As title. I'm noticing a lot of people having problems with AFK cloaking, but it seems a bit silly to me to be scared of a ship that is both AFK and that takes serious penalties for equipping a cloak (or is a Recon, so can't gank well).
So... what have AFK cloakers done to you, and why is that a problem that has to be fixed with mechanic/balance changes? (And what changes?) Rifterlings - small gang frigate PvP - low/nullsec operations, newbie-friendly, free ship program; Join today! www.rifterlings.com

Doubt that there are "a lot". Many ppl in forums rage about cloaking. Some rage about others being afk. A few rage about both in combination. Overall there are thousands of players in EvE, afk haters & cloaking haters are like... 20? Maybe 50?

AFK cloaking interferes with botters in nullsec, as well as AFK/carebears in nullsec. The fact that those groups of people complain about AFK cloaking is very strong proof that AFK cloaking is a good thing!

I have never been killed by someone who came out of afk cloaked in our system. I have never even been in a system where one has killed someone. I have killed 2 in my time in nullsec.
I can't fathom why anyone thinks they're a problem. If they end up in your system, just move next door. If your too scared to move from one system to another then you shouldn't be out in nullsec. If they follow you into the new system you know they're not afk. In which case, chase them. |

You noticed that, eh? Must have been the bazillion other threads about this topic.
Anyway, it doesn't matter how much a cloak gimps your fit, all it need for ganking in null is a cyno beacon. Operation WRITE DOWN ALL THE THINGS!!!-á Check out the list at http://bit.ly/wdatt

So... what I'm gathering is that, since cynos are the problem with AFK cloaking, then the problem rests with the strength and proliferation of capital/supercapital ships, not with the act of AFK cloaking itself.

I seem to remember reading in another thread a while back that being AFK was a valid form of game play.
Seems to me that playing the game would require being at the keyboard or cloaked if you don't want to be an overly tempting target.
The game is the same for everyone. However, not everyone plays the same. Some are sheep while others are wolves.

Correct?
If I am ratting my Archon I do not care about a single enemy in system. If that enemy can drop 3 Nyx's on my Archon then he becomes a problem. Does he or does he not have a cyno? Is he a covert cyno with a blops gang? I do not know... best to pos up aaaaaaaaaaahh! |

AFK cloaking isn't play. I don't think even James thinks every body needs to sign out of new eden when ever not at the keyboard. |

AFK Cloaking is just a lame tactic. It's boring, predictable and a bit crap. It's a mechanic that shouldn't really exist.
On the other hand you can always just all move system, if the afk cloaker realises and follows you then all you need to do is move again then wait to kill him. Most the time they wont even realise for hours, in which case you probably wont even know they move.
So not matter how lame the tactic is I've never stopped ratting due to AFK cloakers because I move, so I'm not fussed about seeing it as a top priority. |
