Here I am in a yellow tshirt and gray pants. But I'm not just in a t-shirt and gray pants I'm walking in them!!!

Let's assume that indeed he is speaking for "a lot" of people. Still doesn't give him the right to speak for us, as he is NOT speaking for me. But considering that anyone that disagrees with you is a "most oblivious of noobs and fanboys" that "arent comprehending" I don't expect you to understand the difference anyway. So carry on.

You've been waiting 6 years for the ability to do something literally every other MMO in existence bases itself on? WTF are you doing playing eve then?
Anyway, assuming the forums are any indication of how people feel in general (which they really aren't, but it's the best we have) the number of people supporting WIS has been notably lower than the number who think it's a waste. Personally I think that the whole thing wouldn't be such a big deal if CCP fixed some of the more glaring problems with the game *coughblastersblackopsEAFsfactionwarfarecough* but the fact that they spent the better part of a year (and the lesser part of closer to 5 years) making something so useless while completely ignoring things that people have been actively CAMPAIGNING to have fixed/changed for YEARS bothers me.
Oh, and the fact that the expansion offered so little, even to those who DID want WIS, is hilarious. Am I the only one who half expected to log on for the first time, play for a few minutes, only to have the camera pan out to reveal my character playing eve on a monitor while definitely not being pleasured by 2 chicks who are definitely not the Olson twins, only to have them ask "Well, was the game any good Duke Cam?" Only to have my guy reply with "Yeah, but after 12 6 damn years it better be."
In the end I didn't even get that :( All I got was a something that looks more like the alpha to an actual game (I wonder which one that could be...hmm...), offers no real content, breaks several different aspects of the game, needlessly nerfs others, makes it very difficult for many people to multibox, AND lays down the framework for microtransactions(not even going into the fact that this essentially makes this eve's first expansion that's NOT free, in a game where one of their selling points has always been not having to pay for expansions), which at this point regardless of what CCP says, are going to end up involving game-changing items (my money's on boosters, maybe a non-timelocked cerebral accelerator) |

Yeah, add me to the list.
I've been playing Eve for almost 4 months, and I wouldn't have lasted 30 days prior to the Incursion patch. I've been playing MMOs for 15 years, and Eve is just now getting features that I have been used to for 15 years. Since we've all presumably read the patch notes for the Incursion and Incarna updates, I won't have to list the new features but I will comment on one thing: switching from ship to ship should be as fast as it is now, not as slow as it was in May.
That alone would have chased me off the game.
I also look forward to walking around in space stations because I find the missions in this game repetitive and, frankly, boring as ****.
That's just me. If you like missions, run them. If you like mining, do some. I prefer to interact with other players.

Edited by: Linar Mardolak on 03/07/2011 15:38:49 Even as someone who has strongly disagreed with CCP's other directions, I like Incarna. I don't need ship spinning, though it's okay. I'd like to see dock to hangar->choose to enter CQ for better immersion. However, I very much want WiS. I want to see immersive gameplay on the stations and on the planets. I quite like the idea of DUST, even though I think it's not being ideally implemented. I'd like to see more interaction between DUST/stations/capsuleers, not less. I'm happy with decorative avatar items, though I'd prefer player-built items, not MT.
In short, your opinion is not shared by me, nor by most players, as shown by the replies here.

They've been talking about it for years. They've been developing it in one form of the others for years. It's not going away.
Be happy that they're rethinking the whole "Load station environment" situation to accommodate those that can't run Incarna or those that don't want to run it.

Hi, I just want to let you know how much one of the 3 following you are, not sure which; trolling? daft? complaining about the wrong thing?
I benchmark my PC constantly. Incarna runs slower than Incursion with CQ on. Incarna runs FASTER than Incursion with CQ off.

Since you ask me so nicely...
Incarna opens up a few opportunities that you seem to be missing in your obsession with dressing up (anyone else thinking 'in denial'?).
First, they are creating a new (non-glittery) vampire MMO which will have combat outside of spaceships. There is the opportunity to introduce this combat to Eve. I have no idea if they have any plans to so so, but the potential is there.
Next, there is the potential offered to increase the gameplay available to the merchants in the playerbase. I only joined SWG in the final days, but I was impressed with how they allowed the crafters to set up shop. Again, only talking potential.
Some people I know who play MMOs don't like Eve since they feel they are playing a ship and not a character. Only partly understood that, but having a character might encourage more of them to play and it won't be just 'dressing up' they'd do. I'm assuming that this will apply to more then just the few people I know. A larger player base could be good for the game.
Now it could be that they don't develop it to its full potential, but I think you'd have to be pretty dim to think that they would spend this long on a game, have it as their principal revenue source, then gamble it all on making it a dress up game (even if some people would buy a secret account )
Myself, I'm looking forward to the WoD MMO, but I'm also hoping that they take some of the features from that game and introduce them to this one.
I could be totally wrong, but at least I'm not the idiot saying mine is the only viewpoint, and you must be a loser if you disagree.

Not everyone can, and not everyone who's wanting Incarna real bad understand those that don't. It's really not a big deal in itself, but there's a problem with the people who think X yelling with all their might Y is the most evil thing ever and will kill everyone on this planet if introduced. And in reply people thinking Y yell the same thing about X.
Tastes, desires, viewpoints and whatnot differ from person to person, and understanding that (while not necessarily understanding the others' views) is a good start for a good community. Waiting to see that happen here :p
In general, every expansion EVE has ever had has had its doomsayers and "DO NOT WANT"-crew, perhaps not quite as vocal as in this case, but they're always there. The issue is not the content they don't want, it's just that CCP doesn't have the exact priorities they think CCP should have, and they're pretty much incapable of expressing their disagreement in ways that doesn't involve bratty whine. And I'm not saying you're whining, just to be sure I'm not misunderstood.
For the reference, I really want what Incarna is promising, but what it's not delivering as is. Also, I want a RP filter for the corp finder.
Edit: I fail at quoting

I would not mind Incarna, if it would be implemented properly.
The current iteration is pathetic, both functionally (there is nothing you CAN do) and technically (runs slower than Crysis, while not looking remotely as nice, AA missing from some areas on certain graphic cards, etc.).
Also, I would not mind Incarna if the tons of issues affecting EVE current gameplay (which is mostly about flying and fighting in Internet Spaceships) would be fixed FIRST.
As long as CCP focuses on Incarna just as a showcase for overpriced MT items in the NEX, I could not care less about it. My other 2 accounts have already expired, so I will hang around in this 3rd one until it runs out as well to see what happens next ...

To bad so sad. Some of us have been waiting 6 years for WIS. We've finally seen the first part of it. I like it and I want more of it! Bring on the works CCP - I can take it and so can my comp!
In the end I didn't even get that :( All I got was a something that looks more like the alpha to an actual game (I wonder which one that could be...hmm...), offers no real content, breaks several different aspects of the game, needlessly nerfs others, makes it very difficult for many people to multibox, AND lays down the framework for microtransactions(not even going into the fact that this essentially makes this eve's first expansion that's NOT free, in a game where one of their selling points has always been not having to pay for expansions), which at this point regardless of what CCP says, are going to end up involving game-changing items (my money's on boosters, maybe a non-timelocked cerebral accelerator)

I dont want incarna at the expense of my computer hardware (yay, my fans currently deafening me).
I dont want incarna at the expense of bug fixes (there was a capital ship in hisec a few days ago ffs).
Fix real issues, then folk wont give a damn about incarna. Or theyll love it. I dont give a damn tbh, but ignoring the game of serious internet spaceships to develop space barbies? Wow, thats awesome, just what we signed up for.

Your original post came across (to me at least) as saying that there was no potential of Incarna to improve Eve. I just provided some throw away ideas. Some things from Eve could help WoD, and vice versa.
Originally by: Raz Xym
Originally by: Molokhe
First, they are creating a new (non-glittery) vampire MMO which will have combat outside of spaceships. There is the opportunity to introduce this combat to Eve. I have no idea if they have any plans to so so, but the potential is there.
That is great, they are creating another game. Does nothing for Eve. I don't even no how to respond to the "introduce this combet to eve" thing. You have played eve right?
I have, and do play Eve. Again I'm only talking potential, but they could introduce a non-spaceship form of combat to expand Eve. Some players may enjoy this in addition to fighting in spaceships.
Originally by: Raz Xym
Originally by: Molokhe
Next, there is the potential offered to increase the gameplay available to the merchants in the playerbase. I only joined SWG in the final days, but I was impressed with how they allowed the crafters to set up shop. Again, only talking potential.
What value would this bring? Eve has one of the best auction/market places already. Why would I want to stand infront of a market stall? I played SWG, I loved SWG, but just because it worked there does not mean it will bring value to Eve. And again, this is a pipe dream.
Even one of the best can be improved, otherwise it'd be The Best.

Now it could be that they don't develop it to its full potential, but I think you'd have to be pretty dim to think that they would spend this long on a game, have it as their principal revenue source, then gamble it all on making it a dress up game (even if some people would buy a secret account )
I think you could be pretty dim if you think game developers can't lose touch with their game. You mentioned SWG, didnt you?
Yes, SWG's developers did lose touch. I'm still not convinced that Eve's have. And firing all their Dev's to hire shoe designers, would still be dim.

Myself, I'm looking forward to the WoD MMO, but I'm also hoping that they take some of the features from that game and introduce them to this one.
I could be totally wrong, but at least I'm not the idiot saying mine is the only viewpoint, and you must be a loser if you disagree.
I am glad you are looking forward to some other game. If there are features WoD, that make sense in Eve, I hope they implement them also. But I stand by what I said. And I never said you couldnt have a different viewpoint. But I do question people who think Incarna is leading Eve in the right direction. I guess I can't do that.
Sorry, I must have misread your original post, but apart from implying that if I like Incarna that I was a loser who needs to dress up princesses, the term 'Open Your Eyes' made me think you were telling me that what I was thinking was wrong and I should accept your Truth. If that wasn't your intent, I apologise.
Of course you can question whether Incarna is taking Eve down the wrong route. It may well be, but your original post wasn't questioning it, it was telling us it wasn't and we were pretty stupid to believe otherwise.

Incarna doesn't add much, that's for sure. I can't say I'm all that amazed with my little in-station apartment... But I do want Incarna. I want the rest of what it promises - the complete experience of walking around inside a station, or in a ship, or on a planet.
From the very beginning, CCP has talked about EVE being a complete sci-fi universe. And I've loved that idea since the first day I started playing. Sure, internet spaceships are fun... But I couldn't wait to see how people lived in those stations I was visiting... What the surface of those planets looked like... What the halls of my own ship looked like...
I've always wanted the complete EVE experience - not just internet spaceships. And I'm thrilled that we're finally seeing some of it.

Different CQ, War rooms, public areas for players to meet and trade illegal boosters... I could add a lot of details and much more to this list. Incarna, as it is now is just a platform, the very basic feature that a lot of possible future content depend on.

Sometimes people who play the game 365 days a year don't see the improvements. I had to leave in 2007 when they ditched the old client, my computer was so old that I couldn't run the Trinity client. I got a new PC a few months ago and came back to the game and it looks fantastic with lots more to do and a huge amount of ships added, plus Wormholes etc. Then Incarna gets released that adds a whole new dimension to the game, granted it is not much yet but multiplayer is being added later in the year and racial CQ are being added over the next few months. I like this expansion and the potential is huge.
I think some players should realize that this game is turning into a more complete Sci-Fi universe and not just about spaceships. I for one welcome it but I understand some players may not.
Maybe sometime time in the future we'll get an Archaeology type mission that starts in space flying ships but finishes on some planet, controlling your avatar Mirror's Edge style Yeah I know that type of mission will be years into the future if ever, but the potential is there and I hope the development eventually leads to that style of Universe as long as the complexity of the game remains intact.

If your graphics card is that crappy, turn off CQ... Nobody is forcing you to play the game with CQ turned on. And your graphics card has insufficient cooling, you may want to get a better cooling unit for it. Must be one of them nvidia grills.

On top of that, if they could figure out how to roll out the true nature of eve in Incarna, we could end up with hand to hand combat, poker, back room drug deals, assasinations, detention rooms...they could do a great deal with it.

You are really excited to see your character walking in a different rooms? I don't understand this myself.

You dont want the backend coding that is gunna let ccp properly update our UI. You dont want wat is going to set up walking in station so that we may play poker adn other games and poke each other in the eyes? You dont want to be able to interact with dust pilots who like it or not will affect us.

I'm sure lots of fanbois will buy your swamp water but my patience grows thin.
tl;dr
"We"?? You speak for all of the subscribed players, or do you claim to speak for the failquitters who failed to quit? You certainly don't speak for me.

What do you guys mean you "want" incarna. You have incarna it was released about a month ago.
I hope your happy.
This isn't Incarna. This is a horribly implemented, poorly optimized, dated abortion of an attempt at what CCP promised with WIS. I am aware CCP has recently said that they're working on a number of performance issues, but for the love of christ, how this even made it out the door is beyond me.

What do you mean its not incarna? Are you walking in a station? Are you able to try on new clothes for your character? Does it not say "incarna" in big letters.
Guys this is incarna! Yes it sucks but the whole idea of a game where you strut around wearing virtual clothes sucks.

Yes, you do need to spell it out, let me spell it for you:
U-N-S-U-B-S-C-R-I-B-E
There.
That's all CCP pays attention to (they've told us that, repeatedly.) And that's the ONLY way to get Incarna rolled back. Anything else is just delicious golden goose tears.

I DO want Incarna. But not the crappy little empty room with a sofa. I want player-run economy to grow with ground-based products and services, I want full integration, based on eve principles of maximum freedom and consequences instead of artificial obstacles.
I want player-made clothing to be sold on market for ISK instead of nex ****ing store. And I want to choose if I want to exit my ship and pod or not.
I DO want Incarna, but a better, proper one. The promised one. Current one is ****. CCP can do better, it is sad they choose not to. -- "Say yes to pron on Concord billboards" campaing. Eve mercenaries portal: http://www.eve-mercs.com |

I have a four year old PC that was slightly better than middle-of-the-road when I originally built it. I can still run two copies of Incarna at the same time just fine. Maybe you shouldn't have bought an E-Machine.

What do you mean want it? We have incarna. We can walk in stations now. Log in check it out!
We can walk in stations in different pants. We can walk in stations in different shirts. We can walk in stations in different boots. Whats the matter with how we walk in stations that needs to be tweaked?
What do you mean grow? You mean you want to watch us walk in different room back drops? You want to watch other avatars walk in different room back drops? How much time do should we give it?
Walking in stations is so awesome, my feet hurt just thinking about it. It reminds me of shopping with my wife.

You are really excited to see your character walking in a different rooms? I don't understand this myself.
Why don't you trade your illegal boosters on the market like everyone else? Are you excited to see some sort of animation when you trade them in incarna?
I really don't get it.
It improved the looks of my main character (I consider the new character editor a part of Incarna), most of all I love the potential it has. Have you read the devblogs and player suggestions on the past years?
Smuggling will be tied into Incarna, players will have to meet face to face if they want to trade illegal goods, the spaceship part will also benefit from this when players keep a lookout for smugglers, while other people smuggle the stuff. Of course you might say this could also be done with a station interface, yet Incarna improves the immersion factor when you have to personally meet someone to trade your illegal boosters with.
I also knew from the very beginning that the first version of Incarna would just be a platform to build everything else on and no doubt, much more is coming.

The characters look a bit better. But other than that all I hear is "yay we will trade illegal boosters face to face." As you can see I already mentioned this. I assume we will no longer be able to buy them on the market and buying them will be a bit more of an ordeal, but I am not thrilled about that.

To be honest I don't know why people keep on moaning about it. Incarna is here, it is an important feature for EVE's future and I can't see CCP suddenly just dropping it. Some people cannot see the potential it has or more probably, don't want to see it, all they go on about is dressing up Barbie dolls which is complete crap. I'd sooner have the start of another dimension to the game like this than another 100 ships made available. But that's just me, each to their own.

Can't be bothered to read through pages and pages of stuff. But the performance argument gets on my nerves a bit.
If you've played PC games for any length of time, you gotta be used to upgrading your hardware every once in a while.
If Eve is gonna be around for a while then its base system requirements will inevitably be raised when a graphical update comes along.
They could make Incarna optional, but they want everyone to use it, so why not just force it now rather than later?
New PC components are also a fair bit cheaper than they were a few years back. My HD6950 (ú200) P67 motherboard (ú80) and Sandy Bridge Core i5 (ú150) is enough to run two clients in CQ, with full detail on and anti aliasing. An even cheaper system will be fine if you only have one client or just turn the detail down.
Just a graphics card upgrade should be enough. Oh and a few other games are coming out this Christmas which are worth having an upgraded system for too.
