I hate to be the bringer of bad news but so be it ....
The RIAA have moved against Warcraft movies made by players for using copyrighted music in the movies.
What will this mean for EVE videos? surely RIAA just found a new cashcow and ordanary people to annoy (which is their sole exsistence) - with the DMCA in their hand they are now moving against fanmade computer game movies.
P.S. CCP themselves are hosting some infringing movies, please be advised as I'd hate for RIAA to have an actualy company to sue or threaten etc.
(EDIT) Added link to the warcraft movie site closed by RIAA RPG Films

If it gets to the point where we can't use commercial music in EVE videos, I will personally sing for a soundtrack to every video made. __________________

Just have a Canadian host your movie. Canadian servers are out of the RIAA's reach.

I'm sorry to have to enlighten you.. but Iceland is not a state in the United States of RIAA^H^H^H^HAmerica.
It's a small island country in the northern sea. As far as I know, the DMCA isn't valid in Europe.
Of course, there'll be other means of pusshing copyright legislation on people who make the movies. But I still want to clear this little misunderstanding about Iceland being a state in America.. *cough*

Actually all countries have RIAA clones who see RIAA as the ³ber jerks.
So no - wont help unless it's proven by court that they have no case.

I know CCP is in Iceland, I know DMCA is an american law (I'm danish) BUT copyright infringement is a common law in most of the western world.
I'll bet you that there's an icelandic recording association and Iceland have copyright laws.
The only 'advantage' of the DMCA is that it's so broad they can call 'us' terrorists for using the movies - regardless of DMCA it's copyright Żnfringements.

Well it would be seriously stupid from the RIAA (well I guess that won't stop them :) because there are probably tons of people playing EVE who bought Nightwish CDs because of EVE Movies :D.

How can these bosses be so horrible and bored in their pointless company's existance, as to actually sue people for using music in videos people record of their games to show their friends. ------------------------------

Yup Sweden, however I have good relations to the Swedish equivalence of RIAA (called IFPI) so I would most likely get to know from them first, but I seriously doubt that they will bother unless you start using Swedish artists, so more likely that RIAA talks to me or my ISP if so.
But I guess we will see, I will keep you updated on the matter if I find out anything worth telling.

the entire thing is just foney, the letter they got from RIAA was (by a offical on RIAA) fake.
Riaa never closed them down.
Love internet and all the rumors, here is a quote:
Quote: "RIAA Director of Communications Jenni Engebretsen sez, "The RIAA has not initiated any communication or legal action against RPG Films. It appears as though someone may have found and copied an old RIAA notice and filled it in with RPG Film web site information -- regardless, the link included in this posting is not an authentic RIAA notice."
And here is even the link: http://www.boingboing.net/2005/07/27/riaa_we_didnt_take_d.html
