Well being its Easter Weekend and a time many new people may try eve out, the latest server outages must be very embarrasing. Why does it always happen during public holidays in a big way. Surely CCP would have extra cover on at specific times when new people may be trying eve out. Or have all the staff taken time off to in which case thats probably a bad management decision.
CCP next time there is a public holiday when new people are possibly going to try eve dont drop the ball like you have this time. New people wont be impressed.

Originally by: Agama Well. I got a 14 trial and got 5 other mates into this game. Now here we are at easter when everyone has some time off and for a second day the servers are constantly crashing. At this point I am really disappointed in the stability of this game. The servers are down for hours on end, the client crashes at random times.
Is this always the case for this game or what (I only have the last week to go by). The servers go down every night to make sure they run sweet yet they seem to be down a fair bit. If that is the case I don't think I will get a subscription and I can bet my other mates won't either. Its a shame really.
The game is really good except for stability issues. Don't think I will be parting with $20/month for downed servers all the time.
It's pretty unusual. This is the worst it's been since the Castor release in late 2003.
Some official info and recognition of that fact (not ISD) would be good. Where's Kieron when you need him? Isn't he supposed to be the customer service manager? A lot of customers are needing serviced with some concrete info right now.
Some a quick bit of background. I work at the largest Alumina Refinery in the world (QAL in Australia) doing support and am oncall 2 out of every 6 weeks. I can handle downtime and I am glad it is not the case all the time (thanks for the info guys), but what is really killing me is the lack of news on the situation either on the front of the website or any official response in the forums.
Anything official would be great instead of a bunch of seething gamers getting annoyed. Please Devs or whoever, post an update or heck admit something is wrong and put some facts out there on the front of the site. Heck even a section on this site about outages would be great.
Everytime we loose something in our network even for a minute (exchange, internet, a service of anykind) we have to do a full disclosure as a major incident. Why cant these guys do that. Would be great for PR..... at least everything is in the open then. Just a few thoughts. 'Death solves all problems- no man, no problem' J.V. Stalin, 1918 |

The game servers are in Docklands, London. There is rarely any significant snow in London even during the winter and we're now well into spring
Thing is the servers are very probably not in docklands most gateway servers stay away from docklands due to BT's main node Level 3 has a Main gateway in northern london about 15 miles from docklands

Same here. I had a choice of just under an hour or just over a day. Glad I chose the latter although losing a couple of hours training time isn't the end of the world. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Oh and I don't understand the multiple "reboots"
If the first one didn't work then the successive won't either.
Keep it unavailable if it helps keep it up later.

Well at least its Bristish Summer time, just like Eve, dark and grey!!!
Happy Easter me fellow eve'ers.

Yes, they are down, servers tried to auto-reboot once or twice now and failed. It would appear that way in any case, as it went out, then the proxy went out, then it came back and we got a countdown to launch after which it promptly failed. Later it crashed out again during the countdown to launch. Now it is trying again, we will see if it works.
...
Maybe its time for CCP to make this a multiple shard game, maybe divide it up into four groups of regions (North - South - East - West). Just make you auto log off/on to the various shard as you travel between systems.
Would also make instantaneous communication acroos all space, and seeing who is only EVERYWHERE on the map at once a thing of the past. Which is something some people have asked for, would cetainly make things more realistic, and tactically interesting.

You do relaise, that assuming it reboots, with the amount of people that will probably simultaneously try and log on it will just crash again

DOUBLE POST AS ASKED TO BY THE FORUM MOD
A simple message.
Let us know whats happening, when it may happen.
We then know / believe something is being done.
When we get no info we speculate, we enquire and we post.
Forget the next patch and work on information channels for time such as these.
Lack of info annoys people.
I dont normally complain ...but felt this needed saying.
And if you dont want feedback shut the forums off.
Thanks.

Roflao, this thread has got more comments than Jamie Olivers School Dinners petition... that says something abotu the servers atm for sure. Does anyone know why this is happening now? Last time it was this bad (server upgrade) at least CCP kept us informed on a regular basis.
C'mon CCP, help us to stay on your side here and keep us in the loop. Or do I have to search through the last 61 pages to find out?

This is like roadworks over the easterweekend - biggest amount of inconvenience when the most traffic is present.
Lets hope CCP haven't been caught in a traffic jam in the rush back to sort the servers.

Originally by: Andrue Last time it was this bad (when was that I wonder?) they eventually credited everyone with a day. Given the unfortunate timing that might happen again but I think the last time the servers were this bad was when they upgraded the disk arrays and the new ones kept falling over.
Oh how we laughed back then
I remember that, wasn't it around the time of the last server upgrades? - As I recall it was the sheer number of users attempting to log on when starting up hit 0, which caused the server to crash. Eventually they staggered it so only so many people could log on per minute.
This down time isn't bothering me, an offical post would be nice, but I suspect they are away on their easter break.

I fully trust that CCP are doing everything in their powers to resolve the issue.
And FYI, the last time something like this happened CCP gave everyone a free day on their accounts.
I do think they are doing all in their power also, but that doesn't help us. Apparantly their power isn't good enough.
And for second comment. "1 free day of the subscription"!!!! Baaaah. I laugh at the attempt to please players. We want a running game, not a game where we get 1 free day of subscription.
IMHO: Stop all plans on the new features in the new patch and focus on getting this one running. I've seen all too many games/sw sorting a few bugs and adding a bunch of new ones. Does "Bill Gates" ring any bells. Just because everyone else is adding new bugs doesn't mean CCP have to do it. Get a grip.

For the second Sunday in a row more than 12.000 EVE players join together at the same time in the same unsharded, persistent, virtual world. Creating yet again the biggest shared online community in history. Thanks to all participating for making this possible.
Will it be a new article like : 27.3.2005 What a way to kick of the player ?
For the 3rd day in a row, server are down ... blablabla ... giving the community the feeling that the game is still in beta stage and the will to leave the game ... blablabla ... thx for making this possible.
