I think that this problem is to do with information received from the server. Some corp mates and I accidentally podded a member of a friendly corp because he showed up as nuetral standing instead of +10 and when using the show info command, as being a member of a noob corp in a shuttle instead of an interceptor. Its nice to see flashing red gates as well, most of the time tabbing overview off and on again solves most of problems but usually atleast couple persons in gang are left with frong status.

"There are no bugs in EVE"

Serious question for CCP though... Do your servers actually log anything?
Amazing how quick they can get some things fixed amazing how they can never resolve others

So simple to solve, make the scanner settings exacly oposide to what they are now. We should whoose what we WANT to see using the settings, NOT choose what to exclude. As it stands, Its not possible to remove the neutrals of the scanner and its not possible to try to clean up the overfilled scanner because it also might remove possible wartargets. How stupid is that that for example if you choose not to see people with bountys, you remove EVERYBODY with a bounty, including wartargets.
Life would be so much easyer on players and GMs if the scanner would be inversed.
When in empire, I want to option to ONLY see wartargets on the scanner. Then the scanner can do f*** all it wants to the displaying of the names. No matter what colour, I know I can shoot.

That's exactly what we need and just what I was going to suggest. The filters work OK, so I can change my overview so that people my corp is friendly to don't show (they don't work 100%, but it's usually around 98% reliable). So, if I could filter it so that only war targets appear on my overview, then I wouldn't give a damn if they were flashing red or not, I'd know that I could legitimately shoot them just because they're there.
In the upcoming KIA video, there's loads of examples of this overview bug happening. And it's not in busy systems, they're systems with around 15-20 people.
I realise that this issue is intermitent. Even though it happens a lot, it's not easily reproducable (can any of you give the bughunters definite steps to reproduce the bug?). This makes it very difficult to track down what's causing the issue, never mind fix it. Though I'm sure that CCP do have someone looking at this horrible bug, don't they....

The overview bug exists.
Corpies and gangmembers show up as enemies or neutrals all the time. Though only stupid people only decide whether to shoot someone if only the colour is the same, there is still the name and the tag that are still telling you he's friendly.

Shooting gangmembers and corpmates is not a problem for most people. All of mine would forgive me a few wolleys any day. They shouldnt even be showing in you overview anyway.
Getting instakilled by Concord for shooting at a non war target, because of a display bug, IS a problem.
And when fighting alliances that have way to many small corps in them, its just not possible to memorize all the different enemy tickers, besides it changes from week to week.

Originally by: Tbone try this bug i submitted. i got denied my ship also this screenshot was what i took after i warped to gate when i seen local was all friendlies. didnt know they were even in system. No Local
exactly the same thing happened some weeks ago to me in ROIR. Local showed some 12-15 people just 1 enemy and I scanned the frig at the gate. warped in at 60 killed it with my fleet tempest. Suddendly some 8 enemys come out of warp and gank me. (and they definantly didn't log in or enter local).
The local just didn't show the enemys. CCP said bad luck. I should have frapsed it but I thought it wouldn't be worth it for one frig...
PS: and obviously I had known there were that many enemys I would have done more scouting and called for backup.

I know that all im gonna get is "we wish you a speedy recovery".
maybe they should look at their server logs for bugs because they never seem to see the problem.
yeah the overview is f*cking bugged.

The shifting colours are both annoying and dangerous.
Partial workaround is to have your overview set up to show background colours for war targets only (i.e. drop the green background for corp members, purple for gang members etc).
I currently have a red background show for war targets and then differentiate between neutrals and corp members by using the icon.

The GMs do not recognise player submitted evidence to reimbursement petitions. They go by their logs and their logs only, which are inadequate at best and down right crap most of the time

I've seen stargates with bounties on their heads.
CCP know the bug exists, but they don't know how to fix it, therefore they won't ever acknowledge it or give any kind of reply. If they stay out of the threads, they can pretend they didn't read them, thus not knowing about the bug.
It's that simple.

This is indeed a highly annoying and dangerous bug. It seems worse on some days and better on other days.
I have a feeling that it has to do with the graphics not updating properly. As an example I have often seen a corp member on the overview display correctly and then when I jump into another system, the first random guy occupying the same place on the overview will show as a corp member also.
I have of course turned off corp members and allies in the overview.
For me at least it is only the overview that is bugged. What I can see in space is always correct.
I can't see how this bug can be difficult to fix. |

Being able to see your corpies, friendlies and gangmembers on your overview can be very usefull while fighting in small/medium encounters or when using smartbombs in 0.0 fighting.
By the way do your buddies forgive you as well if you accidently open fire in a laggy or messy fight resulting in the loss of their ship?
Or how about putting EW or scramblers on them by accident, resulting in your side losing the battle?
I agree though that checking for corptags and names is a bit hard for wars with alliances alliances involved.

The bug/incident in question wasnt soley overview related, on the main screen it also showed as neutral and named tempest. It was all caught on fraps and with the additon of the kill mail itself with entirely friendly corps listed Id be extremely disapointed in CCP if they didnt reimburse this.

This bug is frigging retarded. No amount of closing and opening my overview will ever get it 100% accurate. But small colour tags (on the icon) and the in space square seem to be accurate. So I ignore the background colour now as it is wrong most of the time.
Filed two bug reports because of this bug.
