So four empire regions, connected low sec regions and of course null and wormhole systems.
Would you host an instance on your private server and invite friends to play, build, destroy and create?
Add a single player story line - Why not? Would you play it?

Interaction with people is by far the only selling point of EVE. Even if you are "soloer", you are still dealing with people on a daily basis. I have no idea what would you want to do in almost empty world tbh. |

But, you can definitely put a positive spin on this thread:
You have 5 no's, that means of EVE's player base of 450,000 accounts, 399,995 are yes! or at least positively considering your idea. |

We were talking about this once. What if there were only four of us and we wanted to build up our private force of ships, even to do level 4 missions, we would be playing for months just to get the materials and the BPCs for the T2 gear. For a single player to fuel and run a small pos you would need around 11 hours of ice mining a month or so (if you get good ice, more if you use the high-sec junk... and first you would need to get the BPOs for the mining barges, which means being able to survive in low and null, etc, etc, etc... it would be a major grind that would suck without cheating.
One plus side, on a private server you could have your own logs and they might show something. Absolutely not. Without large quantities of other players, this game would suck. If you want a taste of what that is like, go roll around on the SISI server.
If we were talking about WoW then yes I would be all for private servers. In that game, the presence of other players is actually a detriment rather than a necessity. One spends the first 30 minutes after logging into WoW doing nothing but putting all the vocal idiots on block.
To sum up, players in EvE make the game. Without their presence you would have no market. You would have mothing to buy or fly. Taking space would be meaningless with no opposition. Trolling is like art. Anyone can finger paint, but it takes true talent to create a masterpiece. |

To sell to buy orders. Do solo miners care who they sell to, so it may as well be npc buy orders.
In a slightly related theme, I'm sure there was a call for CCP to release a mission creator editor to the public and submit their creations. With the vast numbers of creative people who play Eve and the role play element, creating and designing mission arcs would be a boon for the pve players sick and tired of rescuing the damsel in distress. 2: No point to mining when you have nothing to do with the ore, or anyone to sell it to.
3: Whether they realize it or not even solo AFK miners would soon quit without the element of danger present in EvE. The risk gives them what little excitment they derive from that play style, and their ill thought through outrage fuels their determination... whether they care to admit it or not. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. The only way I could see this as a draw is if a somewhat large group of people wanted to try eve with a clean sheet of paper, and have control over who is allowed on the server. That is, no vets, unclaimed null, and so on. See what its like to start up on their own, form their own groups that can fight without all the old vets and alliances getting in the way.
Im not sure how many people it would take before this would be a fun exercise. My guess is several hundred to a few thousand. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

Who the hell would want to do that? You would have to like, build everything you want, no Jita or Amarr to go be lazy at and buy it.
And there would be nobody else to shoot, were is the fun in that?

But, you can definitely put a positive spin on this thread:
You have 5 no's, that means of EVE's player base of 450,000 accounts, 399,995 are yes! or at least positively considering your idea. Sorry, Merouk. You might want to check your math.

450,000 people? I think you of all people should know that subscriptions <> people.
I doubt there are even 50k individuals involved in this game...probably less.....

Does this include pretending I am a Merlin and making "pew pew" sounds with my arms straight out and "flying" around my living room?
I really wish everyone would stop typing it out as E v E...-á why?-á why is it lowercase?-á Is it because you think it is "everyone vs everyone"??-á Because if you do, you're just a pinhead.-á Yup.-á That's right...-á using "EvE" makes you a pinhead.-á Enjoy your 1950's American insult... |

Yes of course it would.
Perhaps a better question would be - would you play a single player game set in the Eve Universe.
As for hosting a private instance of Eve, no fear of that My HD isnt big enough.

Now that's a much better question.

You have a valid point on accounts not equaling the number of players (although there seems to be a push at CCP to get accurate metrics on actual individual players), however I sincerely doubt that the average number of accounts per player is 9 or 10. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Do not think they have much to fear from any hypotheticall Eve Online private server. After all, Eve's main draw is the massive amounts of players on one shard.
Almost all private servers I have seen - legal or otherwise - are ghost towns and a huge waste of time. What would be the point when the game's main draw is taken away?

Probably only for testing out different things and ideas.

If there were private servers, the small population of 400 people with a **** ton of alts would be split up, probably less then 100 people on the main public server. It would suck. I mean, all the miners would afk mine on a private server, the mission runners just running missions on private servers, ratters would be rattin on private servers. It would suck, with only 100 people on the main server, well, about 100,000 or so characters....but it would still suck. |
