I'm just a poor high/low sec "carebear" as hardcore pvpers call us so could someone explain to me few things in this video?
- why someone took gallente fleet to attack anything? why not amarr/minmatar? - why trap worked? no one noticed local spike? - why the traping forces didn't put bubles on gallente? - why amarr forces get at warpable range? - why gallente didn't warp out? - why interceptors wasn't destroyed by zealoths or other hac snipers on approach? - why no one created warpable bookmark with a little scanning? - why amarr fleet wasn't bubbled? - why amarr fleet didn't warp out?
I don't know much about pvp, other than what i read in forums so was those really goofs or is it real? |

I think CCP was scared to show a video of what Incarna actually is...... A 2 sec blip in the whole trailer.... Way to hide the truth from the people you are trying to get to sub.....The only function Incarna has for now is to give people access to a jail cell, a mirror and $1000 pants.....
I like having a history of Eve, however I 100% agree with Lady Spank... The reward is AUR??????? This is just an attempt to push the money store down peoples throats again........ If they have to look at their AUR balance they will buy... That mentallity sucks.... Matter of fact let me turn that AUR crap off so I don't have to look at it.....

-could have been a RP Corp, yes there are some out there that take out certain race fleets -Even if they did notice local spike, BS's take almost forever to align -Maybe none of their bubble pilots were on? lol -they thought they could take out the gallente ships before they actually got together and retaliated -BS's take forever to align -they could have been focusing on the gallente BS's -who did you want to have a warpable BM? -the gallente interceptors were all over them -the gallente interceptors were all over them
idk this what i thought of, of each one of your comments lol

So fleets aren't prealigned just in case? Fleet fights are more like stationary slugfest?
I was takeing it as a given but in low sec carebearing being prealigned and at speed is rather recommended. |

To answer your question:
CCP never properly represents what the game actually is in any trailer..... I mean christ, this was an Incarna trailer and they gave a 2 second glance at CQ. They didn't give the tour of the jail cell. They didn't show off the $1000 pants. They didn't show a graphics card going Chernobyl....
Hell, the only thing they did show with that 2 second blip on the CQ is the average time before disabling it.....

Oh sorry I tuned out because you were whining, but what was that about a hooker - now I'm interested?
Seriously...Were going to have a whine on this thread too? ... I think this is very clever way of tapping into something at the centre of the game experience. We're being asked to describe some defining moments for us and the game. Even if you separate the advertising this will be a good documentation project.
My carebear playing style hasn't yielded many stories, but I'll be trying to figure out something.

Sure... the mechanics of the indicent are questionable but...
'I was there' made me think of the LCD Soundsystem 'Losing My Edge'
Bitter Vet Soundsystem - Losing My Edge
Yeah, I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge. The kids are coming up from behind. I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge to the kids from Russia and from London. But I was there.
I was there in 2003. I was there at the first Beta tests in my Reaper. I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge to the kids whose Rifters I see when they fly through lowsec. I'm losing my edge to the EFT warriors who can tell me the DPS of every good fit from frigates to caps.
I'm losing my edge. To all the gangs in Delve and Curse. I'm losing my edge to the low sec pirates in assault ships and borrowed nostalgia for nano cruisers.
But I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge, but I was there. I was there. But I was there.
I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge. I can see the Rifters every night in low-sec. But I was there.
I was there in 2004 in sniper fleets taking an outpost in Scalding Pass. I was leading a wing of Apocs with much patience. I was there when Sir Molle started up his first corp. I told him, "Don't be a carebear. You'll never make a dime." I was there. I was the first guy winning a Curse Blueprint from the lottery I gave it away. Everybody thought I was crazy.
We all know. I was there. I was there. I've never been wrong.
I used to work for CCP Games. I knew everything before anyone. I was there when Ascendant Frontier built their first outpost. I was there in the fleet that made the first Titan kill. I was podded by an NPC in 2004 before they fixed that bug.
But I'm losing my edge to younger, faster people with less baggage and more time. And they're actually really, really nice.
I'm losing my edge.
I heard you have a hangar with every item in the database, every limited edition ship, all the tournament ships, all the rare skillbooks. I hear you have a Revelation parked in a hi-sec trade hub. I heard that you have a container with every cosmos blueprint, and item. I heard that you have a state issue raven, and a box full of pieces from a Jovian.
I hear you're buying a New PC and Monitor and are throwing your Laptop out the window because you like the captains quarters. You want to buy a monocle.
I Hear that you and your gang have sold your Ishkurs and bought Daredevils. I hear that you and your band have sold your Daredevils and bought Ishkurs.
I hear everybody in your corp is more has more kills than everybody in my corp.
But have you seen my killboard? I've beat your Utu, Cerberus, Legions and Tengus. Moros, a Thorax, your Black Ops, Typhoon, some Drakes, Sacrilege, Maller and Omen. Sleipnir, Cormorant, Cheetah, Incursus, Deimos, Eos, a Navy Issue Raven, Blackbirds, Hel, Leviathan and Nagflar. Wolf, Reaper, Stilleto, Muninn, Orca, Enyo, Devoter, Iteron V, Retribution, Jaguar, Scimitar, Aeon, Nyx, Helios, Loki, Bhaalgorn,Ishkur, Brutix, Impel, Scythe Fleet Issue ("just hit me"!), one Thanatos, Daredevil, Heretic, Probe, Honor! Tanked! Dreadnought!, two Sins, Ferox, Manticore, Phoenix, Curse, Armageddon Navy Issue, Succubus, Cynabal, a Rifter, a Rifter, a Rifter, a Rifter, a Rifter.....
You don't know what you really want. <repeat To fade> Spaceships! |

I have some nice pics of the assaults on Jita and Amarr. I'll add those. :P
All kidding aside tho... this is a 'meh' idea. It's also a shame it comes on the heels of some of the worst PR I've ever seen come out of your company. I predict your bright shiny new website will not really bring in the numbers you lost recently, much less attract many newcomers to Eve.
You guys have earned a bad rep lately, I'm afraid. And bad rep is hard to beat with just websites and marketing. It takes a real dedication to shoring up your internal issues and bringing on the content and, wait for it... game play, that will make people *want* to play Eve. Somehow the marketing folks have convinced the developer folks that they can sell ice to Eskimo's here - your problem is not now and never has been marketing. It's game play. It has and will always be game play. If you'd only fix what's broken, take your players suggestions for improving everything from mining to POS's (a revamp of the POS system into 'mini-stations' with WIS for corps would bring in *way* more players than your new website, Incarna, NeX, Monocles or anything else you have planned). How about NPCs and factional warfare and immersion in the storyline of Eve which the game has completely lost. Doing something with PI that doesn't make people dread its very existence, fix lowsec and nullsec, get rid of the bots, give us a better corporation management (eg roles management) system, make it easier for corporations to move out of empire, etc. etc. *THESE* are the things that will bring players to Eve. Not shiny websites of noobs showing themselves off in the game. Haha... there is so many eve online related images, blogs, stories and videos out on the interwebs now... what makes you think putting the ones you like all in one place is going to make you any more appealing to people who don't already play eve?
Besides, I have Chribba having to write a search site for it anyway ;P
Seriously, CCP... fix the game, improve the game play - build it right and they will come. Keep blowing money on stupid ideas like this instead of investing into the game play of Eve and they will not. It ain't rocket science (yada, yada, yada).
Just my 2 ISK. I'll certainly post some of the aforementioned assault pictures tho and see if they make it in. That is... when you have the site done. A bit early, no? Just prepping us to gather our best? lol
Meh.

Originally by: Sheila Sarani - why no one created warpable bookmark with a little scanning?
The story might be based on a fight that took place before the current scanning mechanics made that a viable tactic. Under the old scanning mechanics, it might have been faster for an interceptor to cover the distance than it would have been to get a bookmark on the fleet.
Originally by: Sheila Sarani - why interceptors wasn't destroyed by zealoths or other hac snipers on approach?
As for this question, there were at least 6 interceptors shown in the clips around 0:20 - 0:30. It is not completely unreasonable to expect that 1 out of the 6 got lucky while the other 5 were wiped out. Again, if this fight was based older game mechanics, it would have been much easier to cover that distance prior to the great speed nerf.
Originally by: Sheila Sarani - why someone took gallente fleet to attack anything? why not amarr/minmatar?
Obviously the video was not made by taking fraps of an actual fight. With any reenactment it is reasonable for the producer to take some artistic liberties to improve clarity. In this case, it appears that the producer decided to clearify which ships belonged to each fleet by using the traditional racial alliances. The friendly fleet is Gallente + Minmatar and the enemy fleet is Amarr + Caldari. If both fleets had contained a realistic mix of ship types, it would be difficult for a viewer to identify which ships belonged to which fleet.
Originally by: Sheila Sarani - why the traping forces didn't put bubles on gallente? - why amarr forces get at warpable range? - why gallente didn't warp out? - why amarr fleet wasn't bubbled? - why amarr fleet didn't warp out?
This could also be attributed to artistic liberties. I did not see any effects other than turrets. To make the scenes less cluttered, the producer might have omited any buble or other tackling/ewar effects. In order to maintain a sense of drama, the produce would not be expected to show the ships that had successfully warped out. The friendly battleships might have been burning to get out of a buble as much as to get out of range. When the fleet warped to the interceptor, many of those ships could have been warping from safe spots. While not shown in the video, that fleet might have included Interdictors and/or HICs.
Originally by: Sheila Sarani I don't know much about pvp, other than what i read in forums so was those really goofs or is it real?
I don't know much about pvp either. These are just some possible explinations that I believe justify some of these discrepencies.
I miss the old trailers, where "All scenes in this trailer were captured from actual gameplay." This would have been the perfect opportunity to return to those roots. Hopefully we some trailers that are more along those lines as part of this marketing campain, either CCP or player generated.

No, no. nonononononono.
Before you do this, concentrate all that web programming effort on improving the Eve website, wiki, and Eve-Gate. Make them all look cleaner, more modern, and closer together. I like the general look of the new Account Manager website, but the main website is very lacking and i think that it is better than even Eve-Gate and the test forums. Fix those first, then go on a mass marketing campaign.

Dear CCP,
I love the new marketing video and the whole idea behind the new site to bring in more players, and thus more money for you guys. I and many other Eve players will participate in this marketing site, but please consider shifting more resources into making these Eve expansions more fleshed out. Give the noobs more than 1 new room every few months to walk around in. Also do the stuff the CSM requested several months back.

Ah the happy sounds of gamers disagreeing...
Why so much hate fellas? I mean sure Incarna was anticlimactic, and there is still problems with balance and lag and all the other things that keep reminding us we're just playing a game (Oh and the AUR-thing, seriously).
But really, its not worth the vitriol is it? CCP is a developer, we are consumers. Frankly we should be happy they give a crap at all. Of course they want to make money, our money. The money we spend so that we can see our characters through the next thirty days of skilling. If you don't like the trade off, then move on.
But we all get connected to characters. Even the ones with numebrs intead of surnames... Or blatant misspellings... The little narratives and stories that build up even just in your head are evidence of that.
So come on. It makes good sense for CCP to use the resource that is our game experience to help sell their product. And its not like we won't get anything out of it, even without any AUR-whatnots. Some publicity here, a bit of good karma there, that sort of thing never goes amiss.
So quite yer belly-aching and give CCP a chance before you get all sarcy, eh?
