Now I know that the current stacking bug is gonna be fixed soon and I am glad it will. Tho even with the bug fixed, switching frequency crystals can be a pain. If you do it too fast, the turrets will 'steal' the crystals from each other, resulting in one or more of them not doing the switch you want them to. You then have to click 'Reload' so the left out turrets get what they should have. And by then at least 10 seconds of the fight have passed. Valueable seconds that I just wasted to babysit my turrets.
My suggestion is that CCP introduces a way to group modules so switching ammo can be done easier. Two or more turrets could be combined to a group. When right-clicking the group icon you could order them to switch crystal/ammo simultaneously. Here a draft from photoshop:
Right-clicking on the little (1) would allow to change crystals of the first two turrets. Right-clicking on the little (2) would allow to change crystals of the other two turrets. Maybe by left-clicking on them you could also activate them which would also help. (Not having to go through F1-F8 like on a piano.)
This addition would probably be just as useful for hybrids, projectiles and missiles. While it would most likely add most convenience to the laser users since they have to switch crystals very often.
I hope CCP will give this thought a try when they play around with frequency crystals to fix the stacking bug.
_____ Another change which is just eye-candy really would be to remove the 'amount indicator' from mounted frequency crystals. You can't have more than one in your turret anyway and it would look nicer.
Maybe this is easy to do. If not, forget it.
Comments on my suggestion are welcome!

Wouldn't hurt to be able to activate all your modules with fewer keypresses too, particularly as I don't seem to be able to get Eve to recognise more than two keypresses at once, and screenshots look a lot nicer when you can get all of your turrets firing in unison :P

Implementation detail: weapons of the exact same type can in the modules section of the HUD be dragged on top of each other. This essentially treats all turrets/launchers in the stack as the same for the purposes of reloading and firing. A second numerical indicator above the ammo count (or to one side of the icon) denotes the number of weapons in the stack.

the problem is - without grouping, you would not be able to do this across weapon type (i.e. typhoon 4 missile/4 turret).
another nice thing (not laser specific but for all weapon) would be to have a setting where the weapons would begin firing again as soon as they are reloaded/have ammo switch.
this benefit ammo'd weapon more, but even with crystals it would be nice if the thing started firing as soon as it was done being switched. -- Thread Killer (attempting to train verbosity from 4 back down to 1) <END TRANSMISSION> |

I would like to see this happening with other modules too. For example: F1 = Group1 = Turrets + Hardeners F2 = Group2 = Turrets F3 = Group3 = Hardeners ... Groups and hotkeys adjustable of course.

Edited by: Nomen Nescio on 12/09/2005 20:50:12 Could be pain to implement to be honest. Not only you have to create UI for group selection and modification. But also you have to check if the guns in the group are actually using same type of ammo so you can in fact call "change for group" and if not what you gonna do with that? Plus you need to notify the pilot and get his feedback about all this small issues.
How about "change ammo for all guns". just for now? Any gun -> right click -> list of ammo -> on left a submenu appears "change for all". Then you just go through f1- f8 and try to reload to the type, if the gun uses different type of ammo, or no ammo left action is skiped.
But signed anyway.

Edited by: Lyticus on 24/09/2005 13:56:02 This should have been in the game since the EXODUS patch which overhauled the HUD. Especially with lasers, our falloff is such absolute crap that I need to change crystals every 5km to continue to hit my enemy, and when the turrets 'steal' crystals from one another, it just makes it more difficult.

I can see the benefit of reloading, and switching crystals, but for activation of turrets, I'd still use f1, f2, f3, etc... Especially for stacked Hardeners/Repairers. If you activate all modules at once, your Cap will drop faster than recharge could follow, and on a perfect Apoc (Cap-use wise), that's the about the same, as signing your own death warrent. It's all about evening out your cap-use pr/sec, to match your recharge pr/sec, and 3 hardeners going off simultaneously couldbring your Cap below those critical 30%...
I like the reload/swith ammo idea though, so; Signed. (as long as the individual f-keys works the same)

I agree with your points, and there are, no forseable drawbacks from this change, it just makes life easyer for anyone with more than one weapon.. I think pretty much anyone using lasers right now would agree with you.. Its a big pain, being amarian, how it feels, trying to switch serveral crystals at one, and knowing 2 of them will not work.. Its not very effient.

What if we just prohibit all ammo changes except in station? This would go for hybrids and projectile users too. All you can do is reload and hope for the best.

That indeed is a worse idea. Weapons with high falloff would benefit much more from this because they don't have to switch that often.
But you're welcome to start your own thread about this. Tho, I will not sign that.

why dont make the refitting of crystals like the reloading of ammunition...i can change ammo while in battle...it lasts 10 seconds but i can choose between different ammotypes which are available in my cargo hold. if ammo is already processed into the gun its not shown in the change ammo drop down menu...why ccp didnt make it similar for crystals...at least crystals are actually a kind of ammo. would someone be so kind explaining me how the stuff with crystals works ? i thot: if u got say 3 crystals in ur hold u can change 3 guns crystals...the fourth gun wouldnt show the crystal u just began to change...

Comments on my suggestion are welcome!
as far as i know ccp wanted to make crystals to wear out by use. so why dont replace the number with a "100%" crystal integrety indicator so u can see how many per cent of ur crystal are already used and how long it will last util u got to replace the worn out crystal (--> for mining crystals aswell)...like 0.001 percent crystal integrety loss per shot or somert...it would make crystals more ammo-like and make it easier to change crystals like ammuniton than the whole "replace one crystal after the other" way.

as far as i know ccp wanted to make crystals to wear out by use. so why dont replace the number with a "100%" crystal integrety indicator so u can see how many per cent of ur crystal are already used and how long it will last util u got to replace the worn out crystal
That's a nice idea actually for the t2 and faction crystals.

being able to qeue a reload would be great too.. while were on the topic.
If i could qeue a reload and stop the weapon =/ (weapon stops and reloads). or even active reloading... (aka weapon is still 'green' /hot and reloads/ starts firing + you should be able to kill it and make it 'red' mid reload if you decide to stop attacking)
I think it would make combat far.. smoother?

And I also agree with the "show crystal damage percent instead of 1" suggestion a few posts above mine.

Originally by: Forsch Now I know that the current stacking bug is gonna be fixed soon and I am glad it will.
First of all, great idea. Second, if you stack them in your cargo bay, you can right click -> pick crystal switch all laser turrets in some seconds without worrying about some not having the right crystals.

Honestly this is a HUGE issue for crystal users.
This is like telling Matari that they get great Alpha-Strike, and then the game only allowing them to activate each gun one at a time every five seconds.
Yes, its that idiotic.

This thread hungers for braaaaaains.
But also /signed, so long as other turrets can group to switch ammo. (keep the 10s reload, of course)

reload all doesnt help laser users at all if crystals arent stacked you'll still get them stealing from each other which is mainly a problem with t2 crystals as you can actually stack t1 :\
