Seems unfair, no EVE advertizing here, ever, no boxsets available, and now excluded from competitions.
Other than that, sounds a good idea, I hope it pays off.
Because Australia's contest laws are horrid.
Yeah. Here in Australia we can't do anything without the government wanting to either control us or take our money. Want to drink beer out of a glass or wine out of a bottle after 10pm? Sorry, government says no. Have a plastic cup instead. Want to buy cigarettes? Government says "only in plain white packaging". Want to win some Aurum out of something other than a game of skill, sorry, government says you have to declare it as income... want to breath out? Sorry, government wants $23 for every tonne of CO2 you produce... Australia is so ****ed by the nanny state it's unbelievable. Seriously need an election and a decent party to vote for. If only there was a Goon Party here in Oz. Mittens for PM! lol |

those who complain about no warpable bookmarks being created in this trailer don't understand the basics of filmmaking. it's not interesting to watch. period. some single ship making their way through enemy fleet however, that's a whole another story.
how many of you think Inception was real? or Transformers, Spiderman, etc. None of the big Hollywood moneymakers are based on realistic events of life. approximations at best. and yet hundreds of millions of people pay to watch them.
EVE players pride themselves how intelligent they are, more intelligent than ppl who play other MMOs. and yet you act like complete idiots about some basic things that a 7-year-old can wrap their brain around. which really shows that you just whine because you want to whine, not because you fail to understand. |

I like the "show you the money" bit, since CCP doesn't give Aurum real cash value. Either give us game-time, or send us a check to do your marketing job. |

These comments do make for some pretty depressing reading. Maybe it's because I recognise my own tendency to dismissive cynicism in some of them.
But the odd thing is, if I feel that way about politics, or the media, or whatever else, I just don't feel it about EVE. I play this game because I enjoy it. It's fun. I like the game, the setting, and the presentation. I like CCP's involvement in it, and their engagement with the player base. I like that they involve us in the development of their universe; that we can make a mark.
So I intend to join in with your new site. Call it "doing CCP's marketing for free" if you like, but I don't think that argument really carries much weight in a society where people happily pay designer clothing companies hundreds of pounds/dollars/ISK/whatever just for the privilege of displaying the company's name on their clothes. We all advertise the things we enjoy - music, sports, beer, operating systems, religions - and we don't care that the entities we're marketing benefit from it: that's kind of the point. We want to spread the word about the things we like. And if, in doing that, we can help flesh out the already-impressively-fleshed-out universe of EVE, then so much the better.
Yep: count me in. |

Originally by: Braondra That was painful to watch. Absolutely not what the game is about. Was that a capsuleer? Why would he be nervous when we all know he has another clone and another ship waiting?
Sigh
My subscription still runs out on the 23rd. No changes made.
I guess it's just me then. When I'm in a fleet battle like that my adrenaline spikes and I get nervous anticipating the fight. That's why I love eve. No other game has given me that visceral experience that effects me like that. |

Edited by: Sylthi on 08/07/2011 20:22:49 Ok.... so let me see if I have this straight:
1. CCP Devs MASSIVELY p_iss off much of the Eve community by bringing in previously promised "no plans to go to" MTs and then proceed to call the community "Golden Geese" and "Cash Cows" at the same time. (Many more issues pis_s off many others, just summarizing the things that stuck in MY mind here for expediency.) 2. CCP Devs PANIC at the many players walking out the door because of the rampant, long standing, neglect and abuse. CCP responds, not by actually TALKING to the players, but instead by calling their CSM PR reps to Iceland; thinking that will mean a dam_n to a lot of the players in the process of leaving. 3. CCP Devs pretend to give a half-hearted apology and promise that they will take care of "our game" and not "break it". Promising also, more transparency (SOON(tm)) and a blog talking about "pricing strategy" on the MTs that were previously promised never to be in the game in the first place. 4. Instead of a blog about pricing the community receives a VERY transparent PR-gimick-blog attempting to get the community re-emotionally invested in the game. While at the same time HOPING to succeed in an attempt to get us to forget about CCP's most recent string of neglect, abuses, deceptions, and lies. And, even going so far as offering us a completely non-valued BRIBE if we actually start doing MORE of their work FOR them.
Yeah. I think that about covers where I am at with this.
So, CCP, are you anything BESIDES cheap marketing and PR gimmicks now days? Do you have any actual CONTENT for the paying (now DOUBLE-billed) customers? Nevermind. I know the answer to both. Going back to the parts of the game you haven't broken or completely merchandised...... YET.
Edit: And then within seconds of my post... the pricing blog appears. Someone at CCP listening for once? Nah. Doubt it. |

So now that you're asking people to put work into something that'll improve the community, and help advance/advertise your game, will you be asking 99$ from the people who participate?
I mean, this equates to community fueled websites and tools, yes? |

I think it's important to show case EVE history, so that we don't forget the stupid **** we've fought through since the game began. Aside from Old Youtube joke videos, Goon produced hilarity(jihadswarm, awesome video production, and etc etc), There isn't much recording of the history of the terrible people who play eve. Where can you honestly say we have a good record aside from mittens, of the shadow actions of EVE, like the BoB disbandment, or the implosion of Delve?
A public record would most assuredly be useful to educate noobs, which we need more of them, so we can blow up more ships. |

We became a dictatorship. Now that I think about it, John Howard wasn't all that bad. However, Rudd did give us all free money. Our new Dictator, Ghoulia "The Dyke" Gillard is possibly the worst dictator in the history of dictators. |

Every MMORPG has a story. Many of them try to tell it with a heroic 1st person on rails, with everyone doing the same quest at the same time. EVE is different and this idea proves it. The story of EVE is evolving and guess what? We are it. You can call it marketing if you want, but really it's a great way to get the story out there where people can experience it. The story of EVE is told from many different perspectives and is unfolding in real time. And the more diverse types of people that participate in it, the more interesting it will become. Even more interesting is what EVE is capable of in the future. I wonder if I could write about that? |
