The only thing I'm "upset" about is CCP wanting to institute Communist ideals of wealth distribution in a game based on the concept of Capitalistic free market values. still haven't pointed out why people are getting so upset about a picture in a presentation. i must admit i missed said presentation because i was having dinner with my father. however unless he ran around screaming that the jews are causing all the isk faucets or something i'm honestly not seeing why people are so upset.

I'm all for a good-natured barb here and there, but IMHO Dr. Gu+¦mundsson, the head E.v.e. economist (or whoever made his powerpoint section) went too far this year:

The section in question involved the discussion of a transaction tax meant to curb what is seen as an increasing wealth disparity in EVE (which I admit is very much a growing issue); while not outright mentioning them by name, the good Dr. very clearly hinted at the presence of the so-called "Jewbal" which colludes to accumulate wealth for themselves and the "Goonswarm" alliance. One can very easily see the parallel between the name this group gave themselves in good humor (they're mostly Jewish in real life, if I recall correctly) and the racial caricature of a Jewish man used in the powerpoint presentation today; I personally have to take real issue with the demonizing of an entire IRL religio-cultural group for the sake of some cheap laughs (to the E.v.e. community's credit, none were had that I noticed while watching the stream).

Luckily CCP Anal took over the talk before any other tragic guffaws were made...

Typical anti-semetic sentiment, shrugging off the Holocaust by saying "get over people have died throughout history". I'm not saying killing hasn't been a part of history for...forever, but just because death has been around since the beginning doesn't diminish the scope and scale of the atrocities committed on the Jews, nor the reasons why, nor the scope/scale and absolute generational impact it had/has and will continue to have.

6+ million were wiped out in Europe, 2 out of every 3 European Jews was killed.

For the record, the number of Jews in the world still has not fully recovered, there are still only ~14 mil jews worldwide today... so the effects of the Holocaust (and yes the Russian purges) are still being felt.

Not really. Stereotypes are often not based in reality, but in perception.

And what is reality? It is the perception of the world around us. While stereotyping a person you just met is bad, there can in a good number of cases be a base for any stereotype that is actually considered a stereotype. If there wasn't then people wouldn't consider it a stereotype.

Picture that used be used for vilifying Jewish merchants a long time ago used in economics lecture.

It's used in modern political science lectures a lot as well for various reasons. Mostly to laugh at guys who think it's something more than propaganda gone silly.
