What exactly constitutes a subscriber? If a pay for 3 accounts am I 3 subscribers? If so what is the number of actual paying players excluding their alt accounts? Is PLEX figured into those numbers? |

You would be a subscriber with 3 active accounts. They count it by active accounts, as does every other company. Accounts paid with PLEX would be figured in to those numbers as they would show as active.
Apparently booking your flight & accomodation to Iceland BEFORE you buy the tickets for the convention which is pretty much the only reason you wanted to go there in the first place is popular. |

500k subscribers (individual humans), or 500k paid accounts? There's QUITE a bit of difference between the two when it comes to EVE. Not in terms of income CCP gets from subs, but from the standpoint of the size and quality of game's actual population.
For most MMOs, this question is meaningless, as 95%+ of the player base only has one account. Very few would have two. But in in this game, it's not uncommon to have 3-6 accounts, it's kinda important. |

The best guesstimates anyone has been able to offer is ~2 accounts per person, but that was eons ago and good luck not just finding the thread, but finding any of the data that is still relevant today.
And anyway, it doesn't make much difference. They've always counted accounts, with PCUs as a secondary measure of activity. Both are up. You'd have to perform some pretty impressive mental gymnastics to turn it into something bad.

Not uncommon to to have in between 10 and 100 accounts, should we say.
Indeed, while the top 500K number is a good number, and props for this, I'd be interested to know the % of each type of player from said number.
% of single account, double, 1 to 5, 5 to 10, 10 to 30, 30 to 70 and above. This would be interesting to know.

500k subscriptions, not subscribers is an important factual distinction.
However, it still means 500k subscriptions worth of irl spacebux, which is really the key point. The only difference being that when Eve actually does die, it's gonna die quickly and with finality as they lose multiple subscriptions for each actual human that stops playing. A good incentive to keep that train chugging and numbers climbing. |

It would be incredibly easy for CCP to release the TQ and the Chinese numbers separately, and we could get a real picture of how TQ is doing.
Given how this forum caters to the TQ crowd, I find it interesting that CCP does not provide the TQ only numbers.
The other thing they could do is see how many unique IP's are represented, and if that number is growing or shrinking.
It is by no means a perfect counter, of course, given some ISP's provide randomized IP's, but it might be a start to see if the subscriber base is narrowing or broadening.
