Hi there.
My subscription runs out in about a month. In 18 months and 2 accounts, I've gained what some might call a nest-egg. Before I quit Eve, I've decided to be a generous benefactor and give it all away. Well, I wouldn't say give; you will be earning it. I've bounced around a few ideas and decided it would be most entertaining to have a competition to see who can make the best artwork using secure cans jettisoned into space. Anchoring them is up to you (probably a good idea though) and the top three entries will be rewarded handsomely. Best of all, no fierce space combat, interstellar racing or registration fees required.
I was originally planning to give the money away through an escalating series of ridiculously tedious challenges just to see if anyone would go through it all, but I decided to settle on something with a chance for turnout.
I myself have dabbled in can-art. Having been inspired by that giant "ICE" sign in Jurlesel, I put up this sign at the headquarters of Evil Empire, Inc. in Mimen some time ago. It took about an hour and was done to curry favor of the CEO. Sure it's only half complete, but its visible every time he leaves the station and it'll probably sit there for years to come. It's a legacy I'm proud to say was made half-assed. I also entered an Eve-Radio competition for jet-can art with this amazing verbage (yes, the "S" has a tumor). The arrow points to the only other entrant's work, which I think was supposed to be an anchored sailboat.
Now for the details:
The Prizes
First Place: 1,500,000,000 ISK
Second Place: One Caldari Freighter OR 800,000,000 ISK (winners choice)
Third Place: Whatever the second place character didn't choose.
I may also give out a few million to runners-up that I like.
The Location
Make your art in the Sinq Laison region of space, 0.5 and up systems only. Moons are recommended since it gives you time to craft your masterpiece in secret without people coming by and "adding their own touches", but if you want to be visible and put it up at a gate or station, that's fine. All I need is the moon name or a bookmark when you are ready to submit it.
The Deadline
You have until November 21st to set up your cans, at which point I'll view them and take some screenshots, then determine the winners on or before December 1st.
Ways to Win
These are things that I'll take into account:
Creativity: You can write words or make pictures. As long as it's recognizeable, you have a chance of winning, but the more entertaining the better.
Effort: The more cans, the better. I'll also look for can spacing, alignment, and general overall image quality. If you have a particular vantage point you want it viewed from, make a bookmark. 3D is always a plus. Don't try claiming an asteroid belt can cloud as your own though.
Taste: Please remember that these cans will probably stay there awhile. This means neeners on the 100 km space peeners.
I don't care if you do this as teams, with your entire corp, or alone. I'll give the prizes to a recipient you designate. It may be easier to work as a team, but if you're like me, you'd probably want to keep the creative vision (read: isk) to yourself. Either way, I'm giving away 3+ billion isk to whoever can litter the best, so impress me.
Also, don't let the character name deter you, it was a corp thing. It ended up looking like Inigo Montoya anyway. I don't plan on resubbing, and would hate to see all this ISK go to waste.

If anyone has begun already, they must be keeping it a secret even from me.
I'll post screenshots of the entries I receive, and their location if the owner agrees. I'll judge them from the pics I take when I see them, since once they're made public they may be fun to sabotage.
Eve-mail Evil Schemer with the location when you have your work ready. It looks like this contest might attract some talent after all.

i'm going to put one of these together, got a couple design idea's, but to avoid someone killing it as it may take a few days is it alright if i put it at a safespot and gang show it to you, or give co-ordinates? or does it need to be near a planet, Moon, Asteroid Belt etc?

Thats why I put in the little stipulation of visiting each entry. I wouldn't count this contest out just yet though. I've seen a pretty faithful rendition of an Omen so far.
I'll keep the locations private until the 21st to be fair. Post them yourselves if you want, but I don't think most would want fellow competitors with an edge on what it will take to out-do you. I've heard of at least one being made at a gate any way, so if you're desperate, you could just fly around Sinq Laison looking for inspiration.

Come on, why don't you make things really simplier and salute the gratify the authors of the ICE structure of Jurlesel - which means "ICE is Coming to EVE" is settled here and is glad to contribute significantly to the prosperity of Everyshore, welcome to all pilots flying in the area !" - and just give us the freighter for instance.
I mean, it would be a really appreciated legacy you would make, something written deeply in the ICE history, you would become a hero for us...

The ice letters got me started on can signs also. My friend and i created a sign for Fuzzy in gerper and one for Venture Corp in torrinos. They both turned out very nice but i didnt read the EULA before i put them next to gates so....
Looking foward to trying our luck with this one.

I've visited 4 entries so far that are all quite stunning, meaning I've accomplished my original intent of making this giveaway a colossal waste of time for at least 1 player. I didn't count the cans in Hinik's entry, but to give you an idea of the effort that people will put in to win, another entrant's work has 500+ anchored cans. My hat goes off to you all.
I've managed to drum up an additional 100 million ISK that I'll spread around to the rest of the entries, so don't get discouraged. Even if you could have made 10 times as much by spending the time mining, at least you'll be reimbursed for your cans. And you'll leave a great legacy to burden the servers for years to come!

Are you going to publish the location of all the submissions once the contest is over? Win or lose, it would be nice for all the players in Eve to be able to take a sightseeing tour of the region to see the work that the competitors have put in.

Hello,
I just want to advise all peoples who are willing to participate to this really nice event to put their creation in safe places with low population and to not communicate its location.
Today our "ICE" sign in Jurlesel has been denounced by some unpleasant players leading to its removal by two GM.
Now, only one can remains of the glorius name of our corporation

i just finished making a 200km sphere fighting arena out of a few hundred cans in the matropalis region. its really worth having a look at lol.
anyways if thats no good then i'll travel to sinq liason and setup somthin else like "Evil schemer rules, billion isk ftw" or just sum pretty pictures lol,

Dude, sometimes it messes up, you need to go come back out then go back to the moon again. it should work the 2nd or 3rd time. I dunno why it happens, but it does.

it looks ok from the warp-in point, but there is a can named "viewing point 2" ~10km from the warp-in point where it is supposed to be looked from.

It's too big for a screenshot, so I made a short video clip.
Now im not an expert movie maker, but I think it does the job.
This one is 8 mb (a little lower quality, not recommended except for dialup users)

LOL, me too. I never thought about the effect on prices :). I do know that I was paying almost 10,000 isk a can to buy in bulk. Cost RabbidFerret and I about 5 million to make our project.

After much discussion, I have decided the winners of the Sinq Laison Can Art competition. It was a tough call as some serious effort and thought was put in to many great designs. Over 4,100 cans in total were used. I can only imagine the expression on the face of some rookie pilot months from now jumping to a random moon to explore and finding one of these permanent monstrosities staring them down.

Submitted by Balian Ice and crew and located at Faurent IV, just over 300 cans make up this adorable bovine, seen leaping light-heartedly over the nearby planet when viewed from the marked waypoint. While not technically a moon, the artistry shown by these pilots still proves that they have definitely graduated from Bovine University.
