Heyyyyyy guys and gals,
Got a question, I bought a BPC of these with ohh say about 1500 runs on them. Problem is, after making about 500 of them, I realized that I cannot load them into my missle launches because none of them say that they can load mines. My question is, what can load these mines and if there is nothing, what is the ETA for them to be placed properly in game?
Thanks! Xenex

You just wasted isk, hope it wasn't much
AFAIK there are no plans to put mines back in game.

Thanks for the quick answer. Nah it wasn't much, came free with a Ferox BPC. Wish they'd bring 'em back though, I've got some neat thoughts for their uses.

as did former FU... made a nice mine field around our station with only 1 "safe" warp in to the station =]
but couple days later (and lotsa kills ) we were told to take it down or face bans...
was a lot of work too

We played with mines alot shortly after release. Was awesome training tools for our noobs. Lots of em stopped thinkin straight when stuff started blowin up, and ive yet to see an explosion match 200 mines and 70 ships all exploding at the same time (crashed my comp haha).
They were really cool, too bad they got taken out. You could do so many neat things with mines.
With anchoring out now, maybe CCP will introduce mine layer elite ships, that can launch mines. Then you can anchor them to activate them or something, and they cannot be anchored closer then 5km to each other, up the damage to 300 per mine.
Would make things interesting having mine fields around conqourable stations and stuff, or at the sun or around your POS. _______________________________________________

Foomanshoe, that is a very sensible post. I can't see a single problem with doing that at all. It'd be useful for protecting POS and secure cans, especially in 0.0 space. That would make moving to 0.0 so much more plausible for a lot of folks.

Yea agreed thats quite an idea there, this would make the game certainly more tactical and interesting. Ofcourse mines need some tweaking imo, as single item they would cause too much lag, why not make and "area of effect" kind of thing where u could set the density of the field to increase the dmg potential or covering range, with different typ of mines which are either effective vs larger vessels or smaller ones.
A T2 cruiser, deploying a mine field, setting the attributes and then anchoring it.. Could be a nice come-back for the mines and all the mine-fans

What would prevent all the pirates from just making the 0.0 accesses giant minefields? If we could prevent that I think it would be a fun (re)addition ---

The ability not to ancher within 50km of a gate or npc station? The ability not to activate a mine when its not anchored?

Edited by: Helox on 22/05/2005 08:02:59 How about a mobile large warp disrupter in a chokepoint system like PF-346. Then surround that with mines. Or better yet, do it in a .4 system. Pulling everyone out of space, then blow them up. You only have to drop by with some new mines every hour and pick up the loot.

i want them back!
instead of having 1000s of mines how about smarter mines
i second anchoring every 5km, say with a limit of 250 mines within a mine field and no more placeble mines within 500km (say have only anchorable items like warp disrupters and pos's able to have mines place around them)
if we cant have 1000s of mines placed how about mines that can move a little way from where they r anchored with variable speeds and payloads for S M L and XL mines with XL Mines with say 2000 exp, 2000 emp, 2000 kin, 2000 thermal damage or 500 each of exp, emp, kin, and thermal.
friend or foe id for the mines for a corp or indervidual so if u have given a corp or an indervidual a -10 rating the mines will explode but not for someone who wanders in to the mine field by mistake
all thes features and more r within modern navy mines
and of corse mine laying skills and launchers (on indys) and mine hunting skills and mods to remove or expload mines
Flame away!
All that is truely urs, is whats in ur head. |

Actually CONCORD would wtfpwn you just for deploying them
Anyhow, i miss mines. Id like to see a one size fits all mine that works similair how missiles are planned to work. Small ships get less damage and big ships get more. Overall mines should be fairly high damage to any ship type. ---------------------------

They should let you put mines back in but only in 0.0 like mobile warp disruptors.
Or have them so you can place them in 0.5 and under and only attack corps your at war with and -5.0 peeps and then 0.0 it attacks anyone with -0.0 or lower sec to you or your corp or the even community.
What ya think? ----------------------------------------

Edited by: Syntomo on 22/05/2005 17:32:31 They need to make minefields that require fewer server objects to load. It doesn't really matter what the gfx look like. All the mine field needs to behave like is an npc missile turret even if it looks like a minefield.
If they can run out of mines/missiles all the better. If they can distinguish friend and foe, and neutrals, even betterer.
Unlike normal npcs however, these should have different behavior. They should have high hp at the central uh.. field node and a small sig radius. The object should launch 1 mine at you experimentally, then 2, then 3 , then 4, etcetera. Since they have limited ammo, this will prevent noobships and shuttles from depleting them too easilly. They really should be pod-kill enabled too.
The anchoring time should be 2 hours or more to prevent them being used by mobile gate campers rather than people in fixed positions or around HQs or within replenishment and maintenance distance.

A minefield object is a better way to implement mines, then if you fly through it, 'missiles' randomly spawn within 5km of your ship every 10 seconds, this happens until all the mines in the minefield are expended, and then it's gone.
On the client it can look like lots of little mines, but on the server it should just be one big object.
Then a device that takes a launcher slot called a mine-layer is added, it takes up to 500 mines, and when you activate it, all of those mines are dropped into a mine field.
Special T2 mine-layer ships have a 50% bonus per level to the number of mines that can be carried by a mine-layer module (so at lvl5 you can drop 3000 mines into a field).
Firing off a smart-bomb in a minefield reduces its volume by 20*<SB radius in km> (so a large sb reduces it by 100), but also subsequently spawns 10 'missiles' near your ship.
Minefields should also reduce the velocity of ships that travel within them by 15%
