Playing as a dedicated exploration pilot...I have to say this new "exploration" package really blows. I mean...the ship scans the system and reveals all of the exploration sites at 0%, set the ore sites to 100% signal...
So, where's the EXPLORATION part? If, regardless of your skill set you get access to see what the system holds then all of the time spent running up exploration skills is wasted.
Isn't the whole point of exploration is to find **** that cant be readily found?
I swear if CCP dumbs this game down any more... |

People complained that exploration was too complicated.
Now they are complaining it is too dumbed down.

I was happy with it. Now it's almost a "press this button to get the exploration site revealed" |

This is a first step. At this point it's about getting exploration content in the hands of all players, and if that means tearing down some of the barriers to entry for that then so be it. I'm personally alright with that, with one caveat.
They need to keep iterating on this, to introduce different and more challenging encounters and further refine the "exploration" aspect of things. CCP's changed up its tune lately and I can only imagine they wouldn't overhaul the system to its coming state without having plans to continue developing it.

when eve came out in 2003 (as well during acrophya) you really wondered in null/wh space... am I the first here? this might not have ever been mapped, scanned... ^^ poorly made blunt forum post above ^^ |

For a lot of people, the content the new changes will expose is something that they've never even knew were there in the systems they've been frequenting. For a lot of people, this will be brand new experiences for them.

Pfft. It's a perfectly valid citation given how people act (in general not specifically).

It was a brand new experience for me back in 2009 and I didn't mind draggin all those probes around, sneaking through low/null to find sites. |

Let's just kill all the exploration/scanning/astrometric skills and just lump them all into a skill called "reveal all". Train to level 5 and all the mysteries of the system will be revealed.
The other alternative is to spawn sites that cannot be found with the system scanner and you need specialized equipment to find even more spare parts and empty cans. |

With how things have been going, the skill req for revealing all would only need level 4. Gotta make it new player friendly!

Using that same logic, why not allow new players to fly carriers with a week of training? They are already lowering the the price of admission to fly an Orco. They are doing the same with scanning. I have spent some significant time training scanning skills on two toons. That time will be wasted come Odyssey.

Oh, cool, another thread where we can all get together and pretend like the current incarnation of scanning is a deeply complex system that takes days, nay, WEEKS! of intense practice to master.
We haven't had one of these for about five minutes, now. |

I like having technology work for me instead of putting me to work. It's silly to think that in Star Trek somebody might have had to sit at a computer screen manually positioning, resizing, and nudging a bunch of probes around for 5 minutes just to find out where the away team's shuttle flew off to.
You can't imagine how many times I thought to myself "Gee, I really wish my probes remembered this formation so I didn't get carpal tunnel syndrome while trying to scan down sites". Anything that minimizes the amount of tedious crap involved with scanning and lets me get on to the fun stuff quicker is a good change in my book. In two months, nobody will miss the old system. |

I've been of the opinion that all content in Eve should be dynamic, and that static sites should disappear completely, for a long time now. That means getting rid of fixed asteroid belts, making moon goo cycle through different regions and so on. In order to do this a first step would be to simplify exploration (of the most common/easiest content) first. So I think it's all good.
Not that I've been able to play it on SiSi, because I was unsubbed at the last DB copy :(. |

Shelved next to the "cold, dark and harsh universe", there are no room for challenging content in mmo's today.

I guess CCP needs to automate this operation. Because we are in deep future with great technologies. It would be good to just press button "Catch target" and get your ship getting into given orbit and use its' point and maintain the best possible speed/overheat to keep target pointed.
good idea isn't it?
