[1] We really need a combat damage window similar to a chat window that we can scroll through and see what really happened with the ability to log the output. The way it is now I can barely tell what's going on since all of my weapons' damage output gets overlapped in the single "popup" style window. A lot of time I get shot and have no idea what kind of damage I'm taking etc. etc. This window also needs to include damage type like what kind of weapon was used against you and what kind of damage it hit you for and vice versa. ------------------------------------------------ "The best defense is a dead opponent." - Avaton White "The very notion of adding new features to broken code is self defeating to the point of being borderline insane." - Par'Nabuk ------------------------------------------------ |

[3] Edited by: Indigo Seqi on 03/08/2003 16:14:56 I so deeply agree they need to revamps that window, I think I'll just keep bumping this until they give in :) Although it wouldn't be right if people would know exactly what weapon was being fired on them and which ammo is in it. |

[7] Good point Indigo Seqi. I agree that the weapon and ammo shouldn't be displayed but at least display the damage type. [9] Look at the bottom icon on the Neocom "log", it shows just this kind of thing and you can select all/copy and then paste it elsewhere. However, it can have a bug where it just repeatedly shows one line at the top, refreshed for every hit. Also, an option to log this to a *file* for later perusing without having to faff with copy/paste would be VERY VERY VERY good. I've a script I run against such output to find average dmg/hit for weapons and it'd help a lot gathering that data -Ath -- http://big.wayland.dk/Lottery.asp - The BIG Lottery |

[21] I find that one of the problems with the current damage log is that if several of your guns go off at the same time, only one is recorded. Really irritating. Elaron CEO E.S.M.C. It is never too late to correct the mistakes of the past. |

[27] Hey cool! Thanks for the tip about docking the log window in the chat window. That's pretty close to what I wanted. Now if it just reported the damage type and didn't go bonkers and erase it's entire contents sometimes it would be exactly what I need. ------------------------------------------------ "The best defense is a dead opponent." - Avaton White "The very notion of adding new features to broken code is self defeating to the point of being borderline insane." - Par'Nabuk ------------------------------------------------ |

[35] The other problem with the log window is that it can quite often lead to a LOT of lag when it trieds to update (for me, at least). As for the damage type being done, just watch the weapons. They change color based on what ammo type is being used now, so you can tell that way. Besides, its pretty easy to know what damage a given type of weapon does anyhow, missiles are the only real wildcard until you find the name of one that hits you. |

[37] Hybrids do two types of damages, projectiles have many more possibilities. Lasers are limited as well, though have more flexibility than hybrid. How do you tell what type? Now after saying that, i'd like to put in: Having a log window would be very nice, specialized for fighting. Damage types/ranges/specifics should NOT be included with it. Just the current stats, "So and so barely scratches you for 2 damage." Use your head for the rest. The window is a great idea, something small and uncomplicated, perhaps like the journal, which is indexed so you can sort it. (I'm pretty sure) ------------------- Basic truths? Idiots make us rich. - Some people are only alive because it is illegal to kill them. |

[39] Hybrids and Lasers both do 2, kinetic/thermal or EM/thermal. Yes, projectiles are a little more varied, but kinetic is always involved, and there is usually some thermal in there as well (explosive and EM are the main wildcards... though I think there's one that does kin/exp, not sure). So, you KNOW what damage you're up against with lasers/hybrids, and you know that you can do well by defending against at least kinetic against projectile users. So, really, its just the /other/ projectile damage you need to worry about, and the popular one there is EM (EMP, and Photon). So, if you carry any two of kinetic, EM, and thermal hardeners you're pretty good against most attacks, and can be very well off indeed against one of them. |

[41] Ok you guys are missing my point. I know what kind of damage I'm doing. I need to know what kind of damage I'm taking. [42] Please read this CCP!!! And take action on it!!! EVERYBODY WANTS IT! I've wanted this since the first hour of playing EVE!!! It would make SO much sense to have a small window, even if it's just - Angel Legionnaire (1) target locked onto Gang Member 1. - Angel Depredator (1) hit Cypher V for 60 explosion type damage. (Shield depleated.) - Angel Depredator (2) hit Gang Member 1 for 12 explosion type damage. - Gang Member 1 hits Angel Legionnaire (1) for 126 explosion type damage. - *Gang Member 2 warped onto location. - You hit Angel Legionnaire (1) for 75 explosion type damage. - One of Gang Member 1's drones hit Angel Legionnaire (1) for 5.1 kinetic type damage. - *Angel Legoinnaire (1) exploded. *Gang Member 1 [drone] issued final blow. - Gang Member 2 target locked onto Angel Depredator (2). - Gang Member 2 uses 'Langour' Drive Disruptor I on Angel Depredator (2). - etc. Put a couple ideas in there too as you can see :) Maybe have the choice to make it colour coded so as the names and damage and damage type are coloured so it's easier to see the important bits of information you want to see fast. (I tried to do the whole <font color="red"> thing to show you what I meant, but it didn't work, argh.) Black background, or darkened, whatever. A filter to get rid of the bits you don't really want to see, like "*Gang Member 2 warped onto location." and "Gang member 2 used some crazy thing on someone." Hmm, maybe I went overboard... Meh, I still think that it would be a VERY useful tool to have! See you in game!, Dan, A.K.A. Cypher V. ps. Thanks for bringing this up Avaton White! |
