Oh no. A miniscule minority of EVE players are going to receive AUR, which they are free to ignore.
ITT: This is the worst disaster possibly conceivable. I am anger and outrage. Waaaah. Tears and tinfoil. CCP = capitalism like those damn terrorists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111112345 I'm quitting EVE for the 4th time this week. I'm being forced to buy AUR stuff.
Oh yeah, and Lady Derp: 1. 1000AUR is enough for a player to buy boots. Even then, we're near to the second milestone which will introduce even more possibilities without anyone paying a single ISK. 2. If players convert a PLEX to AUR in order to buy something more expensive, then the how does that mean the NeX store a fail? A PLEX was converted, because a player decided to do so. The store served its purpose.
For these two reasons, I hereby award you with the title of "Grand Master of Failderptard". This position is regarded as the most difficult to achieve of all the titles I grant, and you should be honoured to be respected this highly given your post.

I'm amazed to see CCP pulling that one on us tho. CCP: here's free AUR ! Random noob: woot ! wait... i need MOAR to buy that monocle, I can't stay a peasant forever. Gotta convert that PLEX.

Dear Ms Spank,
Thank you for your forum post, we really really do value the feedback you - our valued players - provide to us. Obviously we are a little saddened to hear that you don't want any free Aurum and are shocked and surprised that you don't expect to be popping into the super NeX store any time soon.
Don't forget that (although you can't actually see them at the moment because the door's jammed) lots and lots and lots of your fellow players are getting dressed up right this minute!
Obviously we can't offer the great products we have at such low low prices forever - so yes this really is a limited chance to get some amazing clothes right now! Don't delay!

I dont think that is possible. I've understood that CCP directly gives AUR to wallet of char with most skillpoints.

If you spend it CCP will think they've suceeded in jamming this unwanted crap down our throats.

isnt ccp just crashing the isk to aur return ratio with this give away?
400mil for a plex(example number) = 1200 aur. and you can sell said 1200aur item for 500mil so a small profit.
now its 400 for the plex and you get 1200 aur, but the item is no longer worth 500mil its worth less than the 400mil cost of the plex in the first place as everyone will have 5500 aur..
so unless they introduce something other than man barbi crap to buy with teh aur its just shot the whole nex market in the foot hasnt it?
i like to think that ccp will link dust to aur and dust to sov, thus making it so alliance will actually have to spend plex's to capture and maintain sov.

Can you even use 1000 Aur? I don't think anything costs less than that or even at that level. I haven't looked at the NeX store in awhile. What a waste, it's just a taste to make you buy more :(

No, what I'm afraid of is that you didn't get the big picture sir. I don't care what they use their ISK/PLEX/AUR/SAVINGS for, that's not my point. My point was CCP's bold move and that was sarcasm. Thank you come again.

What does any of that have to do with the Nex store itself ruining eve?
It's a symbol. NeX is a highly visible, in your face statment: Eve is changing. Flying in Space is not top priority. Barbie in Space is now Top Priority. A lot of the features being put into Eve are in Eve as prototypes or as testing for WoD and DUST features.
NeX also represented a threat to Eve. Potential "gold ammo" goes against the core of Eve game play namely skill versus pay to win and creating items out of thin air in an economy centered on player created items/manufacturing.
NeX is also too exclusive, i.e. the micro versus macro-transaction problem. CCP touts Space Barbies and then prices NeX items so that a large number can't play Space Barbie. End result is that CQ is essentially a one person MMO and you can't even afford to play dress-up with your Space Barbie due to NeX prices.
Long story short, for many (bitter) players, the NeX store epitomizes CCP's incompetence, CCP's betrayal of their loyal players, and a demonstration that CCP is no longer dedicated to improving and expanding Eve.
Hence the seemingly irrationally anger that some folks exhibit towards NeX.

and add another sale to CCP's NEX "success story"?
by handing out free AUR CCP makes sure that their :metrics: will show how big a success the NeX is and how much people like to use it...
... which would be no problem if we could rely on CCP not fooling itself - but from what we've seen so far it's much more likely that certain groups in CCP will take these "great" metrics and use them as an argument in favor of allocating more resources to the continued development of the NeX.
edit: also helps to prep the secondary market for NeX items (all the ppl looking to convert their AUR into sth useful, i.e. ISK) which helps to reduce the perception that NeX clothing has to be bought with RL money.
Metrics are only useful so long as they are measuring the thing that you want to be measured. CCP realizes this, so I *HIGHLY* doubt they are incompetent enough to believe that if they trick themselves into believing that the NEX store is successful, that it is true. No, they most likely measure the success of the NEX store by the amount of cold hard cash that it brings in.
This Aurum reward is a marketing gimmick, but it isn't to inflate metrics. It is, instead, intended to act as advertising for the NEX store.
As the Extra Credits episode on micro-transactions pointed out, players are much more likely to use a MT store if they can be convinced to use it once. This is CCP trying to take advantage of this phenomenon by removing one of the main barriers from trying out the MT store the first time - that people don't want to spend RL money on an unknown quantity (or ISK, for that matter).
All this is, is CCP trying to increase demand for the NEX store, without over saturating the supply. They are hoping that once people try out NEX, they will come back again. They are ALSO hoping that the amount of Aurum that they will eventually give out isn't so much that nobody sees a need to return to the NEX store.

And thank you, as well, for failing to understand the entire point behind this thread. Maybe if I put it very bluntly, with as many monosylabic words as possible your brain will be able to grasp the concept.
CCP made the NEX. CCP is working more on the NEX than Flying in Space. A (possibly large) group of people who support CCP do not like this idea. Using freedom of speech, we are saying we do not like this.
Also, the NEX goes against Flying in Space and a (possibly large) group of players do not want anything to do with it. We do not want, through inaction, the acceptance of gifts, or blanket freebies, to support the NEX in any way.
We know we can refrain from spending it. We would just rather not be given it in the first place.

Yes, but... the only thing currently available in the NeX store for 1,000 Aurum is a pair of Men only boots.
I think most folks are aware that most MT based games give out small amounts of MT currency to non-paying players in order to get those players comfortable with the idea of MT purchases.
The problem is that, once again, CCP's application of a normally proven MT strategy appears "incompetent."
Which creates a bit of a dilemma.
Either CCP is stupidly incompetent, which is highly unlikely given that they do have smart people and have eight years of experience with a successful MMO, or CCP isn't interested in running a successful MT store in Eve.
Meaning, the NeX store is actually just an experiment and/or code prototype for CCP to practice with in order to get ready for MTs in DUST and WoD. Which would mean that NeX wasn't designed for Eve players and thus NeX is another non-feature delivered to Eve in Incarna.
CCP can hand out all the free Aurum they want, but until they provide items that appeal to the Flying in Space crowd, the NeX store isn't going to be successful.

*hi 5s the Z man* YO Z, gotta give the homies the impression we go way back ya know. LOL
On the serious side. Why isn't there a way to convert Aur to isk? I love the idea of the Aur as a "Gold Standard" so to speak. I can envision 'gambling halls' in stations requiring AUR to play. Hence the conversion to allow those of us with billions of isk to convert to AUR to gamble away or rake in the killling amounts to allow us to buy our first titan . Do this, and i'll make a new account called "Doc Holliday". P.S. I want to be able to shoot up the saloon

Then you would be able to convert plex to isk without using the market, that would be that same as CCP selling isk directly.
