Barges need a substantial armor/structure boost or much higher resistances to prevent this.
It is not like they have the capacitor whilst mining to tank anyway.
Umm...perhaps this indicates that CCP never intended barges to be mining without an escort?
This is all the price of mining in empire. Adapt or die.
What's the point of having an escort if the escort cannot fire in Empire, atleast you had to be told that...
Now add 1+1 and make 2. If the ships require an escort to survive, and an escort is useless in anything above 0.4, where do you think the barges are intended to be used??
It's Exodus-lution, baby. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

You sir, are an idiot, for reasons that are unexplainable to you, as you have a tech II ignorance booster mounted.

Thats a great way to get your point across.

Ya'll pro kessy bomber types sure do talk loud...kinda reminds me of those rednecks with the BIG truck and tires. Yep bigger the truck smaller the peen says the lady folk. In other words I think ya maybe over compensating a tad here. Just a bit. Why don't ya just say you're bored and want to exploit the situation until its fixed. Pony up. Don't rationalize with long winded elitist judgments of high sec players that enjoy the game at safer sec. To be honest it's their loss you know not living a bit more on the edge.
My thoughts on this is that Pirates ( real pirates the real nasty ones ) imo don't have an easy life really. They lose ships and those don't grow on trees. They're right back at ya pretty quick no holds barred. No quarter given and none expected least not from me.
Now this here kessy bombing now this isn't piracy in that sense. It's griefing. I don't cotton to that and I'm pretty sure EVE devs don't.. albeit I have never been ganked I reckon if EVE devs put those ice fields in high sec space well..need to leavem alone. If barges were not mean't for high sec then why have ice fields there?
Mining in general in high sec is pretty darn pathetic now days. Hell its harder to find 3 Pyrox mines in 1 field bigger than a walnut than soloing a Apoc in a Velator.
Now you miner folks just buck up for a spell and don't let these loud pesky griefers bother you.. ( yeah you a griefer you aint a pirate ). You buck up and wait a bit the Devs will move on this. The sheer risk/cost ratio just isn't there and it is griefing. You can blather all night bout how old school miners shouldn't be there but it don't work..the math just isn't there.
By sheer defintion in the EVE strata piracy is not for the meek for the risks are high. There is little to know risk at'all isk wise and I sure can't think of any Pirate situation that has no risk.. kessy bombing is weak and your a weak griefer ifn you doing it. Call a spade a spade I say.
buncha welps the lot of ya

I'm amazed this silliness ran for this many pages, since the accurate answer to the post, opinions aside, was stated on the first page.
Suicide ships are legal, and always will be.
Alt recycling is an exploit, and bannable.
So sure, ppl can do their suicide kestrel alts. But track who they are, and if they start disappearing as their sec gets low, you petition them.
BW
PS. Barges could use more hitpoints and more cap, not just for this issue but as regards NPCs as well. Especially the cap. For the amount of material it costs to make a Covetor it should be a little sturdier and be able to run a decent shield booster or armor rep for a few cycles before crapping out.

Here's a crazy thought:
Make Barges have enormous cargo holds that can only carry ore or ice. Make it to where they cannot hold commodities nor minerals. They also need a bit more armor. Industrials have no business out in the roid belts anyhow. Or make an industrial specifically designed to service ore hauling groups.
The other problem of blowupiness is solved by intelligent behavior on the part of miners, and IP banning by the Londoners solves the recycling problem.

Im rather new to the game but my biggist problem with is so far is how they handle the alt system. I played another game where alts where allowed. If killed the game for me. The guy who attacked u was always some noobet char with unlimited gold. Theres really not alot of reason y u need alts. Except to let poeple do stuff there two afraid of to with there mains.
Increase recyle time alot for anyone but recently created noobs. There the ones who really have a reason to have all 3 alts in use to test what they want to do in the game. And poeple who create trial acounts that always seem to not sign up and do alot of sucside alting should prolly be looked into so that problem doesnt happen.
And to someone who says use escorts or not go afk. Well escorts are pointless in anywhere but below .4space and even with escorts in a barge your still an easy target with so little tanking ability. Not to mention that will seruisly cut into profit if not all the way into it. If they met barges to leave high sec space im sure there wouldnt be so many ice belts around in empire like other rare minerals.
And not going afk while ice mining is asking to go insane what are u supposed to do for 7minutes? Poeple who say thats just being impratical ------------------------------------------- Aye Spellcheck is beyond me along with propper grammer. |

Frequently. In 0.0. Solo. In an Osprey Ninja style. Sometimes I use an Apoc, but I honestly get bored using that and with Caldari cruiser at level 5 I don't loose that much ore.

Hmmm .... yes insults instead of constructive argument. I can see your point. Is it our fault you CHOOSE to mine a mineral that has long cycle time and that you do not have the patience or attention span to do it?

In Empire your are not going to be super mega-alert when it takes 15 freakin minutes to go through one cycle, you are going to be checking markets, alt-tabbing and reading threads, etc.
Empire is not safe. Deal with it.

Get off your ignorant high-horse about setting up this that
Ahh yes the insult argument again ... yes i still see your point Well, as I can mine in 0.0 in an Osprey and get my Mammoth in to retrieve my ores next to a 3 BS spawn and accompanying elite scrammbling frigs (not Kestrels!) AND get out alive I must be ignorant.
Originally by: Galeo some jerk-off wants to get his rocks off suiciding an alt?
This IS a valid tactic. Recycling alts is NOT.

Man, get a clue moronà
I will try too. However, if in the meantime you would like to know:
a - how to ninja mine b - use your threat scanner c - pilot a ship and point towards a station/warp-out point d - learn how to setup a tank (even limited form) e - learn how to setup traps with corp mates f - extend your attention span (this will be diet related, no more Mc Donalds now ) g - learn what other ores there are in empire h - put together a constructive argument i - extend your dictionary so that you do not need to insult people j - make friends and influence people in the correct manner
then please feel free to respond.
Otherwies, have a nice day! Darwin 4tw

hehehe ... a monkey maybe?
Actually, i think you point out the one single use for alts that does not try to get round some sort of game mechanic. Loot mules. Fair point.

How about you guys go to 0.0 and mine there??? If a suidial Kessi warps in your escort can destroy it. Easy, isnŠt it? Ah...now i see...you dont want the rISK, you want ISK for free. You want it easy, you want Sim City Online. Go play Sim City offline and donŠt hang arround in a PVP-game.

I no longer ice mine into cans due to the number of ore thieves, its not worth the hassel. The popping in and out of the belt on insta's loose you 1/3rd yeald, but limits the amount of time I am a sitting duck.
Work around the problems, you want it safe then take up dominoes

Only way to really do it is if a player participates in PvP, they cannot recycle for 7 days after the last battle.

make neg sec standings linked to the character slot of an account. So if you recycle a -10 character you'll create a new -10 standing character.
This will fix 100% of alt recycling intended for high sec griefing while not affecting normal alt use.
