My wife used to treat addicts, amongst others, and she'd always comment that the worst form of addiction was alcohol. Coming off that is far, far more dangerous and damaging than the H stuff.

Nope, more like
Stupidly rich guy / large company goes into an investment bank "Hey I have too much money and want to open a bacon factory in Saudi Arabia. Is this a good idea?" Then after the bankers have looked at them for being total idiots they might say yes then they come to us and ask. "This stupidly rich idiot has too much money, we want some of their money, is their idea good?"
Then we come back and tell them no and why. We dont offer investment advice, but warn about the risks involved due to war / religion / politics / future potential disasters.
We're not accountants, we sign off on large investments for the insurers and underwriters so if it all goes pear shaped they know who to blame. (not us, but the idiots who advised them to do this)
In the financial world we're paid to be honest and this is a bloody rare thing. Post with your brainGäó |

Quite a fun read actually, impossible to take serious. Oh and a very nicely illustrated bible, it was in quite good condition. I don't have a job now, so I live on my savings, but in 2013 I have planend to take a training course that will allow me to get a job at the hospitals as what they call a backup nurse (bad translation). It will net a fair ammount of money and it will give experiance :) If you are having Smurf problems I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but a Blue aint one. |

Funny thing though, I get bored with WoW easily and what I like about Eve is there really is something to do for us casual players (read as Husband and father of a 5 month old daughter). I mainly mine on my main and once this guy is trained will transfer him to the other account and have a mission runner/pirate. Again, totally casual. I couldn't really do that in WoW or else I'd fall behind in gear from the rest of the Guild. |

it is actually quite funny. Ppl have often said that wow is getting dumped down for casuals. However I say that wow is getting dumped down for the bad/ lazy. When I started wow there was lots of challenging content. However as more of it got dumped down I was forced into more hardcore playstyles to get the challenges I was seeking. If you are having Smurf problems I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but a Blue aint one. |

Back in the day (bear with me here) when you didn't jump into system at a gate etc, people kind of assumed that you were a grizzled old Elite vet or something like that. More than once I've heard "aren't you a little young to be into this kind of game?". Now, ten years later I'm turning 30, and, while many people strike me as annoying adolescents the first time I meet them, I often realise that I'm the little kid.
Don't often see that outside of hardcore sim or 4X communities.
I'm in an interesting position, seeming both young and "old". Best not to observe me too closely or I might collapse. |

Whilst I enjoy the game, it isn't football.
Football is played with a round ball and as a sport was a round far earlier, thus being the only true football.

For a second there I thought you were talking about Broadcast Television. It was for this very reason, being under-appreciated, I gave up on meteorology after 10 years in the broadcast business. It sucked the living passion right out of me. However, it also allowed me to explore other potential careers and lead me towards my love of IT/Information Security. But yeah, working for the wrong company can suck the life out of you if you let it. Oh, and I'm only half a decade away from 40 and still love computing but I don't deal with customers/non-techies anymore so that could be the reason. |

Just make sure that you get a clear accelerated promotion path to reward you for the time that you have invested in getting the qualifications that they are going to benefit from The one that the chaps at the recruitment office pointed to me towards was Marine Engineering Officer, seemed interested in getting me to go for the Submarine fleet though. Mention of postgrad diplomas too, still researching it but it looks appealing to do for a few years and look at BAE or do an EngD and see how it ends up Did this, though I went enlisted.

As I understand things, the RN submarine fleet does this a bit different - All USN submarine officers are fully-qualified engineering officers, too. I understand that the RN uses what we in the USN wouldd refer to as 'Limited Duty Officer - Engineering' for their Reactor sections. Quite possibly the RN practice is a superior method - Not sure. Certainly, though, you'll get a LOT of very specialized and practical information shoved into your head. Which is both fun, and useful.

Nah, more like Stupidly rich guy / large company goes into an investment bank "Hey I have too much money and want to open a bacon factory in Saudi Arabia. Is this a good idea?" Then after the bankers have looked at them for being total idiots they might say yes then they come to us and ask. "This stupidly rich idiot has too much money, we want some of their money, is their idea good?" Then we come back and tell them no and why. We dont offer investment advice, but warn about the risks involved due to war / religion / politics / future potential disasters. We're not accountants, we sign off / warn against large investments for the insurers and underwriters so if it all goes pear shaped they know who to blame. (not us, but the idiots who advised them to do this) In the financial world we're paid to be honest and this is a bloody rare thing.

Reminds me of the time when the Royal Navy were hauling a target around for the gin-soaked waxy-moustachiod ones in the RAF for target shooting one day.
After a few runs from the RAF the captain of the RN vessel opened up a channel and spoke to the firing controller, "For your information we're towing the target, not pushing it" |

Yea, I remember one cruise we pulled into port and the whole side of our ship was tan from all the sand flying around. The only airborne ASW platform that ever worried me was the P-3. No other airborne platform had the endurance and processing capacity to do anything serious to us without they had immediate hull-born support available. And what is hull-born support, you may ask? Did you just do installations? Or diagnostics and repair? A lot of garages are hopeless at electrical diagnostics, and just start replacing random parts if they're not sure, and give up after you've blown a load of money. With a lot of complex cars approaching and passing their 10th birthday you could keep yourself busy for a long time.

My previous car died two days after I bought it, turns out the electrical system was a complete mess with re-soldered and crossed wires everywhere (shouldn't have worked when I bought it). After a good while the guys at the garage gave up and said "look, we got it to run now, but we have no idea if we actually fixed it. It worked when it couldn't have, didn't work when it should have, and now we don't know what state it's in. Are you sure it's a good idea to keep this car?"
Made me laugh, right until they told me they'd still have to charge full price for the diagnostics and repairs. (to their credit, it never acted up like that again) Bored? In need of ISK? Know how to draw? Design me a T-shirt! |

Mainly installation work, but quite capable of diagnostics work, 10 year old cars are still relatively simple compared to the modern stuff, thanks for the idea, I'll look into it.

US Navy submarine sonar tech aboard a Virginia class fast attack.
Sadly not as effective at picking up girls as one would initially think. Fighter pilots struggle with the same problem, none of the ladies ever believe that's what we actually do for a living. They think we're lying to score a one night stand. At least half of that is true. Trolling is like art. Anyone can finger paint, but it takes true talent to create a masterpiece. |

And I work at one of your competitors. :D
So is there really any difference in SEP 12 logs/log format vs. SEP 11? I go well with Coca Cola... |

Always a hazard in this profession. Confidence is the key, you cant let the software know you are afraid. I work for a company acting as returns agent for a major manufacturer of appliances in the UK, stuff like kettles, toasters, etc.
I deal with a hell of a lot of paperwork from retailers large and small, while also being the IT support department for the company, all on my own, without getting the pay that a proper support tech would get in a similar place.
Forums are my savior :) |
