Well well, a voice from the top....
Its good to see that we see post back from the old staff as well as the new staff, and that we can actually READ what ur saying. Thanks for taking the time to write to your customers, friends, or player-base, i think were the lot...
There are however some things you probebly need for your old playerbase to kepe the game interesting, and that is truly new content. The game is not boring, but the lack of the ability to grow further once youve trained everything becomes very annoying.
The first 3 years in EVE you can live without cross training and still experiencing something new like every month in the game, however, this is now running to a stall, and that definetly would be nice to see change.
I hope that ccp can find a way to make the game interesting, and the idea to the older players that there are new things for us as well, would be great.... |

Good dev blog - it took balls to publicaly admit to having screwed up so badly. If you guys make good on the promises I think you will have a happy plyerbase again, but if this turns out to be another concilliatory post to shut us up for 6 months you'll pretty much kill any trust the community will have - not to mention subs..... |

SerialTurd wrote:Good blog. Certainly a good step in the right direction. I must admit, this made me nervous: Quote:Let me be blunt: Unless the MMO business changes radically, our virtual goods strategy for EVE Online will remain limited in scope and focus on vanity items, or as we said after the CSM visit this summer: The investment of money in EVE should not give you an unfair advantage over the investment of time. To me that says if the entire industry moves in the pay to win format, so will we. That scares me. Very true. I hope the people making decisions at CCP see this post.
Eve has a lot more older players than the other games in the MMO business. People with a steady incoming. People that don't mind paying a monthly fee for quality.
Don't underestimate that, CCP. |

Very good to see the big brash viking eat some crow. about time he did too.
I hope this doesnt mean he's cut off his gonads though. The gutsiness of the CCP leadership are part of what made eve so great. Lesser men would have given in to the screaming voices of the downtrodden in eve long before. The often horrible harsness is one of the things that make eve special, and it takes huge copper ones to persist with that vision. |

Andreus Ixiris wrote:Dear Hilmar,
Having a lot of experience with humbling situations in my life, I've got to say before I say anything else that I respect the courage, honour and humility it must have taken for you to write this apology. To err is commonplace, but to apologise for it is a sadly rare sign of human virtue in this day and age. It is redundant to say that my faith in CCP is no longer unshakeable, but your apology is something I wouldn't expect from the CEO of bigger games companies like Activision, EA, Sony Online or Blizzard. Admitting fault and apologising for it is a good thing.
I know you're a CEO, and you're talking to customers in the manner of a CEO, but you're actually talking to us - again, not something I'd expect from more mainstream games companies. You have not fully restored my faith in CCP - as you have said, I'll be watching your actions more than your words. With the utmost respect, CCP has a history of apologising for things, fixing minor issues and calling it a day. For this to be a true turning point, CCP must truly change within and without - if you truly wish to convince us that CCP can deliver on the promise of EVE Online, you must commit to it one hundred and ten percent.
We need to see the radical changes we've been promised - regular iteration on older content, player issues addressed in weeks rather than months, constant interaction and dialogue with the playerbase. Reform and revitalise. Listen to player input at every turn. Test every feature you want to roll out on Singularity weeks in advance and listen to the testers.
Every time I try to leave this game, it pulls me back in somehow. I have never given up on the dream of EVE Online. I have never given up on the endless promise of tomorrow and the grand adventure of the far reaches of space.
I'm going to give you my cautious trust, CCP, one last time. Take me places I've never seen before and show me a world where impossible is a dirty word.

Two things I am hanging on:
Quote:We all know that much quoted phrase, GÇ£ItGÇÖs not what you say, itGÇÖs what you do,GÇ¥ that will make the difference here. From now on, CCP will focus on doing what we say and saying what we do. That is the path to restoring trust and moving forward.
and
Quote:What I can say for now is that weGÇÖve taken action to ensure these mistakes are never repeated.
You've taken the step of admitting the problem; you've sought help for it; and you've set forth courses of action to correct it. If you follow that prescription, success and a happy/healthy player base will as well. I applaud the steps taken so far, and will watch with keen interest on the rest. Thank you for bringing this to us, and fortune favor you in doing as you say! |

We don't care about incarna! or avatars, or walking in stations, or barby dolls in space, or vampires, or even dusk 1111002348. We play this game because we like spaceships. Work on spaceships and we'll be happy. Add tech III frigates, spice up the PvP world, Fix bugs, make mission running and mining fun (not just replace them with incursions), polish the UI and make it WAAAAAAY more user friendly. You have to stop ignoring the fans that will actually stay after world of star wars comes out. So far all incarna has done is beak the game even more (read incursions) and added absolutely no valuable content for the players that really play this game for the sand box factor (read pvpers, manufacturers, traders). Players looking for easy isk (mission runners, mission runner/mining bots, incursion...ers?) want to play WoW in space. |

Good blog. Sometimes you need to go back and find the source of the problem, after all, a city of dreams is made in heaven..... but this is what happens when the lights go out.
It's still your train set so don't let the idiots tell you otherwise (i think i will refrain from mentioning who they are, but they are at the beginning at the thread claiming they did everyone a favour). your respect is meaningless, and i only represent my constituents - not crybabies with entitlement complexes

It takes balls to stand up in public and admit that you've messed up.
It takes more act on those mistakes.
But it really takes serious cake to wait until you actually had anything better to say than just "sorry".
Despite being hammered by people to publish what your reactions.
And thanks also to the CSM, for keeping the pressure up, taking their share of the heat, but staying on the job.

Many of us have been here as long or almost as long as EVE has been here. While I to am encouraged by the message, I remain cautiously optimistic.
What I take from this are some lines in the sand that we can measure against. We have a commitment on additional Dev Blogs as well as a outline for goals they will try to meet in the winter 2011 expansion.
EVE's pilots want to support CCP. We want to LOVE the game. Follow through, set realistic goals, meet your obligations.
Oh and for the love of all that is holy PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dedicate more resources to "the little things". There are so many daily paper cut issues / bugs in eve that at the end of a day of playing many of us are hemorrhaging. Most of these issues have been around for YEARS.

It does read a lot like the concerns voiced by CSM5 over a year ago (and obviously also by CSM6 more recently), but better late than never :)

Looking forward to the follow on where you detail how you're going to commit to the new path. Please believe that we still wish you every success, and that all we've ever wanted was to sincerely help you make EVE the flagship of the entire MMO community. As I still believe it should be.
As I still believe it can be.
You said you were going to watch what we did. I know what you were thinking when you wrote those words, but let me recast them for you in another way. EVE is a sandbox, In the MMO world, EVE should stand for community, for partnership between players and developers, for continual evolution, for the greatest social experiment in gaming history.
Give us the opportunity to work with you, give us the tools to reshape this gorgeous, vicious, intriguing, unparalleled universe and then, by God, watch what we do with them.
Don't let us down and we won't let you down.
Deal? This bears repeating. Also, thanks for the words Hilmar, they actually mean a lot. |
