Can-flipping was the best way to get 1v1 pvp imo simply because it created something to fight over, and as you could be threatening hours of work, it was arguably a more effective motivator than any failroam through low and null ("nope, do not engage, they have 2 more members, stay at the POS while I call in ten more battleships and ECM").
And not every miner out there is defenseless, even in a barge like this one..
Sigh, we've lost so much. |

I, for one, used to be heavily in to can flipping and baiting competing can flippers. I also greatly enjoyed hunting missioners in small ships - so this expansion hits my personal playstyle right where it hurts. In response I moved to low sec. But the sec loss/grind there is annoying. I tried the null thing and its blob/bubble play is not for me. So while I expect I will continue playing eve, I anticipate lowering my game time in favor of other games (XCOM). So what about you guys out there?

I take it you've never actually flipped a can, huh? Here is what would happen if someone in a system I was in got suspect flagged by doing normal canflipping (taking a can from a miner and dumping it back out) under crimewatch 2. Someone else from my corp would decloak in their sensor boosting stealth bomber and point them then I'd warp in from a pounce in my tornado and alpha them. You see the difference between that and being able to identify who might actually come and shoot you based on their corp membership?
I flipped literally hundreds (if not thousands) of cans. The problem with can flipping has always been getting people to fight. If your corp mate did that i would be absolutely delighted as it would be a dead cert bomber kill and possibly even an escalated fight with a tornado for afters. Hell if you killed me and looted my can one of my mains might actually get to play. |

Really? CCP did not say that they expected the new aggro changes to eliminate folk from using sbs and other small ships from killing missioners? And ccp didnt say that they expect the default interlocks to end can flipping? Oh and the changes to aggro acquisition for haulers doesnt make ganking for profit of questionable viability? I counter your accusation of troll with my own accusation of troll on you - you troll statement is really a -10/10 you sir are a terrible troll.

I dont know why people equate elite pvp with 1v1. This is not a twitch game. Its rock, paper, scissors with a shinny gloss. 1v1 is boring and mostly predictable. IMO true elite pvp is guessing what your opponent will be bringing to the fight and out thinking him so that he has absolutely no chance of success. Also I want to hear the lamination of their women. |

Erm you have always been able to do something about that, crimewatch will make precisely no difference other than the repper will also now be able to shoot you first. Actually, before this the remote repper had no aggression timer for his repping another player and could dock/jump at any point, effectively making him immune to effective counter attack. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Meh, station games. From him saying "come help them" i figured we were talking off station cos face it a 1v1 at a station is always fail. You could still always do something about it though, even if you couldn't actually kill them (jamming them is good, but they tend to have extra eccm in station). Even now you almost certainly wont be able to kill them.

People always say this. But in my opinion eve is just a game. Either it is fun or it isnt. If it isnt fun anymore because of some change that the dev's make - why should I adapt? I should compromise to keep playing a game that isnt fun just to help the iclandic economy? F-that! Let them fish for a living. |

I like adapting, it adds challenge. If the game stayed the same forever it would be increasingly boring and not fun anymore. I like new things and I like change. For years peopel have been telling miners and so on to adapt, now it is reversed that is all. No im not a miner either I ceo a pvp corp. Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing. |

well you could always play a different game, if somebody takes something that they own, and modify it how they want...and you don't like it anymore, why would you stay. |

That's right we're going to bring even more neutral guardians and hug the station even harder, because that's how you mitigate the risk of potentially being shot at by anybody in system. And some other stuff that I'm not going to disclose, some of it actually involving what you do with the guardians, but mostly the first part. Fights go from being inside mission pockets and asteroid belts and involving single individuals versus single individuals or small groups from the same corporation to being big old clusterfucks outside the station.

Honestly, there was nothing better in eve then baiting can flippers - the tears of the can flippers were the best tears. It is just sad when ccp decides its time to empty sand out of the box.

What I see CCP doing for the game with these changes is basicly two things. First to make the mechanics easier to understand and secondly fixing the player moderated sandbox. The second aspect is more interesting and important in my oppinion. The first is just fixing old code, patching abuses and creating a foundation for the second part.
Currently the criminal aspects and consequenses of EVE are actually quite limited. They're predictable to the point, that we have forum arguments about do they contain any risk at all, since there is so little practical chance of anything unexpected happening. Whether you steal or gank it almost never leads to anything besides the immediate and predictable, but CCP clearly planned differently. There are killrights and a bounty system already in the game, but neither of them do what they are supposed to do.
Bounties are just broken. The conditions how killrights are created mean they aren't created often enough and because they are non-transferrable, they are not really utilized. EVE is all about player stories, but I don't recall hearing a single killright/bounty hunting story during my years here. It's pathetic, that in a game where players are notorious for adapting and exploiting game mechanics for personal gain, those two mechanics haven't managed to produce anything worth mentioning in all the years they've been in the game.
With the changes this winter CCP is deepening the sandbox and the criminal aspects of the game. It isn't just an A->B affair anymore, but will involve a lot more people and be more unpredictable. This will also open loads of new opportunities for player interaction and the stories EVE is known for. We might finally get a real bounty hunting profession and allow third parties to get involved in conflicts between criminals and their victims. All this makes for a better and more involved sandbox and all it costs is having to listen to the pitiful lamentation of gankbears. Totally worth it in my book. |

I apologize for going off topic, just making a point. As far as can tipping (country in me, reminds me of cow tipping. it's about the same) goes, never done it myself but I have been interested in it. Read up on it, etc...
Sounds like the patch is a job for multiboxing, not sure on the details but I'm sure someone familiar with it can find a way around it with boxing and constantly terminating and creating alts.
You could team up with a partner and have trash alts on the side that actually do the tipping and dump another can. Once that's done, that alt can be deleted upon next login. If the miner goes for the bait and tips that can, your partner can come in for some 1v1. Not sure how this would actually work for I have not tested it and don't can tip myself. I'm sure someone would be willing to test it.
Sure, go ahead and bash a newb for thinking and trying to come up with ideas. I dont hear the vets doing much thinking. Stick around. I'm full of bad ideas. ~Isaac Clarke |
