How are we uncivilised ? we kill others in the game.. yes.. but thats part of the game after all ?
If you kill me you wont get a torrent of abuse as I generally stay civilised and leave it at that.. its just a ship after all
And what is the purpose of Isk ? for me its for one thing... to have enough isk to buy and fit my ship ? nothing more.....
I dont run missions / NPC / Mine ... all i do in the game is PvP as thats what I enjoy. Im poor as hell lol... currently in a Bc till I can make some isk to insure my new ship Who cares ? If I wanted to just make money in the game I would have just run missions with the rest of the sheep
So explain to me what is the purpose of money ?
I thought it was just about having fun

Indeed. Seems like they really don't understand mind of a normal people. What person on post #30 said, is very common answer from pie-rat. Why is his way of "having fun" only way and us others who "works virtually after real work" are ghay and should be killed because of that. Does those lazy bums ever stop to wonder "WHAT IF" someone actually ENJOYS playing game by getting as much ISK as he can?
There is only few civilized pirates out there and I respect them totally. I won't say names because I'm a well known "forum warrior" and I dont want to drag their names here _______________________________________________ My opinions aren't my corporations opinions.

I wouldn't. Seriously, in paying up 100mil they finance your ability to do this over and over. And more importantly, give you an incentive to do so.

Because the entire game is PVP based and even carebears like a good fight now and then. No matter what the circumstances no pirate will ever get a single isk from me. I'd rather fight and lose then cop-out and pay-up. That's boring; even a losing fight is exciting and fun.

I have been ransomed twice, both times I was asked for nearly 100% the value of the ship (not modules) and there is no garuantee they won't kill it anyway. If I'm gonna have to pay anyway, im going down fighting. Try asking a more reasonable price, maybe you'll have better luck. Most people get pi***d when you've got 'em face down in the dirt, add in the sound of a zipper and you're unlikely to get cooperation unless the "toll" is better than the alternative.

I told a newbie in a Tristan the other day "U GIVW 100K OR I KILL NOW!!" I orbited him at optimal, taking down his shield each time he boosted it back up, and then I had to teach him how to give me money, but he couldnt figure it out so I gave up and killed him for his named mining laser I. Maybe some people don't know how to pay you??

It would be the same as paying terrorists and kidnappers, as a rule people just don't do it.
Pirates are no different

I killed a Cyclone in my Retribution a week or so ago. I scrambled the pod, asked for 10m as he was an old player, he paid up and was very polite, I said thanks and warped off.
Why can't it be more like that more often? _________________

i would rather lose 1 bil than pay 1 isk. its all principle.
ooh and the stupid pirate thing..i like pvp..then go to 0.0 instat of attacking miners for easy ganks and easy points for your scoreboard
if your so thoug then attack pvpers..or wait that diddnt work out and you died alot..ooh yeah that must be why you go fight miners because you are bad in pvp.
if they declare war..hire a merc corp. or get some friends in your corp and kick the hell out of those guys. yust make sure they dont get easy ganks
mining corp do have npc guys that do have some combat skills ;)
some pirates do runn very fast
and it only cost a little to make a new corp to be in until war is gone id you want to bore the pirate to death or hop to npc corp and fly around him when he camps the ceo of the corp
pirates are yust wimps that want easy kills and cant stand that there are people with more isk then him

We declare war often on corps in empire. If we do ransom, we mainly do it out of curtisy. But we know they wont pay and we dont really want them too. We just like to fight in empire space for the thrill.
My corp hasnt war a miner corp yet, we dont plan on to anytime soon. We mainly aim for corps that would fight.
Anyways, I seriouslly dont see why they would pay the ransom. I wouldnt, fighting is way more fun.

I have declared war on 2 diferent corps and they rather die and lose all their implants them pay me.....
1 corp died cause of the war and the other one is losing members daily.....
Theyve lost over 300mil on my pods....and all i asked was 100.....
Dont know waht to do .....I just want some isk...
Why dont they, thats allways the reason of pirate, narrowminded and well lets face it its sharper knifes in the drawer.
if they pay you you gain isk on going to war, if they dont you lose isk on going to war. So they refuse to pay who is the loser then?
you aimed, missed by a mile, and lost isk on an action and say they are stupid. yeah expected from a pirate...reason isnt it Yarrr yarr hick.
just as you know the moment you declare war your no longer a pirate :) your just a soldier in a war. bites dont it, all that fighting and no pirate glory at all
one reason i allways win the war is im not in it for the money tbh its just a nice bonus and a job well accomplished im only there for the action its a game its supposed to be fun it was also fun when i had 300k in my wallet and flew rifters and vigils for tackling money does not matter the least tbh if u dont pay the ransom i just have another can to loot and a mail to post for our boards so who's being narrow minded?
It's a pity, maybe you could pay for some punctuation lessons had you more isk.

It could be anything, from being too damn stubborn to pay you (or, in role playing terms, "honour") to being too short sighted to see the end nearing (i.e. keep recruiting, keep trying to keep yourself stocked and financed while anybody can see it's all done in vain).

They don't pay because it would be a waste of money. They know that if they paid you once they'd never hear the end of you.
Picture a terrorist with a pistol and a hostage:
"Give me an assault rifle or I'll kill the hostage" So they do, and he takes 5 more hostages......
"Give me a tank or I'll kill the hostages" So they do, and he aims it at a school.........
"Give me a nuclear bomb or I'll blow up the school" So they do......
"Give me a nuclear missle submarine or I'll blow up the city" So they do.......
"Give me a fleet of missle subs or I'll blow up your country" So they do..........
"Build me a Deathstar or I'll blow up the planet" So they do...........
"Well, I guess you've got nothing else I want. Time to test the new deathstar."
BOOM!!!
(I guess they should have given the assualt rifle to the first hostage)

I can't speak for ransoming a corp being as I am not in one beside the newbie corp, but if a pirate locked me down in space and demanded a reasonable ransom I would pay it. Assuming there was no trash talk involved. I think it takes skill to lock someone down and get their sheilds down quickly enough to get your ransom and get out. From an RP perspective I don't like pirates much, but they do add an element of excitement to the game and from what I have read the real pirates are polite and professional and I respect that. Just my two ISK worth.

'Stand and deliver. I am here by be charging you gate Tax'
That i can understand, would luah about for orginality and as long as it was reasonable...like 1 mill ...... I would be tempted to pay.
But.......'Pay me 300Million now or I will get my corp to dec on you and if you don't do it now i will hound you out of the corp your in now and every other corp you join'
Makes me want to really give the money to a merc instead.

First time I was ransomed I was webbed/scrambled in a cyclone with only 10mil isk in my pocket. The pirate askes for 20 mil, I thought to myself that even if I had the cash the risk of him podding me is too high (never trust a stranger that's just attacked you). Lost my ship and was podded, but could afford to buy and insure a new one. If the ransom was 1 mil then I might have taken a chance. First time I was ransomed by another corp, they wanted 30 mil to undeclare. I didn't have the money but didn't care anyway as I was looking forward to a little pvp. If the other guy wanted to pay 1mil a week for my enjoyment that was fine by me. Unfortunately the arsewipe undeclared after 36hrs, never had 1 battle :(. Still anyone who reads this is welcome to declare war on us and ransom if you really want (but I'm skint anyway). Just role play a little please, if you pay a ransom like 300mil in my opinion it makes you a loser by default.

Principles and value definately take front seat for a lot of people. My principles tell me don't pay, but if I had a t2 bpo in my hold, you damn right I would. Only time I've -ever- paid a ransom though was to protect my mates while they were vulnerable and a pirate knew where we were and we weren't going anywhere for a while cuz that would've cost a whole bunch more money than he was asking for. So it was literally ONLY a choice of losing over a hundred mil and my corpies ships, or losing a couple dozen mil.
Can't speak for everyone, but I think the pirate appreciated it, and I like to think my corpies appreciated it. We haven't left ourselves that vulnerable ever since either, so I got to take away both my ship and a lesson, both of which I consider very valuable. ---

Guess they will have to keep loosing barges and implants until they do the math....
BTW......any1 want to buy some Strip Miners??? They¦re used but they still work.......I found it in a can, near a frozen corpse...
Pod all day if you like. I never buy used strip miners because I know they are ill gotten gains. I'll gladly pay 2.9 M to an NPC instead of giving you 2.7M to continue shooting miners.
Btw, I gotta lot of respect for someone that's willing to stand up against a bully when all they have to face you with are a set of mining lasers.
I daresay, you guys would never have the ballz to do the same ...

To be honest, the way Eve is at the moment I'm surprised more people don't wardec pirate extortionists in support of innocent Melon farmers just for somebody to shoot at. If the corp that is getting shot up by SugarDaddy's bunch would like to call "Jericho Fraction" / "the A team" (and if you can can find us) maybe we can help you build some Typhoon's out of old nuts and bolts and girders and show you how to fight back.
At the moment I'd really enjoy some hotshot extortionist war enemy to take pot shots at.
Alternatively SugarDaddy, you could always wardec Jericho direct ... speak to our CEO about the 100m demand I'm sure she'll pay (rumour is she's a soft touch)

I believe there is something called honor among pirates. Killing your ransom pray is bad for business, that just means other ransom prays wont pay up.
Personally it's about attitude. Give your pray a very short moment to respond, dont let them think too much. Shoot a few warning shots and if they havent paid up, then kill them. 4 times out of 5, they usually pay up for me.
Those who doesnt, are usually rich enough to have modules worth more than the ransom.

Ah, you again. :-) You declared war against us for 2 weeks. I dont know why, but with this posting...
One reason: You a a one men corp. How do you want to make some trouble. Another reason could be, that the most corps have to much money. Why should they pay?. In the two weeks you killed a shuttle and 2 indys from us, because they fly afk. Yeah... You are my hero. After we killed your ship, you retract the war. :-( If you want to make some trouble, then come with 50-100 people and declare war against us again.. Could be a little more interessting because we make 90% from our EVE time only PvP.

I would pay a ransom if it was resonable. I ran 3 gate camps last night. Only 1 even bothered to say anything, still made it to the gate before he could do anything. I paid the one who acually tried to speak with me after I got though the gate. I figure if he gets money for letting people though the gates instead of insta ganking he might practice it more. Gave him 2 mil total after the sales for my cargo went though. I had paid about 10mil for cargo and ship. I wouldn't have paid more than 2mil.
As for people who gank at gates. Just think on how much stuff they are destroying. You will normaly get more for the ransom than what is left. I've been gate ganked a couple of times. I would have paided 2mil easly, all they got was a couple of 20k modules since the cargo went pop. Ransomers need to be better at asking the right price instead to aiming high, your not going to get ISK if you asking for the value of his ship since it's insured most likely and will get most of the ship value back.

Why dont player pay pirates? Why can't pirates just leave players alone?
I guess the answer to both are, cause they dont have to, and a little about greed.
I took my barge to mine in 0.0 got ransomed for 30 mill or i would die, ok the ore in my hull was worth 1 mill my barge 15 mill. I died offcource. I few days later i tried again lost yet another barge. so i tried one more time and failed again. I know life can be harsh sometimes, so now i mine in empire space and get yelled at by pirates for being a carebear.
Want a million dollar tip :) dont blackmail miners for isk offer them protection against other pirates instead, might see some isk rolling in then.

It all comes down to EGO. People this is a way to make isk. If some of theses people ran there own company they would be backrupt. If I was losing billions of isk a week, I dont think I would like it very much. I would find a way to make it stop. And theres only a couple of ways to do that. Pay off the attackers, pay a merc corp, or win in the fights. Its not hard to fig. it out. Ego is a big corp, killer. Some people cant pay off attackers because of it. ________________________________________________ I would love to get in a battle of wits with you, but you seem to be unarmed. |

You find it hard to ransom people because if theres one thing more painful than paying up and leaving with your tail between your legs Its paying up and the war continueing / ransom demand getting repeated. You will get bored and stop shooting them eventually and chances are you wont war dec them again. This is a lot better than continually being stiffed with repeated ransoms / wars from the same corp.
Don't blame the people you try to ransom blame the dishonourable people who share your chosen career.
