I don't mind the change BUT I don't see why we needed to remove the login screen itself.
When you log in on the launcher it should take you to the original animated login screen with a simple "play" button or "press any key to continue" message. That way we can either enjoy the screen or skip it. Remember this. Trust your eyes, you will kill each other. Trust your veins, you can all go home. -Cold Wind |

Well good luck with your other products. Hope you won't repeat same mistakes again.
I know how to fix my settings and stuff and continue playing, thank you. Will I play other CCP games? No! One horrible product is enough.

Since i really started with Retribution it should be Retris login screen :/ I liked th wow(!) effect this login screen had. It just looked so awesome. And now, this wow factor whenever i start the game is gone :(
This sums it up pretty good:

It lost the feeling of: "And now you are going to enter the biggest mmo universe you have ever seen, right after this space station and those asteroids, just one simple login step away".

The amount of atmosphere they added is clearly undervalued by CCP. |

The login screen really helps set the mood, especially for first time players. I started playing during Incarna (and hey look, I'm still here), and I really still miss that particular screen to this day. (Retribution comes second place). The mysterious, moody music; the visuals (RIP Quad Light Beam Sacrilege); I would actually have EVE's login screen running sometimes even when I wasn't playing.
Everything is first impressions. When the first thing you experience is the login screen, your first impression is "oh wow this looks amaaazzinnnggg." When the first thing you see in the launcher, followed by the login screen, it's still "oh wow this looks beautiful." Perhaps not quite as powerful, but you accept it because it's the norm these days, much like credits playing over the top of the first 5 minutes of a movie.
When the first thing you see is the launcher, followed by UI, followed by character stuff, followed by more UI, and then you're suddenly dropped into the game? It's a disjointed experience that leaves you wondering what you just logged into. Core Skills - train em up train em up! |

CCP Explorer wrote: ... The login screen is very much a one-off custom-made window. In addition work is under way to move the login into the launcher and to get rid of the login screen.
Still, while change was expected, it was totally unexpected that CCP will rush with it before Odyssey, no matter what ("New launcher - yesterday in beta, today on TQ").

My computer at this point is so saturated with Eve material that it hardly matters. In fact I took down the cable wire going to the house the other day and just run things off of the virtual fluid router on this machine.
As for favorite opening, Probably Incursion. That was just creepy and I always wondered what it looked like inside the Sansha station. -áKick ass soundtrack and Eve Pewpew http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvc4KljpRGI |

If CCP doesn't cave in here and pull this change, then we have effectively lost the power of voice as a community with them. I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Strongly agree with this. Being tossed from a launcher outside the game into the character selection screeen just cheapens the experience. The login screen set the mood, and change between login screens twice a year helped keep the game feeling fresh. Now, being dumped into character select screen at login totally removes all that from the picture. Major loss to the feel of the experience in entering the game. It has to be impressive, and it was. Now it's just weak and unimpressive.
What's more, with the removal of the Log Off button, EVE went back into 1990s. I'm sorry, but in an MMO with multiple characters, having to exit the game completely just to switch between characters on the same account is INCREDIBLY weak. Look at MMOs from 2004 and even earlier, and they had the ability to log off without exiting, This only exacerbates the many problems EVE has in this general area - like the player's inability to adjust the font, or change the font size in any significant way, and many others. Just makes the game feel really even more outdated than it has to be. |

xarjin wrote:Eve's iconic login screens have always made my days logging in an enjoyable experience. Eve's animated login really offers players very unique ominous and charismatic depth no other game has matched.
The new launcher login seems dry and uninspiring by comparison. Tis' a sad day when the fully animated login screen is rendered obsolete for a "technological improvement"
If you noticed, in the last years at CCP they are working hard at devastating their game, to make it dumb, BAD, to look like a cheap Korean Flash game and to remove useful and even advanced features.
Today the process took a new step to that end.
The only thing that never gets reduced in EvE is the subscription price. That one, no, it won't drop to be like a B class Korean game. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity
