Hello.
Seeing all the serious posts out there, i thought why not start a more relaxed one. How about we should post a possible name for the soon to come T2 BS.
Each race has its ships named using a... "pattern"
Caldari: mainly Birds (though i dont know whats a Caracal)
Minmatar: nature related (things like Rifter, Rupture, Cyclone but also Wolf, Jaguar, etc)
Amarr: Religion / Theology
Gallente: Mythological
This being said i'll put in my first guesses
Caldari T2 BS: Vulture Minmatar T2 BS: Hurricane Gallente T2 BS: Neptune
Please dont flame if you dont like the ideea of this post. But if you do, think of a name and post it here.
Thanks.

Surely "Storm" is the obvious choice there? :P Could also throw in Simoon and Khamsin as interesting contenders. Similarly for "Birds", are any of the following used: Wyvern, Peregrine, Raptor, Griffin, Vulture and Roc? Not up on my Caldari names really. And yes, I am getting both of those sets from a list :)
As for a new high-end Amarr ship, I'm all for the "Imperial Navy Carnage-class Battleship". Well, that or "Prophet", which as a flagship/fleet command vessel kinda fits, although it rather clashes with the existing proph. Do we have a "Templar" yet?

First off... what's this obsession with pink ships? Would you like a fruit basket with that?
Some of the T2 BS already have images... both the Gallente ones are basically red. The Megathron has a Deimos style reddish camo w/ dayglow green headlights and the Dominix is a kind of blackish-reddish thing... And even the Amarr finally get a monolith black Apoc...
Anyway, I'll only conjecture on the Gallente names as I've looked into them more...
T2 Mega - Phobos (largest moon of Mars - the other smaller one being Deimos, also Enyo [The Goddess of War and Strife], Deimos [God of Fear] and Phobos [God of Panic] are all children of Ares, the Greek God of War)
T2 Domi - Tiamat, Rimmon or Marduk (Baal) seems most likely to me (or something related to Mesopotamian myth and legend, it's really anyone's guess - http://fullmoon_deities.tripod.com/mesopotamian.html - I really like the Ishtar description there) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually, that should probably be saved for titans...

Yes, if you use Google or Wikipedia you can figure out what a Caracal is. It is also called a desert lynx or African lynx.
I think the reason it was included in the Caldari raptor names is: the caracal is known for catching birds that are in flight.

It is more a case of culture.
Amarr: Ancient northern african and middle eastern. The craddle of christianity. Note that since Amarr are highly religious, they are also highly unlikely to name their ships after some other pantheonic god.
Caldari: Mostly american and their tendency to name ships after "strong" (flying) animals. Mythical beasts from greek mythology belongs here - call it a heretige from their time in Gallente Federation.
Gallente: Ancient greece, rome, and the barbaric tribes of that time. This also possibly includes astrological/nomical names such as "Nebula", although it might seem a bit more Jovian.
Mimatar: Norse as well as seafaring. Also ground living mamals. --

for minmatar bs (and ships in general) - norse related mythology already there a lot.
as have been pointed out to me by someone who knows such things (sure he will come along soon), it only make sense that the t2 tempest will be called:
-- Huginn (brother or somesuch of Muninn), though perhaps Odin is more appropiate
of course the t2 Phoon could be called:
-- Hurricane (as have been mentioned) -- Landslide... -- Potato Gun -- Grizzly/Hyhena/Mastiff/Crockodile/Alligator
dunno - imagine that the t2 phoon will be more fun to fly though...

Seeing as that the Minmatar Tempest is a variation of the Roman Godess of Storms/Wind Tempestates, I think that the T2 BS should have a name from similar origins.
Minmatar T2 BS: Zephyr (short for Zephyros - Greek god of the West Wind)

Gallente: Megathron -> Atropos, Dominix -> Thea (Atropos, the one of the three greek Fates who cuts the strings of life. Thea, the wife and brother of Hyperion, mother of Helios, Eos, and Selene - aswell as the troop of monkeys known as "Cercopes" (no pun intended))
Minmatar: Tempest -> Katana, Typhoon -> Jormungand (Katana, single edged sword. Jormungand, Norse mythological serpent, lies coiled around the world)
Amarr: Apocalypse -> Exegesis, Armageddon -> Sicarii (Exegesis, the science of textual interpretation, specifically refering to a bible text. Sicarii, a group of zealots involved in political assassination of various groups)
Caldari: Raven -> Anka/Roc/Phoenix, Scorpion -> Hydra (Anka - arctic mythological bird resembling a Phoenix (burn, rebirth). Roc, mythological giant bird - as the Anka this was told to fly off with elephants :P)) ________________________________________ <insert clever/witty comment here>

t2-ship names come from the use or myth form from their t1 version (eg. stabber, someone who stabs = vagabond; rupture, who causes ruptures = munnin).
So pretty please sugar on top dont name t2 tempest/typhoon something like storm, gust, squall, hurricane or the like!
some suggestions I like are Mealstrom for the typhoon (inverted typhoon in the water, lets hope the t2 phoon is the same: an inversion to a great ship ) Jormungand also, and zephyr.
Oh and btw: Hyperion is already in use by concord, they have a bs named Hyperion.

I saw a few really good names for the Gal T2 ships. Of them the ones I liked the most are:
Megathron: Leviathan or Kraken
An Assault Megathron would be a monster which these names reflect.
Domi: Tiamat or Hydra
Both names reflect a creature with multiple heads that attack, something very similar to what drones do.
OR
Megathron: Mega Foot (it looks like a big foot) Domi: Mega **** (looks like it doesn't it?)

Amarr: Scion (Armageddon), Wrath (Apocalypse) Caldari: Chimaera (Raven), Vulture (Scorpion) Gallente: Titan (Megathron), ??? (Dominix) Minmatar: Tornado (Tempest), Cyclone (Typhoon)
Couldn't think of a good "Mythilogical" type name for the Dominix

Raven to Vulture seems feasible, altho if it's going to be some uber badass missile BS, maybe Falcon or something like that? Roc works. Bid name for a big ship.

Thanks.
Cerberus is a kinda of Dog (mythological) with many heads but other than that the pattern is there. Exceptions only verify the "rule" .

wtf you all talking about :P Don't you know yet?? T2 BS have been put back to the drawing board...the very first stage of development. You can wait a loooooong time before they will be real. They are now in the same catagory as system wide asteroid fields and comet mining.
quote from drawing board:
Quote: We just have to decide now what roles they should have that make sense ... Moved back to Drawingboard for now in favor of other features for next major release (Like Combat Revisited, the possible Drone Revisited and the new NPC Revisited)
linkie to drawing board:
http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/plannedfeat.asp
you might wanna read the info that is on top of the drawing board. Gives you a clue how long it's gonna take.
srry to disappoint you :P

Khanid name their ships Anti-Religiously, with such examples as the Malediction and Sacrilege. The Khanid-Apoc would be the ultimate of this like, thus be the ultimate anti-religious ideal, or "Blasphemy" http://www.huzzah-federation.com/ |

I'm surprised no one has considered the fact that some of these Amarrian ships may be named in a fashion that represents just how DIFFERENT they are from their original counterparts. Case in point: "Sacriledge" A ship that completely disobeys the conventional Amarrian way of thinking and is thus aptly named. As we've seen, it also is being punished for it's heretical ways. Also the "Anathema" which basically means "The cursed one" or "One who is reviled". With the Amarr, we always get one from Carthage or Vizam, which is Pro-Amarrian, and we get one from Khanid, which is usually more Caldari, and is named as such (Malediction, ect). I read earlier in this thread that the Apoc will be black. As an Amarr I can only hope that our T2 battleship does not wind up another b@$t@rd child of Caldari-Amarrian technological blending which results in a ship unusable by both races. If this is the case, it will undoubtly be named "Heretic".
Amarrian: Execration, Blasphemy, Heretic, Abomination, Desecration / Holocaust (Will not be used for politically correct reasons), Annihilator(tion), Paladin, Seraphim (although having such an ugly ship named Seraphim...), Pontifex, Sanctity
Archon is better suited for the Gallente, as it's originally Greek, but personally I don't care what the other ships are called. :P
Caldari: Albatross, Phoenix, Roc Gallente: Archon Minmitar: Maelstrom
Bah, Xardrix posted his while I was typing!

Paladin/Inquisitor for the Amarr variant and Heretic for the Khanid variant would be a nice balance.
