We may no longer be trying to burn Jita and Amarr down but 3 months after monoclegate the general forums are still awash with rage.
I'm a bit miffed, but not at "The sky is falling" stage....yet. But had a company (any type) with healthy competition (I feel Eve does not have a good competitor) had 3 months of venom on its public pages I feel it would have been damaged more than Eve has at this time. This is temporary CCP, and more luck than skill at this point.
I'm aware CCP will only listen to "what we do" but failed expansions and patches have left me less angry and more.........

It's not really. It's a temporary reprieve. Rats can't leave a sinking ship, but if it gets to port just in time they won't stay on it.

if it wasn't for the fact that 90% of the noise is a bunch of chicken little bull****. then yeah it would be a bad sign. but most of the noise is a small number of very squeaky wheels talking out of their collective ass.

Edited by: Covert Kitty on 02/09/2011 20:03:19 Most of it is deserved. It's proper to be fairly p|ssed off when CCP's priority seems to be spending huge amounts of time developing features that add no gameplay and are designed solely to extract more money from the community. This, in a game that is quite frankly, very unpolished, and has a huge laundry list of things that need to be improved on.
So yes, people are p|ssed when yet another expansion goes by where the fundamentals of the game are ignored for MT cosmetic BS.

Not online, but the X series is everything you could wish. I've just been tinkering with my copy of X3 and that game is more amazing than what I remembered (towing asteroids... that was serious fun!) Same species, different breed. But if CCP hasn't got their homework done by either November or the release of X Rebirth, I will go offline for a change.

If only X3 was a MMO. Kinda get that feel that it should be. I love the game my only problem with it is when i realize there's nobody around me but NPCs and I get sad.

Edited by: Diomedes Calypso on 02/09/2011 20:26:55 Irritation is more like it.
Irritation and frustration.
Also a "missgivings about the future of gaming" (i'd use the word fear yet of course its' not fear like losing a job or having your child kidnapped, or dying to cancer....)
There is a segment of gamers who want something that this game has had that others do not have. The few other games that i've seen trying to go there are in their infancy and if EVE moves away from showing the niche works, its less likely that others will persist with the model or get funding to do so. I've not been impressed too much with those games comittment to sandboxes either.
Eve has retained players at an incredible rate and attracted players in an admirable rate (only eclipsed by maybe 10% of the releases and even there, most with huge huge finacial investments in them)
Instead of remaining a moderately growing cash cow, they're leaping for bigger potential by (what many believe) catering to a less intense, level of player who find the complexity not a feature, but daunting. What many find as a joy to dig for details about on third party sites and love the idea there are wide swaths of the game that they haven't seen after years or play that could be available, a lower level gamer expects to see all content with a limited time investment...
ok.. all stop with all the detailed speculation with each detailed point subject to certain levels of scrutiny about exactly wide-spread any one point is. (and people start looking for black white answers instead of conceding a point is partly true and influential if some people, not all react that way... )
Bottom line is, not only are we possibly faced with a game less interesting because of goals to work not towards making it more enticing to the gamer wanting it more complex
.. but we're also ****ed that a model of finacial success catering to that sort of group is being destroyed, hence less likely to be replicated. That's a meta level but a very important meta level that will keep people complaining instead of moving on, or perhaps out of gaming.

Yes, but you can't have a MMO like X3. There is no way to "joytick fly" a ship in a MMO. The feel of sailing over a big ship on your tiny fighter at a few m/s is something you can't experience online... my, what memories. I was an expert docking my Battleship, what-was-its-name, and aligning at jumpgates with minimal maneuvering... right in the middle like a thread on the needle.

It's like my mother used to say:
"If you don't have anything nice to say about someone on the internet, then that leaves only bad things to say about someone on the internet.
If there aren't any good or bad things to say about someone on the internet, then why are they on the internet in the first place?"

EVE has always had hate threads on the general forum. The issue now is that OP's and supporters get "fame" or attention for making the same screw this game threads. When in all reality it is doing nothing. Also I imagine toasters have gone up in price with recent sales. You know the long corded ones.

It really doesn't matter, because there is new fashion, fast fashion available at CCP's highly acclaimed new NeX store. Discerning capsuleers should buy now so as to show off their sense of style and good taste.

This is a "joystick fly" game. It is not as refined as Eve, but it is a lot of fun. There is a joystick mode. So it is possible. Video: Linkage Game:http://ace.subagames.com/

Question: when are they not? -------- CCP knows better than the players whats good for their game. SOE knew what was best for SWG too. Better than all those players that left too. |

I don't think anyone is scurred of change it's how poorly handled the deployment was, lack of communication and content, deletions, overall being ignored, delayed fixes, and having to deal with melting hardware.
Please don't pretend or act like there isn't something wrong here, because there is..

Yeah it's almost as if not a whole lot of the problems people are annoyed about have been fixed.

That isn't it.
In fact it's the exact opposite. The reason most of us are angry is because things are *not* changing, that bug's, gameplay issues, bad interfaces and design that have been around for years are ignored. That feature wishlists, polish, and redesigning parts of the game are bypassed in favor of exploitative crap like the NeX.
I love positive change, and applaud it every time it comes. Getting rid of learning skills was great, Apocrypha was great, redoing the browser, mail, and contract windows were all great changes, as was incursions.
However there is also "change" that just obviously harms the game.

GD might well be full of hate, but full is a relative term.
A thimble can be full of whiskey, but it won't get you drunk.
GD feels like it is missing about half it's normal traffic. Dodixie doesn't have 24/7 jerks outside m20, you can even launch from Jita and not get locked. People are missing in game, people are missing on the forum, way more than the PCU indicates. |
