Heres one of my Zealot PVP Setups for Small assault groups, this setup isnt really meant to do much tanking, more support for a Sac or other Tank / Fast locker.
High:
4x Heavy Pulse II 1x Medium diminishin NOS
Med:
1x 10Mn AB II 1x F-90 Sensor booster 1x 20k+ Warp scrambler (i use dread 24km) OR 90% Fleeting Webber
Low:
1x Medium Armor Rep II 1x N-Type Thermic Hardener 1x Local CPR 4x Heatsink II
Edit this Setup as you see fit, for your modules and skills

I don't know how much grid you have left after all that, but I'd try to remove one HS to put the biggest armor plate possible.
Replacing the 4 heavy pulse II by 4 heavy beam II might also be preferable in a lot of situations.

I can't remember mine exactly, but you can fit the Heavy Pulse II's plus a 1600mm plate and a repairer to give the ship quite a bit more survivability, dunno if an AB or MWD fits however...

That's practically my setup. With so many battleships about, MWD is just silly, and AB helps you duck their turrets. My midslots are 10mn AB II, cap recharger II and disruptor - my lows are med rep II, cap relay and 5 heatsinks. I love this setup; recently took it against two HAC, a Cerberus and a Muninn. With both firing on me, I managed to grease the Cerberus and get away from the Muninn intact.
Heavy Assault Ships 5 ftw.

Yeah i think most people are on the same page with the zealot, good little ship I sometimes fit like 7 damage mods if im 100% safe and know i wont be taking any hits (like camping my own space) then i get a 11.0 damage mod and 1.7 ROF and 11km optimal with Multis

I prefer something like this: 4x Heavy Beam II with multis 10mn ab II Sensor Booster II Tracking Comp II 6x heat sink II cpr
Damage is about the same, but range is more than twice better. Also you can run guns and mods forever.

I guess, luckily, you have never fought anyone who uses stabs . . .
For fighting FA, I drop the sensor booster and fit 2x 7.5k scramblers, works nicely

Um, why would you do that on a zealot? You'd be doing such crap damage that you might as well fly a sac. And 2 RCU IIs :S.

This was in response to my retribution setup....everyone wanted to know if you could tank a HAC like my retri was tanked (with a lot of armor HP and good resists). The zelot is the only ship that can do this while fitting a full rack of the best damage dealing weapons. *shrug* I'm still 47 days away from flying a HAC anyhow, so what do I know

With only 4 turret slots..
and 7 lows..
Small tank 2-3 slots, and heat sink IIs.
The ship just works well this way.

Edited by: Julien Derida on 01/08/2005 16:17:39 Heavy Pulses and Heavy Beams are very nice guns, but it's a shame everyone uses them to the exclusion of the smaller medium lasers. If you are clever about it, you can fit a Zealot that will beat the Deimos at it's own game(i.e. in a knife fight at close range). Ladies and Gentlemen, in keeping with the current craze for oversized plates and smaller guns, I give you the Platalot.
Here are two variants that I'm particularly fond of:
-------------------------- MWD Version
4xQuad Light Beam 1xMedium Nos
MWD 20k Scram Web
1x1600mm 1xMed Rep 1xThermal Hardener 4xHeat Sink --------------------------
AB Version
4xFocused Medium Pulse 1xMedium Nos
+ Same as above in mids and lows, but with an AB instead of a MWD. --------------------------
I've left out the exact modules you need to make this fit. It wouldn't be any fun otherwise
Both setups will give you 6k armour and between 300-350 DPS. I feel a lot happier flying my Zealot like this, as the Heavy Pulse setups always leave you vulnerable to a Deimos or a Platerax landing on top of you. This setup has nothing to fear in that situation. I've found this a much nicer ship for solo operations than the Heavy Pulse and Heavy Beam setups. ----------------------------------------

Nice setup, gives a different angle, i wouldnt use it unless i knew i was gonna be fighting a Deimos! the zealot dosent get the MWD bonus, and it can already run into cap issues without a MWD, also i think MWD's = Death in most combat situations (im talking multiple targets not a 1v1 Hac fight) Im not sure why you want to fit a MWD anyway (bar a 1v1 situation with a Deimos) i mean with a 1600 plate + 10mn AB II my Zealot goes well over 600m/s this is fast enough imo, plus a MWD gives you massive Sig bonus, which is kinda taking the point out of flying a HAC (small fast hard to hit) i know everyone has there own preference, and im not a fan of MWD's (even on a deimos, imho i think they get u killed faster) but if your gonna put a MWD on a Zealot, you should be flying a Deimos

You're right, the AB setup plays to the Zealot's strengths more. It just amuses me that you can set up a Zealot with a MWD, fly it exactly like a Deimos, and end up being able to beat the majority of Deimos' 1v1 . A plate Deimos would be the toughest fight, but far from unwinnable. ----------------------------------------

I think it's more a case of the Deimos being a tiny bit underpowered. You can set up a Vaga with plate + ACs and beat the Deimos at it's own game in a similar way. A small reduction in medium Blaster fitting would bring the Deimos back in line IMO. ----------------------------------------

I use the same setup as Julien does, and have been for quite a while now.
The Focused Med Pulse II do very decent damage. Tried a 1600mm + Heavy Pulse II setup aswell yesterday and the loss of Heat Sinks meant the Focused Meds actually did more damage then the Heavy Pulse, while having more cap.
Incidentially, you can fit it with a nosf / smartbomb aswell, which is fairly cool. Leave the last slot empty and youve enough grid for 4 Focused Med Beam IIs instead, which is kinda nice in groups over the Pulses.
Best 1v1 setup for HAC vs BS imho. Doesnt have the range limitations of the Deimos, while having plenty of damage and much better tank.
And yea, i suspect a Zealot nerf coming aswell. What i suspect happening is it losing a damage bonus, gaining a fifth turret but not getting any grid / CPU increase, forcing it to downgrade guns.

You may be right about the nerf, although historically CCP seem much less inclined to correct small balance problems in T2 ships than in T1 ships. Both Inties and AFs have had several ships that are better than the rest from the start. I see the Zealot, Vaga, Ishtar (and possibly Deimos) as being in the same position within the HAC class as the Tara, Claw and Crow are within the Inty class (or indeed the Wolf, Harpy, Enyo and Ishkur within the AFs).
I hope they don't nerf it anyway . ----------------------------------------

Hanns, i cant be bothered with maths right now, but:
Fit the Heavy Pulse II + 1600mm setup. Show Info on the Heavy Pulse II and divide Damage Mod by RoF and multiply with 96.
Do the same for the Focused Med + 1600mm + HeatSink setup.
Both numbers will give you the DpS for the respective setup.

Meri's setups ftw. you can fit a small neut on the 1600-no-med-rep one. Oh, and a small armor rep when flying solo (meri's idea, not mine) is helpful if you fight more than once and get into armor.

Well 5 fly around in huge blobs so who needs an armor rep when theres nobody to fight? j/k
tbh if your in a 1v1 an armor rep dosent really come into the equasion, its all about your hitpoints and how much damage you can dish out, and if your in a group situation 10k armor should be enough to give i time to warp out if needbe.
I however like having a armor rep on, since we go out into 0.0 for long runs, and not having one isnt practical.

any1 been in situation with zealot v vagabond. Seems to me the vagabond would win with its high em resistance however some people say zealot could win but i don't see how with the vagabond's high resistance to em damage. |

Ladies and Gentlemen, in keeping with the current craze for oversized plates and smaller guns, I give you the Platalot.
Here are two variants that I'm particularly fond of:
-------------------------- MWD Version
4xQuad Light Beam 1xMedium Nos
MWD 20k Scram Web
1x1600mm 1xMed Rep 1xThermal Hardener 4xHeat Sink --------------------------
AB Version
4xFocused Medium Pulse 1xMedium Nos

I've left out the exact modules you need to make this fit. It wouldn't be any fun otherwise
Both setups will give you 6k armour and between 300-350 DPS. I feel a lot happier flying my Zealot like this, as the Heavy Pulse setups always leave you vulnerable to a Deimos or a Platerax landing on top of you. This setup has nothing to fear in that situation. I've found this a much nicer ship for solo operations than the Heavy Pulse and Heavy Beam setups.
I use something similar.
--- 3x Heavy Pulse II 1x Focused Medium Pulse II
-- 10mn AB II Web Disruptor
- 1600mm rolled tungsten 5x HS2 1x Thermal hardner
Stats: 6200 armor with 60/80/62.5/67.5 resists outputting 475 DPS
This one is decent as well but i don't prefer it...
--- 4x Quad Light Beam II
-- 10mn AB II Web Disruptor
- 1600mm rolled tung (10%) 1600mm nanofiber (5%) 4x HS 2 1x RCU II
Stats: 9500 armor with 60/80/62.5/35 resists outputting 375DPS

ok this has gone far enough. Having read this it is clear to me that the zealot is in need of a bit of a nerf. Being able to fit 2x1600 plates plus a rack of medium guns using 1 RCU is herendously screwed up. The fact u can fit 1600 plate, along with MWD, nos + medium guns to a zealot without any grid modules is just plain crap.
Try fitting a 1600 plate to a deimos and getting a rack of electrons on, not to mention the MWD, rep + nos yet the zealot can do it easily. Thats before you take into account its 40m/s better BASE speed, which is also teh ghey. I agree it should be faster than the deimos, but not by such a large margin.
Being able to fit 2 1600 plates and still put out over 300 dps just screams nerf to me. If you fit a 1600 plate to a deimos ud be lucky to get 300 dps, not to mention the speed is atrocious.
Something needs to be done to plates (1600 need tougher fitting reqs to make the 800s a cruiser item) and maybe even to the zealot cos its just rediculously easy to fit everything you want on it. Sorry to cry nerf, but i think this situation warrants it

If you did that then you wouldn't be able to fit a standard setup with heavy beam IIs. I'm more in favour of increasing the fitting requirments of the plates rather than chopping down the Zealots grid if anything.

Ive found that a web is very important on a zealot: for frigs and for all close range ships.
BBQ deimos anybody?
Using a 90% web ive personally friend 2 deimos before they got me into 70% armour because they just cant get close enough without killing their cap and making themselves the size of a station. ------------------

Quote: I think it's more a case of the Deimos being a tiny bit underpowered. You can set up a Vaga with plate + ACs and beat the Deimos at it's own game in a similar way. A small reduction in medium Blaster fitting would bring the Deimos back in line IMO
Yes please!!! damm i want that bad!!
I could then stick 7 heavy ion blaster II's on my brutix instead of a mix of heavy ion II's and heavy electron II's

ohh and as for plates.. CCP please double the fitting requirements of 400, 800 and 1600 mm plates, but also double the hp they give you. That should screw up oversized plates but still keep em usefull for the ships they were intended for.

aye can fit a 1600 plate on my ishtar, leaves me with 375 grid. Just about enough to fit a mwd and a rep. without any RCUs i cant fit anything in my highs, with 1 RCU, i could possible squeeze 3 frig guns and a small nos or 2. maybe 1 medium
Ishtar does 420 DPS with 15 tech2 heavy drones which are not only damn expensive, take a damn long time to train for. Not to mention how easy they are to blow or up or leave behind.
Sorry, Jules, that means nothing at all. The ishtar wins cos of its versatility, not its dmg. It will never out dmg the likes of a deimos or zealot, but then it can do more so its not so important. A typical ishtar setup will push 350dps (13/14 tech1 heavy drones) and thats a standard setup. Stick a 1600 or even 800 plate on an ishtar and its screwed. The only thing that makes is good is lots of nos and lots of drones.
Fitting a 1600 plate means no nos at all, cept maybe small and their pretty crap. And anywayz, this isnt about the ishtar its about the zealot and its ease of fitting just about everything you could want on it and still doing tons of DPS. No other HAC i can think of can do that

Why not fit more RCUs? It's not like you need the lows for damage mods...
By my reckoning (rough admittedly), you should be able to fit 1600mm + Rep + AB + 2 Med Nos and still have enough grid left over for a rack of small guns. You'll have a similar tank to a 1600mm Zealot, similar damage, more cap/second drained, and 4 mids to stick EW in. Looks fine to me :P

Erm... doubling the hp and fitting reqs of an 800mm plate would leave you a module even more overpowered than the current 1600mm. It would take 100MW less to fit, and only have about 10% less armour. ----------------------------------------

Seriously, u can not fit a 1600 plate on an ishtar and get a workable setup aswell. Its just not possible. But a zealot can fit TWO 1600 and still fit medium guns. Please dont try and tell me thats in some way fair Jules (just cos u only got ur zealot a few days ago )

Cap holds just fine with 4 guns going. You get great bonuses for medium gun cap use. Its got a decent cap recharge as well (if not great cap). Nosses will hurt you if you are having to tank it and shoot.

but you have to admit that being able to fit medium guns + 1600 plate + mwd + NOS without needing 1 grid module is a little bit out of whack aswell as being able to fit 2x1600 plates and medium guns. I agree, in a stock fitting the zealot lacks certain things the deimos has, and vice versa (w00t for ships being different) but imo, its a tad out of whack with the way plates are
I still think plates are the route of all evil now but thats not really the zealots fault. I think 1600 plates and 400 plates should have their grid doubled and the zealot should be made 20m/s slower. No reason for it to be so fast

For 40 days training only to fly that ship I think the option to be able survive as BS isn't bad. BS training take less time.
Long lasting battles is the future. That's CCP view and target. Not 10 hours camping 1 minute fight.
The modules are fine as they are now. And the ship too. Deimos is fricking ship. All BS scatter on sight the same all the frigs.
Ofc you are talking on your point of view. Frig Merc fleets are bit fragile against few HACs.
If they raise the reqs for the platings a lot of BS out there will not be able to tank properly, other cruisers are doomed, and a lot of AF who use 400mm will not be able to do it. (Know they give up damage to fit it on).

One option would be to let the plates (and shield extenders) have a slight mass increase, similar to the oversised AB fix.
I mean if i tried to fit BS plating to a cruiser wouldnt it be serverly nerfed in speed and agility.

Your drones have frigate tracking and do more damage then a Zealots 4 turrets slots + 4 low slots and take no CPU/PG/---/--/- slots.
Not to mention those 5 juicy mid slots that could easily turn off turret ships in a heart beat. Oh but wait, the Zealot has 7 lows, 4 of which we have to use to match the damage of your drones.

What exactly do you do when your guns can't hit?
Harsh language?
You die.
Now enjoy your 30jump trip to empire in a pod to replace a ship that is worth a lot more then some t2 drones.
run away?
While scrambled, interesting.

The thread was good untill the whole 'Zealot overpowered' thing started. If people lack imagination to beat something, doesnt mean someone else's setup and / or ship is suddenly overpowered.

Would you guys stop the bickering and make a "omg Zealot 4tnerf" thread instead of polluting this zealot setup thread.
this has been a good thread untill now, would hate to see it locked.

well how do i counter a 1600 plate zealot setup in my deimos? Even pushing nearly 600dps its not enuf to defeat it.
I dont necessarily think its the zealot that needs nerfing (though i do just cos i cant convince myself it can do stuff better than my deimos ) its just the ease of fitting a plate on one that kinda gets my goat.
Oh and why cant i comment on a ship i dont fly? Im fairly sure meridius doesnt fly an ishtar but hes always screaming for it to get nerfed. The ishtar is infact a damn fragile ship and is, again, easily countered. But thats a different subject altogether
oh and fitting EW to an ishtar is not that easy. Its lacking in the cpu department aswell as the grid department, but it makes up in other areas. Just thought id point that out

I didn't expect to hear this kind of tripe from you
I've never ever wanted a nerf for the Ishtar, ever.
The only thing i wanted nerfed was tech 2 drones (only tech2 items with zero fitting drawbacks). ________________________________________________________

Originally by: Julien Derida Edited by: Julien Derida on 01/08/2005 16:17:39 Heavy Pulses and Heavy Beams are very nice guns, but it's a shame everyone uses them to the exclusion of the smaller medium lasers.
Hmm...bah I guess I need to train Adv Weapons Upgrades to 4, I'm off by like 30pg trying to fit those setups. :) ---------------------------------- I play EvE and I don't even get a stupid signature. |

Edited by: Farjung on 06/08/2005 08:16:52 Edited by: Farjung on 06/08/2005 08:11:30 Hmmm. I spent the evening moaning to my corpmates about this, until I decided it would actually be more constructive to look at ways around it. So, let's have a look how much you would have to sacrifice to fit a 1600mm plate on a deimos (omg thread hijack).
1600mm
Assumed skills: electronics 5, engineering 5, weapons upgrades 5, adv. weapons upgrades 4
Deimos with 2 x RCU II has 1,421.6875MW, 412.5tf
5 x electron blaster II (105 * 0.92 * 5 = 483MW, 33 * 0.75 * 5 = 123.75tf)
10MN MWD II (165MW, 50tf) / Faint epsilon scram (1MW, 24tf) / Fleeting web (1MW, 22tf)
Med rep II (173MW, 28tf) / N-type explosive (1MW, 32tf) / 1600mm reinforced rolled tungsten (500MW, 28tf) / magnetic field stabilizer II (1MW, 30tf) / 2 x RCU II (20 * 0.75 * 2 = 30tf)
Total grid: 1,325 / 1421.7MW
Total CPU: 367.75 / 412.5tf
So that leaves 96.6875MW, 44.75tf and a highslot free - not very pretty. And the cap's looking a bit shady as well - maybe dropping one RCU II to a power diag II and downgrading the rep to a small (it'll fit just about, if you knock a couple of t2 things down to t1 anyway), or alternatively ditch the rep completely for a second damage mod. Anyway, the point is that you can cram 1600mm + electrons on with two RCU II. So what's the damage like?
Assumed skills: Gunnery 5, rapid firing 5, surgical strike 5, med hybrid 5, med blaster spec 4, has 5
Damage mod per gun: 2.1 * 1.25 (med hyb 5) * 1.25 (gall cruiser 5) * 1.25 (HAS 5) * 1.08 (med blaster spec 4) * 1.1 (mag stab II) = 4.87
RoF: 3 * 0.8 (rapid firing 5) * 0.9 (gunnery 5) * 0.895 (mag stab II) = 1.9332
DoT for 5 guns: 5 * 4.87 * 24 / 1.9332 = 302.3 dps
DoT for 10 hammerhead II w/ Gallente drone spec. 4: 10 * 9 (base damage) * 1.92 (base multiplier) * 1.04 (spec) / 2 (RoF) = 89.856 dps
That's pushing a touch under 400 dps, whilst having a similar tank to the single plated quad light beam setup that Jules described. Not all that bad, although it's still slower than the zealot, and if the zealot's running AB rather than MWD the deimos will be forced a significant distance into its falloff more than likely. Boosting the Deimos' grid by 10-15% would be nice, but anyway.
And Eye: don't confuse Meridius with Selim ;D

You'll be running around with 6000+ armor, and 72, 88, 73, 74 resists.

And is the Deimos not predictable too? ALl these Amarr fanboys just need to open their eyes and realise the Zealot needs nerfing. I HOPE THEY NERF IT TO HELL AND BACK. And that's coming from an AMarr. It is int he best interests of the game for ships to be balanced, not the same just balanced. No way a Zealot should be able to fit medium guns, 2 x 1600 plates, med rep etc. That is simply retarded and anybody who argues against that fact needs a good fisting. I am right, kthanx bye.

i fly the zealot and it can be easily countered. its not like you do not know what to expect from a zealot.
ifit is to loose powergrid then i would like your 15 tech2 guns that has 30k range and zooms around your ship attacking anything that attacks you in a instant without the need for targeting/cap/cpu/powergrid.
have a nice day.

Get a clue!!
A single tracking disruptor will pretty much render a Zealot useless.
It does EM/Thermal Dmg, which SUCKS against armour tanking ships.
It is useless for attacking most Minmatar ships.
See? Its not so great now is it, bud.
It is awesomely powerful, and has some awfully big drawbacks too. Seems pretty fair to me. Now, the best possible PVP setup is plates and QLB II's. ROF 1.6 seconds, dmg mod nearly x5
This setup can kill an Ishtar.
Also, whack a medium neut in the spare high slot. ____________________________________________

My Zealot was jumped by 2 Thoraxes and I went down in flames after a fairly long fight. My setup was similar to most others here:
HI: 3 Heavy Pulse II 1 Med pulse II 1 Med Nos II
Med: Scrambler Web AB
Low: 1 1600 tung plate 3 HS II 1 cap relay 1 thermal hardner 1 med repper II
What would have been my best tactic to survive this? They were in close, I was scrambled, and I assume they used blasters. They used a full set of berserkers and I think I should have shot at the drones first instead of the thoraxes. I assume priority #1 should be to eliminate the damage cability of my opponent before actually killing them but I don't know.

They used a full set of berserkers and I think I should have shot at the drones first instead of the thoraxes. I assume priority #1 should be to eliminate the damage cability of my opponent before actually killing them but I don't know.

1st big flaw I can see in your setup is the use of a frig size med pulse in a ship that gets a double bonus for cruiser size weaps. Get rid of the medium pulse/3 hvy pulse setup in highs. The following is a decent setup that is closest in resemblence to yours:
High: 4 * Focused medium pulse2 1 * Medium nos2 Mids: 1 * 10ab2 1 * Faint or fleeting warp disruptor 1 * Fleeting web Lows: 1 * Medium rep2 1 * 1600 Rolled tung 1 * N-type thermal hardener 3 * Heat sink2 1 * Power diag2 (to fit the above will need this in place of cpr, at least I do)
In that particular situation it depends on what they were using for guns. Odds are they were using 1600 plate setup raxes w/ frig size guns - rails or blasters or maybe even lasers. If so, even though they were using the worst type of drones against you; explosive drones against your 80% resists, I would've webbed and whacked their drones 1st since their non damage assisted frig guns are not the main source of their firepower. Also their tanks will be a bit thick.
On the other hand if *gasp* they were actually using cruiser size blasters, I would've gone for the ships, since w/ cruiser size weaps their tanks wouldve been mediocre and their guns would've been doing more of the damage.

Thanks for the tips. If I recall, I put the small laser on since that was the only thing that would fit when I had 3 heavies plus the Nos and everything else installed. In addition, I figured it would be useful to hit either drones or frigs if necessary.
Is there any benefit to using 3 heavy lasers and 2 Nos? I wonder if having a 2nd Nos would have allowed me to shut an enemy down faster.

Heavy drone + focused pulse2 + web = "pop". Plus not too many frigs/ceptors want to get within web/nos/optimal gun range of a Zealot. A single frig size gun is not imo going to prove much of a use or deterent against drones or frigs. Equiping a 2nd nos to the ship sorta goes against the grain. You are sacrificing too much offensive dps (25% in losing one gun) in fitting. If you want to go that route better to get a "Sucriledge", fit dual nos/launchers and slowly wear him down while outtanking him. The quickest way to shut down an enemy w/ this ship is damage.

Okies, so I'm confused as to why the 1600 plate is so popular on this ship... I mean, I've only owned my Zealot about 2 hours, but the setup I'm currently experimenting with is:
4 Focused Medium Pulse II, 1 Medium NOS II,
1 20k Warp Disruptor, 1 AB II, 1 Medium Cap Booster - 400 Charges,
1 Medium Armor Repper II, 1 Damage Control II, 1 Thermal Hardner II, 3 Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II, 1 Heat Sink II.
Seems to work well enough, but I'm suffering a lack of damage output. Also, the Conflagration crystals really suffer from tracking issues... Meh :) I'll keep playing :)

what zealot lacks in turrets it makes up for in low's for dmg mods, fit more HSs if you dont like your dps, 3 EANMs is virtually useless anyway, bigger guns imo.
