I don't know about all the us players in this game or how many there are but I don't know anyone going to the iceland fest this year. Either the ability not to get time off from work or the steep prices to just go there from the us. Has ccp ever thought about flying down here and having a knock-off of the fest in the states?
I know us players are the minority in this game but when I heard about the eve fest I was pretty excited about the possibility of going until I found out it's location. Then after that I still thought about going but after looking at the prices A regular crappy job working joe like me can't afford it. So i'm just curious if ccp has ever thought about coming down here too.
I would like to take a vote of us players of who would go if they held an eve fest in lets say: LA, or Ny, or I dunno Tx. I would definately go.

Are you implying not only the developers, but the international playerbase who intend to show up to the FanFest have criminal records that prevent them from entering the US? :D

lol great thread. best place would be london tbh.
less intrusive security and just as simple and cheap to get to as the states.

I was not going to say that but....its not a political conversation and should turn into one, lets just say from the treads last year as regards this, most of the European players ect did not want this..as regards myself sure hell I have to pay 100 euro if I even want to go to the states and thats so I can go down to the us embassy for a interview!

Again London is nice but way to big, if it was UK I would say Glasgow or edinburagh. LOndon is to big. there is no social aspect.

It's a joke. Dont take it so seriously.
A good location would be London. It's the centre of the universe and would force some culture into you hicks.

To be honest, air travel in the US isn't THAT BAD. :)
There can be some pretty major delays definitely, but overall it's fairly streamlined.
Back to the topic, I'd like to recommend Canada as a great location to hold a fanfest. We drink a lot here, so CCP staff should feel right at home. ;)

Canada would be good, because most of Europe does not hate them like they hate us...
Plus, I go to Canada every weekend to visit my GF, so I'm cool with that!
I vote for Toronto, hold the fanfest at the observation deck of the CN tower!

CCP's reasoning for not holding a FanFest outside of Iceland simply boils down to the expense, not politics or travel laws. Researching a venue, paying for the venue, Dev travel/lodging, transportation of the necessary support materials, etc. is too prohibitive.
This does not mean that CCP won't support player gatherings or shy away from hosting more "Drink with the Devs"-type parties like the one that was held in conjunction with the Game Developers Conference in March.
If you are planning a player gathering and would like some CCP support, send me an e-mail. I cannot guarantee Developer attendance, but I can promise some nice swag depending on the expected number of attendees.

Id say London, America, is out of the question since I doubt the majority of Americans even know where Iceland is.
I must admit tho, Dublin would be a ******* good laugh, i doubt id make it to the fanfest tbh, id be too drunk..

Edited by: Raid on 28/06/2005 14:56:05 Why not Canada? Its in north america its not terribly expensive to travel to and you can get a renvue much cheaper if you choose the right location. For example there are fantastic venues at any of the casino's (montreal, niagara falls for example_.. im sure they will give CCP a HUEG discount because of the number of people they will bring into the casino. Its easy enough for everyone to get into the country...
Please at least consider this kind of thing.. Yes it will cost more than having it in Iceland but you will get MUCH more support and a ton of new people.

To be honest a European venue will get more visitors than Canada as most of the player base is in Europe.
I think Iceland is a good venue. I always blow the trumpet for my home country. I am sure CCP are justifiably proud of their country and whoever goes will have a blast.

Problem with hosting it in iceland is 99% of the eve population has to fly there.. which costs money that a lot of people simply cant afford. Europe is fine but it has to be in a place where you can get more people (IE not iceland). The Euro is really strong right now as well so financially it would be more difficult.. Canada offers a safe, hospitable and easy to travel to location. Holding it in Montreal would work well because both french and english are spoken there. Add to all this the weaker canadian dollar and the possibility of a low cost high quality venue and it should look like a very attractive place to host a multinational fanfest
