Awesome. This is a huge step in the right direction. Thank you for soul searching Hilmar, I think I speak for everybody here when I say that it really means a lot to us all.

Hello everyone,
Here's my storyline...
I'm a old player that was there in the ages of the begining... times where we were glad to have a Battleship .... yes mates...
I left the game for about 4 year... from 2006 to 2010... while you guys were arguying about everything that CCP was trying to make and deliver.. i was "offline"....
My return last year.... was a chock...
I was chocked of how people were not playing but abusing the game systems... all for what ??
M. Hilmar, being my self a owner of cie... i think it is IMPOSSIBLE to stay always on the good path... you have to go offroad to know where route is.
For me.. i will not LEAVE EVE, not after i've seen how much this game has evolved compare to others MMO.
Today i'm just trying to catch up with all that happend since then.
I know old players.. and they still like the game for what it is...
I think EVE is one of the most "evolving" MMO that i've played so far... and i can tell you i've played a bunch of them.
SO old players, new players... get your computer tuned up.. and gear up for the next generation that CCP is going to deliver to US

Malrock wrote:As a long standing client, who has been with this software product since 2004 i have also recived a verry personal insult - one of my dearest friends who was a director in our corporation got hacked, hes account was stolen, through that all the assets we collected for years got stolen. We reported it, luckely in time (unlock votes on bpo's were still running) and averted fatal damage, then, since no valid game mechanics nor player mistakes were involved in the hack we were expecting a support from CCP in restoring mentioned items - what we got was minor restoration of corporate wallets and some throwdown money + lot of excuses how nothing can be done since it is our fault. A personal letter was written to you and sent by my dearest friend who was the victim of the hack, you my dear sir never had the care to even let the secretary to replay to that letter, not to mention yourself - a grave dissapointment that caused cancellation of several accounts, loss of all respect and interest in this product. You could of easely restored the items from backup or just thrown us a bone and just wired us some reasonable amount of isk that we could of used to recover, but we did recive a clear sign on CCP attitude toward a client - "hey bad things happen, it is your recponcibility and your fault". For a software product that focuses on "real value" of a loss this is a bad attitude for external attack, if it was corp theft - so be it, i would accept it as valid point and loss, but external hack has nothing valid about it. What usually happens on a hacked account is:
Hacker tries to sell everything he can get his hands on asap at whatever price possible, then transfers the ISK to other characters (to be ultimately used in RMT); CCP recovers whatever ISK possible and wires it back to you; you are angry because you got much less than you think your items were worth.
Maybe not the best solution from your POV but the only reasonable approach (that I am aware of).
Consider that the hacker may have reprocessed ships/modules, sold the minerals on the market, the new owner may have hauled them to a trade hub and sold them to an industrialist, the industrialist used them to build ships, the ships got blown up into salvage and insurance payments, ...
How deep would you want CCP to revert these transactions? What do you think would the uncertainty created through such reversals do to commerce inside EVE ("Somebody just sold me some faction items really cheap... now I'll have to wait a few weeks to be sure that CCP won't revert this transaction because it might have been caused by some hacker"?)
The only "items" for which CCP reverts transactions are characters and even then it is a considerable nuisance and uncertainty for everyone involved (though luckily firesales of "stolen" characters are often easy to spot and avoid).
The alternative would be to just spawn new items to replace your loss, effectively duplicating your friend's inventory. This would break the sandbox and would be heavily exploitable (as would be spawning some ISK as extra compensation for you). After all it is really easy to "hack" your own account to duplicate any rare items you might have on it. "Oh my account was hacked and my character's Opux Luxury Yacht was firesold by the ebil hacker to some alt of my best friend - now CCP will spawn a new Yacht to replace my loss and everybody is really happy \o/"
If you have any proposal how to handle such situations that is better than CCP's current way of doing things and not heavily exploitable or sandbox-breaking I would honestly like to hear about it. I have seen your complaint quite a few times during my time in EVE but I have never seen a satisfying solution that would work... |

I never expected a message like this. It's the best thing I've read from CCP in a long time. If this new direction is real, Eve is back on the 'right' path (or at least the path that we selfish customers want).
Bravo. |

All I have to say is that talk is cheap and that there are a lot of players who will be basing their decision to continue to subscribe to Eve Online or not based on this next expansion so it would be in CCP's best interest to make sure that it is thoroughly tested, polished and makes real improvements to how the game is played. |

Props to Hilmar admitting they was wrong .
However i have seen statements like this b4 in other mmo's Both free to play and paid .
QUOTE "We also didnGÇÖt do enough to assure you that this wasnGÇÖt the beginning of a GÇ£pay to winGÇ¥ scenario in EVE. Let me be blunt: Unless the MMO business changes radically, our virtual goods strategy for EVE Online will remain limited in scope and focus on vanity items, or as we said after the CSM visit this summer: The investment of money in EVE should not give you an unfair advantage over the investment of time. " /QUOTE
This one little paragraph has me a bit worried . This is the reason i stopped playing a lot of mmos in the past . They did bring in a pay to win scenario and it ruined the game for the veterans like myself . I am not trying to blast the letter in any way . I am just stating my concerns on the "pay to win " scenario . It just seems to me that the pay to win situations is still on the cards and that worries me .
Please Hilmar and the rest of CCP Never under any circunstances bring PAY TO WIN into EVE . You will kill your own creation . |

"Once Incarna hits its stride, EVE will be more personal, and thus more accessible to general audiences. Visual self-expression in a virtual setting is a core psychological component of gaming; most people need to see their avatars, or something vaguely humanoid, or else they donGÇÖt connect with the game. We were behind the curve and it needs to be addressed for the sake of EVEGÇÖs longevity."

Hilmar, it's said that it takes a strong man to admit he's wrong.
I look forward to CCP's future endeavors, and to an improved and refocused EVE Online.
I hope any NASA techs that read this will forgive me for borrowing a phrase from your lexicon (....(then again, given that EVE is a space game, it's strangely appropriate) and possibly using it incorrectly:

Hilmar thanks for this, its nice to know that CCP is actually listening. After Incarna I haven't been so sure. However this definitely needed to be said months ago. This feels like the apology for Fearless that we never quite got, as a company CCP always needs to be able treat its customers as the most important part of the game. Fearless felt like a spit in the face to that, while the emergency meeting was all well and good there was never an apology, CCP only admitted there had been a mistake, thanks for owning up to it. I'm too young a player to be feeling tired of how CCP operates. |

I'm truly impressed with this statement. Yes, stating these facts is long overdue, but still, its not easy to do this as a CEO who had the luxury to lead EVE to new hights over 7 years thinking he is doing it right.
Often have we heard that management is becoming a PROBLEM at CCP, not what it should be: a way to make things happen.
I really hope, for the sake of the game, that this will change again.
And always remember: customers are not your ENEMY...neither are your employees who voice concern about things. |

Adding my kudos and thanks--it takes courage to admit one's mistakes.
Like many others, I'll be watching to see what happens. I came within a hair of quitting for good when Incarna and CQ were launched, and a game that had been running fine on my 64-but quad core with bells and whistles became seriously and unpredictably unstable until I disabled CQ
I have just two recommendations:
1. STABILITY, rock-solid across platforms, is infinitely more important than skin texture and character hair rendering
2. COMPLEXITY: don't dumb the game down, just make the sure the help and tutorials are inplace
Thanks for listening |
