Could you kindly give us the email address of those responsible, or invite them to eve. That way we all get a shot on killing them in a safe normal fashion. And maybe just maybe they will kill us.
Nah they would be able to kill most of us. |

2 problems with that.
1- Your subs pay for your game time, so ccp are failing to give the service they are being paid to provide. Possibly a case for refund or game time to cover it, but personaly i think thats going OTT and a gesture of good will is enough. I do agree there's alot of people out for free stuff, but for me as long as i can get the SP i've missed out on allocated as free xp I wont be too bothered. |

Dealing with a DDOS attack is a big issue.
Thank you, CCP, you did a great job. Thanks for the people behind the scenes working a very long day, fixing things and enable us to play Eve. I have the highest respect of you guys.
Hopefully, you guys were able to collect data which helps getting a hand on the attacker(s).

how do you know it wasnt their fauilt? They say it wasnt their fault but thats what they say, it can just as well been a ccp worker who lost his/her brain. in the end we are paying for a service, which was not accessible. |

I have a pay account and have for a while. As with anything (especially online) their is some inherent risk to down time. All i am saying is that a lot of the time **** just happens. I guess i am just tired of hearing about people demanding free hand outs. instead of looking at it from the POV of well **** i cant play a game for a day... Quit your bitching and fly! |

The System may become unavailable for a number of reasons, including without limitation during the performance of maintenance to the System, for the implementation of new software, for emergency situations and due to equipment or telecommunications failures.
It's in the EULA and that's the bottom line guys.
But having come to Eve from other MMO's that care little to none about the community past getting their 15 a month it's refreshing to see a well tended game like this. Even before CCP released the statement that they would look into what kind of compensation players would be getting for this, I knew they would provide a good will gesture because of my limited experience with the new launcher roll out.
Trust me, this is a decent company that actually seem to care about the community, there are way worse ones out there that could be running the show, and the size, longevity and quality of the player base is testament to that.

Capt Tenguru10 wrote:There will be compensation for this 100%. We lost game time and in some cases sp from not have a que filled. Also some players might have lost ships. All of these issues are not the fault of the player. And while not CCP fault per se, we were not giving any warning about emergency shut down or given any chances to fill que or dock ships, so with that said you can bet on getting 100 k sp don't worry, ship lost due to this will probably get replaced by ccp, just petition it, and allow them time to handle this, cause they will have many many of those to handle, and no doubt they will.
regarding compensation, i don't think it being required, but knowing CCP, they will probably do something anyway, so stop bitching at em, let em have some rest for now, they deserve it.
i don't hesitate to yell at em when it is, imao, deserved (bugs and stuff), but here, there is NO REASON at all to show anything but support at their efforts handling this |

Aprudena Gist wrote:why would you do daily downtime ~50 minutes after you just go the server up?
Because daily downtime is used to update the servers. Given that they had to work out other issues, they most likely didn't update the servers before daily dt. On top of that they probably brought them up an hour before downtime to make sure everything was ok, so they could fix any issues that arose during normal downtime. |

CCP, I appreciate your hard work and concern for data security during the DDoS, and I'm happy you took the time required to make things right. Working during the weekend sucks.
I'm one of the many who did lose training time during the outage. I neither expect, nor demand any sort of reimbursement or compensation, since I know what happened is fully out of your control. I'll take full responsibility for my queue running out.
On that note, should you decide to offer any sort of "compensation" for the downtime, I'll accept it in spirit of a gift, with many thanks and more appreciation.
Good luck on the upcoming Odyssey roll-out, and I hope you guys get to take a well-deserved vacation after things have settled out. Don't worry miners, I'm here to help!

When I saw instability in the game on sunday the first thing I did was put a skill that takes a few days, predicting that something else could happen. Actually did not expect the problem to be solved as fast knowing it is a ddos.
So there was only one problem, my dear Vindicator spent the night in the street and was a bit cold, she's a bit upset
Thanks CCP for your hard work |

Also... Been playing Eve for a while now... And it's actually pretty stable and reliable most of the time (not including patches, but then again some hickups are to be expected if you change a lot of code), more so then other MMO's I've played. This is actually the first really long unexpected downtime I've experienced with Eve so far (not counting patch problems) |

Well I am a new player to Eve.
I have played a few MMOs in my time but i have to say. I have NEVER seen a company handle something like this the way you guys did. You not only gave up your weekend and busted your behinds all night to get it back up and running you did something that until now i have not seen a company have the balls to do.
Despite the trolling and QQing to just open it back up you told them NO. Alot of companys would have just given in to the crazy feedback and put out an unsafe or over all bad product. But you did the right thing despite the fact some of your players would be butt hurt you waited until it was safe for all of us.
This to me is a huge reason to continue to play your game...
I guess this is just a long drawn out thank you!

While I do appreciate CCP and normally support them (fanboi) this situation was completely avoidable. They took all of the servers down because there was a patchable exploit in their infrastructure. The keyword in that last sentence is patchable. We (collectively) pay them lots of money, and this sort of flaw in the platform should have been identified before its too late. Yes, I know some exploits are 0-day and such, but since they patched it it had to be an exploit that was on someones radar. Suggesting someone gets a raise because of this is the opposite of what should happen tbh. Someone should get a yelling at and possible termination for not being on top of security.
That said they did not stay up for us, they stayed up because its their job. They could not work around the clock to get the servers patched and expect the userbase to keep paying them. Now CCP isn't a giant machine, and I am sure a lot of the people were sympathetic with us because they do also play the game, but even if they weren't i'm sure it was an "ALL HANDS ON DECK" call from above. I know I have been in situations similar where sure, I want to make things available to customers because it sucks for everyone things are down but everyone is working on the problem because that's what they get paid to do.
I really do appreciate the information on why they took everything down instead of the bs line about this being a DDoS attack. That is what agitated me most yesterday was that they were blatantly lying to everyone about what happened. Glad to see they came clean about the issue today!
I do also agree with the decision to shut everything down to figure out what the hell happened and get it fixed in how every long it takes before bringing it back online. That was very responsible of them, and I appreciate them protecting my information ;) |

I think the launcher is a useless piece of garbage that provided a bunch of drawbacks, and broke something that worked perfectly fine before, adding not a single benefit. But this weekend's events were not CCP's fault for one. On top of that, they handled things exceptionally. I heard DDoS, and I was expecting a week of downtime or more, because a DDoS can be VERY hard to mitigate. This is the time to give CCP some well deserved praise, not undeserved hate. |

It is impossible to lock all the back doors. Just last week China stole several top secret designs from the US military.

Especially when your toons training queued stopped for hours during/after/inbetween the shutdown, when trying to beat the deadline for June 4th. Was suppose to finish 40 days of training at 1am on the 4th, now it pretty darn close to the server shutdown, and barely enough to insert/train the remaining skill which has to wait for the other skill to finish.
If it wasn't for the expansion deadline it wouldn't be much of a problem. But this forced using up remaps to beat the clock, and the clock stopped even. :( "In a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." ~George Orwell

The attack took advantage of a (until now) unknown vulnerability in their servers. They took the servers down to evaluate the situation, and make sure customer data had not been compromised, while also working on a patch to remove the vulnerability.
