wonder who tricky it would be to ahve a 4th type of slot that would allow you to put on mods that add differnt obejcts onto your ship model, like
A Radar dish
Spikes Fins or Blades
A Visual Drone Bay
Additonal thrusters or extra wings
That add nothing to the ship stats , are complete a visual thing. To allow people to customise thier ship, the alrge the ship the more 4th type mod slots ou can put stuff in
Have std tech1 stuff and rare faction dropped mods that can make your ship look more piratish.
create a whole new market for peolpe to custiomse thier ship without doing anything to game balence

Mmm, extra spikes on an incursus, me like. Maybe later on they could add to the degree of how you bump someone. You know instead of just makin em wabble you could set them back a couple meters.

I'd like to see a Parrot drone, orbits your ship and repeats random words (or the ending of your sentences) from whatever you say in local. Looks like a parrot, flapping its wings, within a plastic bubble when you zoom in.

been brought up before, cept for the slot part, which is real cool, some ships have visibile drone bays though (mammoth, dunno y)(typhoon). would look real weird but yes its cool ;p and add the damn ship paint in PLEASE! no they said it wont cause lag so dont say anything bout that

if you look at tech2 ships they have fixed bling slots
you can see when you warp they disspear at a differnt rate to the rest of the ship, so they are just a tacked on model.

Its a nice idea but has the same problem as other ideas for ship customizations: LAG. As in, this idea will increase the bandwidth, hence cause more LAG.
However, the lag problem could be solved if you had a option not to see the ship customizations (bling slots, pain jobs, etc). That way, normal people flying in empire space with 24mbit connections (like me) could see all ship customizations, while those who do lots of fleet combat or use a modem could have it turned off.

The only thing cool about this idea is the name "Bling".
Firstly, I don't want more lag on the servers, why waste bandwidth on this. At least if this is done allow us who want frames and server connection to be able to switch this off.
Secondly, I've tried Guild Wars and half the community there wants to be black, so everybody goes around paying obscene amounts for the color "black". I see some variation of that happening to EVE. So why spend time doing this if half of the people here are going to look the same anyway.
Thirdly, I want other activities in EVE. I don't want to waste my money on the programmers spending their time making a Tempest look green for gods sake! It's about time CCP spend some time finding long term activities for us old timers in EVE who have done just about everything, instead of pushing us out of the way to make cuddle programming for the noob. Enough already, get on with the show.

It was a decisive battle let me tell you. Last friday The Low Roiders took 7 Faction Vigilants with Estariol 400mm Low Suspension kits up against the TOC's POS. Little did they know TOC had the evening before replaced their 4 Large Turret Batteries with a Neon Pink Shield Enhancer. All 7 pilots had their retinas fried instantly and were easy pickings for a TOC's late night task force of ostentatiously miscolored interceptors with the notorious Fuscia Magnate in lead.

If you've played EVE for any amount of time, you should know about the lag that happens just before any station/belt or gate is reached. This is caused by recieving transmissions from the server of which objects are there and by your graphics card cashing textures in its memory for display. Increase the number of textures and you increase the lag.
Now tell me again I don't know anything about this!

There was a devblog where they actually went through some of the things that were causing lag and they were hence optimizing as they go along.
They actually stated models and textures are were one of the least issues that caused lag. Oh and btw lag caused from models actually is on the part of your computer loading the models, NOT the servers.

yes and they've done nothing about it. They've even been suggested cashing while the ship is in warp which would optimize the arrival.

Well, that would depend on how many mods in Bling-slots there would be. I agree that it is mainly caused by texture loading on the client side, but since my system is topnotch and every other player I know personally complains about this I suspect that it is not fixed yet.
I'm all for Bling-slots if they cause absolutely no lag. But since CCP still discurrage anchored cans at gates, I suspect that the lag hasn't been resolved yet.

i think it would be a great idea. If nothing it would stop all ships looking identical.
Being able to strap an extra couple of engines on the side or maybe some cool fins and wings.
it would have to be done tactfuly though, we dont want the future of space travel to look like some kind of boy racers holiday camp. IE, make the "bling" more about adding some customisation rather than allowing people to look like ****s.
obviously any such feature must allow people to turn it off to save thier pocessing time/bandwidth should they need to.

The "Bling" slot has been suggested before (although not with that name)
Its an idea I like....
Ideas for Bling Slot:
FUZZY DICE: You have installed stylish Fuzzy Dice in your pod. Your sense of style impresses agents, adding 5% to isk payment from agents.
PIMP LIGHTS: You have installed Pimp Lights on your ship. The glarring tacky bad taste reduces the signature of your ship by 5% (Hostile targeting computers dont want to even look at you, let alone lock you....)
HAIRY CO-PILOT: You have an extremely hairy co-pilot. This means you are uber in all ways. 5% bonus to speed, agility, armor, and all turret and missile damage.

May I suggest that any "bling" mods use the advanced materials and moon minerals. Since CCP increased POS output and there is a rather large surplus of minerals and components.
Platinum and Chromium plating heat shields 4tw.
On a more serious note I am sure the game needs development in other areas that reduce lag.

Abso-freakin-lutely hilarious! A set of bling slots would be funny as all hell.
But seriously it could be a fun idea to have 'custom slots' or something. Have the option to swap stuff like fin/wing types or colours. Like they've done with the T2 ship models over the originals. The bigger the ship class, the more custom slots it could have. Like the turrets do currently, it wouldn't be seen unless someone did a Look At so serverload lag wouldn't be out the window. |

I'm against this, purely as alot of the "suggestions" only apply to real life vehicals and not space ships, and that it will also ruin the style that eve has.
HOWEVER
Rather than having full paintjobs, I'd like to see some sort of ability to add a decal to your ship, possibly something like a personal or corp logo, so that the ships dont all look exactly the same.
Some of the caldari vessels have the caldari symbols on them, as do some of the concord vessels, it would be nice if we could add our own, perhaps make them contructable like corp logo's are.

I like this idea. It certinly would add too the game. Decals and paint I think would be particularly nice and something I would use. I think it would give me a greater sense of ownership of whatever ship I am flying. Since I use look at frequently, it would give some depth and individuality to others.

the sticker/logo part is easily fixed with putting them in client side as part of a patch when they patch the client.
why not add a logo/sticker spot on the ships and have a option of adding one to a ship.
for example a alliance logo, the alliance you are a member of or just one of the 200 different other logos (including the "Type-R" one).
if you repackage the ship you loose the logo and must buy a new one when you have unpackaged the ship for 5% of ships base value or something like it.
