Seriously though, why does it seem like the Industry hates login screens, as a non-EVE example, I recall Guild Wars 2 having a fantastic login screen during beta, only to replace it with logging in via the launcher.
I've always loved EVE's login screens and music, and part of the excitement of a new expansion for me has always been seeing the new one, which is perhaps silly, I'll admit.
To keep it positive, what's been your favourite login screen over the years? |

At least (for now) you can bypass the launcher using exefile.exe, but unlikely that one will remain for a long time...
The SSO login is pretty bad for those that have multiple clients.

It's so bad for multiple clients or if you want to switch characters you have to reopen the launcher each time. The Log Off button was removed. |

Eve's iconic login screens have always made my days logging in a very unique ominous and charismatic depth no other game has matched.
The new launcher login seems dry and uninspired by comparison. Tis' a sad day when the fully animated login screen is rendered obsolete for a "technological improvement" |

Shut up, people. Marketing knows what it's doing. I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Yea I noticed this too, whilst I think logging in from the launcher is a good idea, I didn't think it also warranted removal of the old log off button whilst ingame. Overall the efficiency of the old way vs the new probably isn't that much of a difference, just a matter of adapting to the new. However lets face it, this new method is probably more financial decision since the company no longer has to spend money on making new login screens or composing new login music, call me sentimental. |

I'm rather baffled as why they haven't tried to openly discuss for making it a sidegrade instead, let those watch the screensaver & hear the music if they wanted to, and the rest can directly log to their character screen.
Each expansion needs a theme track, Odyssey is no different.
WarpShade wrote:this new method is probably more financial decision since the company no longer has to spend money on making new login screens or composing new login music Is it that expensive to make new music, or to make a new screensaver?
Eitherway it's worth the cost. I think it's a more ''security'' related thing |

Clearly the character select screen is going to become the new location for awesome screen backgrounds and music.
The news is already moved to the launcher so now they can simply have the new login screen have the pictures of each charater and some minimalist details about them and a "Go" button. The Drake is a Lie |

Oh wait, you mean the launcher i saw on Sisi is live? With no login screen, no log off button and such?
I seriously thought it was broken (all in all, it *broke* my Sisi install), now it has broken my TQ client and is supposed to be like this, without login screen nor log off button?

just found for myself that you can switch chars (inside one account) faster than before: - switch to launcher, press "Launch"
current client will close and you have new select char screen. No need to relogin and all this stuff.
looks like good improvement for me |

What are you all talking about ? The login screen is still here.Go and launch EVE from here: C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\exefile.exe
If you have multiple folders for multiple accounts do the same for each one. I am not sure what's going to happen if there is patch available. You might have to use the launcher to update.

Swithcing to deskotp breaks my keyboard layout and i had the launcher configured to close after laucnhing as otherwise it woulnd't close even after exiting EVE.
And why did they remove the login screen without a warning? Who do they think they are these noob developers, messing with our game like that? The Greater Fool Bar-áis now open for business, 24/7. The main reason I liked the old log off button was it would restart the client automatically and all I had to do was retype the password. Now I multibox 4 clients with ISBoxer and have to change our my PI about every 2 days. The old log off had it so much easier when I changed characters. Now if they add in a switch character button I wouldn't be so eeeeh about this new launcher.

I will miss the old launcher come new expansion.
Something tells me they will kill alternative ways of logging to EVE some summer expansion.
The new launcher is a useless resource hog for us with slower comps that brings NOTHING to the game.

I suppose this new launcher will be better from a technology standpoint in the long term and I understand the reasons for it but, damn, I too will miss the login screen and new theme music with each expansion.
My favorite was Revelations II because that's when I started playing. Hearing the old music brought back pleasant memories from the days when I was a newbie and the Eve universe was huge and full of wonder. I really miss those days now that I've morphed into a jaded vet. What you want is irrelevant, what you've chosen is at hand. |
