Well, one out of 4 isn't bad.

There is an unofficial EVE player meet up in the U.S. in July. Look in the player gathering and events for more info. Its labled "July 16th meet up at Grand Central" 1 PM EST :)

Personally i'll never go to UK, i hear you guys have horrible problems with brats or "chavs" as you call them. In texas they wouldnt last 5 minutes...
Austin FTW!!!
Party on 6th Street, not to mention all the great restuarants. Then we could all head out to the lake to cool off. 23 straight days of 90+ weather here this month.

Glad to see my topic has grown into a country flame fest. I just wanted us people to vote on if they would go if it was held in the us lol. This has nothing to do with culture and seeing new things and being in new places...it's about convenience. There's like 11,000 people logged on at peak time in eve yet under 300 people showed for the first fanfest correct? I bet you if you moved it to europian soil it would 10x the number of people who came, or put it somewhere more practical. $$ and location is the problem for me. I think the dev's should have a 3 fanfests, 1 in iceland, euroland, and in the us. Or let's get off our asses us people and get one of our own going since no one else wants to. I just want to meet people who love this game like I do and don't give me strange look's when I talk about the game or am in a bad mood because of "politics". So just say the place you want the fanfest in at the top of your post so I can just get a general idea of what the majority of eve's opinion is on the subject. Let's step back from the random flaming :-)

I'm all for a US fanfest. Not because I can't afford to FLY to Iceland, but for the fact Iceland's prices are HIGH AS HELL! It's what 70 bucks to get a meal at the Rock 'n' roll cafe, and what 200-300 bucks a night at a hotel. Mcdonalds anyone? Try 20 bucks for a meal!
Not picking on Iceland hehe, but yeah umm I'm not rich... US fanfest would be nice! Hell England or Canada be better than Iceland!

I was unhappy that I missed the fanfest last year.
I'll miss it again this year, simply can't afford it...
After reading this thread, it's apparent that you can't even make 50% of the ppl happy...
I'll just wish CCP lot's of luck with it, and hopefully they take a ton of pictures... ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

Originally by: kieron CCP's reasoning for not holding a FanFest outside of Iceland simply boils down to the expense, not politics or travel laws. Researching a venue, paying for the venue, Dev travel/lodging, transportation of the necessary support materials, etc. is too prohibitive.
This does not mean that CCP won't support player gatherings or shy away from hosting more "Drink with the Devs"-type parties like the one that was held in conjunction with the Game Developers Conference in March.
If you are planning a player gathering and would like some CCP support, send me an e-mail. I cannot guarantee Developer attendance, but I can promise some nice swag depending on the expected number of attendees.
Ah, but Kieron. Holding a FanFest in the US could also allow you to plug the game here, where it's all but off the shelves of most stores. Except for those of us that caught wind of it during development, the US is a virtual un-tapped hoard of new players. :)
Either free the slaves or we will come and get them.

There are so many Sci-Fi geeks in the US, but there are so little of them in the game...
Get a commercial on the US Sci-Fi Channel, the new Stargate (With John Chriton & Aeryn Sun from Farscape), Stargate Atlantis & BattleStar Gallactica are starting up new seasons here in the US in July.
Those shows get great ratings for Sci-Fi shows, and I bet 90% of the audience watching has no frelling clue about EVE Online... ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

After seeing TomB covered in body guards at the last fanfest, I think they wouldnt hold a fanfest in America, in fear of some ship-nerfed angry player attempting to shoot TomB

Because Iceland is not a good location for either of the two. 90% of the eve population has to spend a great deal of money to fly there.

Yeah it would be nice to have us exposure of this game and some more us players so I don't have to wake up early to just have people on the game. I don't think i've ever seen the eve game in stores, though when I was in virginia like 4 months ago I found an eve online(gemini version?) sealed for like 5 bucks so I bought it. It's so pertty, anyways, us is just as safe/unsafe as any other place. Don't host it in the deep south or in the bronx or compton or downtown philly and you should be safe :-) If we organize one ourselfs will anyone from ccp even show? Can we at least get some stuff to give out or like your blessing? Us fanfest coming soon (too lazy to use character map)

Thats only because you've been to Cleveland and never to Iceland. Im sure lots of people would enjoy an indians game and a trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame :)
But anyways, its not a knock against iceland or anything... It would just be better to have fanfest somewhere where you could get more Fans (new and old) to attend. Not much new exposure to be found in iceland...
/me votes for Cleveland!!!!
