Eris here hijacking the first post, yes nodes have dropped and people know of it. Please reply to this thread with all your feelings regarding the nodes going offline for a halloween celebration.

I have heaps of people coming up in reds and greens on my screen - is something wrong atm?
They just complained about lag in my corp chat - suddenly more than half have gone. - WTF?

Huge lag spike, lots of people complaining about being stuck in Help channel.
One of my accounts dropped connection, then couldn't log back in. I hadn't even started whining properly about that before the other account did the same thing.
The forums went all "plank bubble" at about the same time for a minute or so, too.

Jita appears to have died.
A small E-uni fleet was attempting to jump in from New Caldari when we all lost connection to the server, significantly an alt sitting far away from any action also got kicked.
Commiserations to whomever was in that Diemos that accidentally destroyed one of our pilot's rifter and promptly got a visit by Concord only addiing to the mayhem.

Great no wonder i just lost my BS...warping out of a plex and to me I was in the astroid belt but my corp mates told me i was still in there and they where watching my ship blow up...so I log and relog I find that they were right, there I was in a pod...off I go to collect my super nOOb ship and they all tell they got logged.
At least I'll be able to have a chance at getting my ship back thanx to the rest of the server going down. They'll have to have logs of this. :)

was a fun fight in Jita o/, was able to lock on something then it was freeeze time, i watched for 3 min how my rifter got killed another 3-5 min for the pod.
Pod structure tanking is the new trend, pod with flames shooting out of its ass is just cool

jita was up to +340 the moment we jumped in, rest of the attacking/defending fleet was still jumping in with masses the moment we got to the new caldari gate so don`t even wanna know how many were in there

Do CCP do reimbursals for node drops? just that I spent all night setting up a destroyer at a cost of 15 mil, only for the node to drop 2 minutes into the complex I wanted to do.
I can get to my login screen, and can see that my ship has been lost, and for some bizarre reason, i have been podded as well.
Obviously the NPCs have turned nasty on halloween. |

log in screen (char login) gets to 50% hangs then 2 minutes goes to CTD - me thinks that the 5 and FE entering jita for their empire wars caused this but oh well thats apparently in retailation for teh POS wars.
Still it will provide feedback and data for CCP to utilise in planning better node distribution. Perhaps splitting busy systems across 2 nodes and having a connections between em to allow more players in each system during busy times
Well either load up sisi (still working i think go test some of those new things) or load up x2 and x3 and have some offline fun

Tpar-G completely dead. left my invisible ship flying at 30m/s randomly, with nothing appearing on overview (despite the fact I just jumped in :D) Chat worked though, alliance mates told me to log, now I cant get back in.
I swear.. if I have lost my ship to gate rats/pirates, and my petition is declined due to "no evidence of lag caused here" I will be in the mood to go postal on the GM team.

this will give CCP quite a bit of data to play with and hopefully lead to some better node co ordination.
But to all those in jita feel free to keep coming back. CCP might finally listen and remove half the market goods (NPC) and spread em around nearby systems - move some of the agents into nearby systems to reduce normal lag and player concentration.
We had this storyline encouraging players to move but the agents remain - perhaps some better high sec gate connections and maybe a couple new systems recently discovered and colonized and place some of those relocated agents there.

Back in now out in aridia seems to be working ok - at least the data feeds CCP will be able to make some fine tuning to the server in general - so please continue to attempt youre empie wars in high sec systems (we need some of the agents and NPC goods and BPOs spread around a bit more evenly anyway)

It seems to have stopped dropping nodes, at least for now. Stabilized at 88 of 110 nodes alive.
If this starts happening again, or if we have any more problems, we will have to do an unscheduled reboot.

each node handles a couple of systems - each player in a system takes up a certain amount of node resources anything over 500 and it strains the node on the server (basically its a % of the server space dedicated to a certain system) i think
But its also dynamic ie if no one is in a system it takes less resources but if u enter a solar system and youre the only one there it activates the node.

nah the hardware was more to reduce lag on database requests ie when u load youre wallet or assets up - when u request an agent mission etc.
It doesnt cover so much in space action which is via a server node.
Though database requests ie seach assets is workign much quicker

5 allianc and forsaken empire were major contributors to this u all know what to do ..... i think war decs will be coming thick and fast :) either that or raids on their 0.0 space (which in itself will be good for battleship producers)
The RAMSAN 4000 is linked to the database not space based fleet lag (unless u open up yore cargo hold request the data and have 1000 BMs inside) in which case then the database will take a little while to load up.
But fleet battles mostly go via the server not the database - the hardware was put in to take pressure off the server i think by allowing quicker database enquiries.

i use logic as my information source :) what has happened before and what will happen in future at least if everyone is going to have a maximum of 5 drones able to be used at least bring back harvestor drones and boost the amount of ore mining drones bring in.

The Empires have done much to get pilots to move out of hub systems. Realigned trade routes and increasingly subsidized compensation for low-security work were proper steps, but perhaps it is time to go further. Much of the activity in hub systems follows from corporation to pilot work assignments, so:
A proposal: That the various governments require their corporations to suspend capsuleer related activity in hub systems, or require these corporations to move some agents to other systems.
I would not normally support such a heavy-handed measure, but the situation is now affecting those who have no direct part in it. This must be solved in some way, for if we have no access to space, how can we fulfill our responsibilities to our people as pod pilots?

a) move some of the NPC trade goods (the static non dymanic ones) out of those core systems into systems within 5 high sec jumps
b) actually a dynamic trade goods economy would be even better still move those traders around
c) high sec missions can have different destinations based upon server loads
d) look to move modules - basic ships etc that are sold in yuali nonni, jita, rens etc spread them out a little bit more to.

I would think battles cause quite a few querys back to the database..
But your point is that this isnt going to be the problem and I would guess your correct...
All they did was buy a big box of ram, that looks like a drive.. and they paid a lot of money for it :P ..

Suddenly. Lagged to death and then a CTD.
Me, I put the blame on CCP
For I was logged out yesterday.
Why I had to go, I don't know, the forum's ill.
I think something's wrong, now I long to switch a skill, (bad timing)
Dying nodes, yet another system overload
Blame the drones, or maybe dodgy code.
As Eve did crash out yesterday.
Why I had to go, I don't know but I can guess
Jita had some wars, now of course, the game's a mess (so what's new?)
Yesterday, London seemed so very far away
Tried to relog, but fear not today.
Oh, /me now grieves for yesterday...

Well if this isnt the largest log file for a little lag and a crash I dont know what is!

For those inquiring minds, the node deaths last evening were the result of a complete loss of network connectivity to the database. The node in question was not aware of the network disconnection and it started a cascade effect on other nodes.
The nature of the crash took the entire cluster with it. We are investigating the cause of the crash, but due to the sheer amount of data, it may take some time to do so. A further post-mortem will be made available in the future.
