Don't forget. They'd insert a DRM Rootkit in each patch. (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help her on her way to world domination. |

If SOE took over all the devs with the vision would be gone within a year and then it'd be fall into maintenance cash-grab mode. --Decairn |

If SOE took over there would be a 18 hour wait before you could log in on your main after logging in as an alt.

As someone mentioned; what if EA took over Eve?
We would see super ³ber kit, that would only be available for a short amount of time, to purchase for real cash. After the time ran out, the kit would be re-launched at a new sales pitch, or given out for free as a reward for having played long enough.
Everything would be neon-colored.
Every system would have a mirror system.
There would be bugs that were so old, they-ve turned into features. (UO being older than anything else, has the longest standing bugs known to MMOGS, short spear graphics, anyone? )
Every so often, new expansions would launch in a heat-and-rush, with minimum testing, no attention to what minimum test results were actually achieved, and completely disregarding any thought of how said exapansion might influence existing systems.
Expansions would also always introduce something that was completely out of sync with the rest of the setting. Including the other out-of-sync themes introduced in previous patches. An example would be; the water-world of Eve, a region where your ship turned into submarines, exploring an underwater settings, full of strange beasts, super sharks and such.
Oh, did I mention? everything would be neon-colored.

Originally by: Malthros Zenobia Hey, it could be worse. Square-Enix could buy EVE.
Any company that can ruin Final Fantasy AND Dragon Warrior is some serious competition for SOE for the title of "biggest suck ever".

Ouch, dont want to think about it. I still play SWG too, and only because of the other players I play it with.
Seriously, whenever I hear people *****in about CCP I have to laugh... until you experiance SOE you have no idea how damn good CCP are.
Now hear is a better thought...
What if CCP did SWG?

Honestly, I look back at SWG and I see one of the most betrayed mmo's ever. SWG had the potential to be one of the best MMORPG's of all time, and the devs ignored all that potential to pander to SOE money grabbers and a community that had no idea how to actually balance an mmo.
I sure am glad that CCP doesn't give into the community when it comes to what to change in the game, else this game would be lopsided beyond all reason, like SWG.

Sorry to see other victims of the EQ2 crafting system. Although, strangely enough, it was the one part of that game I rather enjoyed...
In order to sell any products (crafted or found) to other players, you must dock your ship in your home station and remain online with the market screen open. You may use the in-game browser, but if you close the market, your goods will no longer be posted for sale.

I was once an everquest player... and loved my lil cleric... SOE destroyed the game and ruined the playing fun. Hate to say it but I walked away from everquest and my lil cleric. I will not again play a game controled by SOE

1st Post.
I just got here as a refugee from SWG. If you do not know, they totally changed the game from a MMORPG into a MMOFPS. They are porting it to consoles (ps3, xbox360) and dumbed it down to the point of being meaningless.
A few friends like this game pretty well. Gonna give it a whirl and see how it goes.

There are about 3 threads around the forums, including this, related to that.
We know. If it was bad before, its going to be absolutely miserable now. And knowing SOE, it can only get worse.
Welcome to EVE... I expect we will have a lot of refugees soon - Proud member of the [23].

Let the floodgates open. I fled from that evil empire about 3 months ago and discovered Eve about 2-1/2 months ago.
SOE has completely ruined SWG. EVE has my full attention now...though I might get distracted by Star Trek Online when it comes out in '06

Originally by: Caanan SOE are the people behind Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest trilogy, Planetside, all those games. They are a horrible company that tries to cater to everyone so they can make as much money as possible. The dev teams that work on their games are VERY lazy, Planetside is an example of this.
Planetside isn't so bad its fun time to time, but the devs really did not spend enough time on it.
Nah, that's just over the top. The devs work hard... but the executives all went to the same business schoold Dilbert's pointy haired boss did...

Originally by: Wrayeth Edited by: Wrayeth on 08/11/2005 09:38:21 I cancelled my SWG subscription back in February of this year, and I'd been playing since one month after release. In my noobishness (SWG was my first MMORPG), I failed to realize that waiting for SOE to fix what was wrong with the game was a lost cause (I also failed to realize that SOE inevitably just makes things worse, not better), and spent many months with my SWG subscription still active while I played EVE.
Anyway, all ramblings aside, all of the derogatory things that have been mentioned in this thread in regards to SOE are true, in my experience. I'm extremely glad that CCP seems to care more about producing a quality product than lining their pockets.

exactly what he said! all of it ....uh huh ..all of it! , but ... i had 5 accounts with SOE WHY!! WHY!! did it take me sooooooo long /sob

You would have to grind 10/10 Deadspace complexes called Black Wing Lair and Molten Core to get your single uber 2% drop chance 425mm II (which you would need 8 of them to complete the set for useless bonuses).
If that isnt bad enough, each PvP kill you net would give you "honor". At the end of the week, the entire honor pool is added up, and your score is compared to the relative percentage of the entire honor pool. If you have the top 10 highest percentage, you advance slowly up the rank ladder, of which they are 14. After Rank 6, you must be top 6. After rank 10, you must be 5th or better to advance. After rank 12, you must be 4th or better standing to advance. At 13, the only way you can get the godlike rank of 14 is to be the person with the most time on their hands, and go grind an enclosed PvP arena for the next 2 months straight with 14 hours a day sessions.
...I regret spending my time like that to get rank 12 marshal. /me cries softly ------------------------------- Leon / LN026

Eve is like heaven on a stick compared to what they managed to turn SWG into. There is not one comparison you can make between the two games that comes out in favour of SWG and SOE.
Even the current node problem that CCP are having is a once in a blue-moon occurance. In SWG it's an almost hourly event - with no notice from the devs as to whats happening, or that anyone at SOE are even aware of there being an issue.
I can remember the Valcyn server being down for hours one night and the CSRs were saying "all the servers are up, there is no problem" - even though the chat was full of Valcynites complaining that it had not come up after the restart!! Turns out they had forgotten to bring that server up - I mean...how can you forget to bring a MMO server up!!
They used to temp-ban players when too many people gathered in one location on a server because it would crash the thing!!!. They then issued an edict stating that no more than 20 people could gather in one place owing to the lag it caused - and then to top it off, wanted people to organise events!! It was complete and utter madness most days.
And this isn't even getting into the fact that they have completely re-written the game mechanics at least 4 times since the servers went live - and they still can't get it right. Heck even with the new CU2 there are still bugs ingame that have been there since the servers went live over 2 and half years ago!!!

If Eve become SOE's, it would be dead.

He'd have the best of intentions I'm sure...but you'd need to do a degree course to be able to play EVE if that was the case

Edited by: Delente on 09/11/2005 02:03:32 don't forget -all agent mission rewards will be reduced to 1k isk max due to "balancing the economy"
-implants would require a special surgeon that would require you to do redundant missions for 4 weeks to get a 10.0 standing before you can talk to them to do the mission to get it installed
-Implants would have a chance of exploding killing you when installing
-A free galaxy wide search would be implimented for people and sale items
-when purchasing anything the item would go to the station of your choice
-character creation would change to 5 preset template face shapes
-mining would be changed to killing rats in asteroid belts that drop ore 30% of the time 80% of the ore drops would be veldespar
-you would have to constantly buy fuel for your ship keeping 10% or more of your cargo hold designated for fuel
-"Cargo containers of holding"---infinate volume cargo containers that take 6 moths to get 1 in which the next expansion gives one free to buyers of said expansion
Enough for now... I'll never again play Evercrank and its expansion Ruins of my Life

I'm not sure where the notion of EVE being sold comes from, but from a business and financial standpoint it might be a pretty good time for CCP to put the asset into play. The game has produced impressive growth numbers in subscribership and cash flow. Marketing the game while still in a steep growth trend may help to maximize the return on investment. In marketing the game, I would play down server, database, network facility and other tehcnical constraints and issues as overcomeable challenges, and I would play up huge future growth potential driven by anticipated growth in the overall MMOG market, strong potential for increased penetration into that market, currently untapped markets, substantial anticipated future new game content, etc. If it were me, I wouldn't flip the thing for anything less than 15 times anticipated 2006 EBITDA.
But to reply to the original post, regardless of who owns it, if the game were to follow the described path, I would cancel my six accounts immediately.

hrhr ppl it could be more worse if:
REAKKTOR would buy EvE!
Ever played Neocron2? Great game... but if EvE would be Neocron2 ... there would be:
* Lot of Hacks with that you can shoot ppl from AUs away even if they are hiding behind a droid or are cloacked * For researching bpo you need Research Gel and a lot of time and some datacubes. * For building you need a lot of that bp cubes, Construction Lube. * You cant mine Zydrine and Megacyte anymore. That must be recylced through all avaible Minerals into one. * If there are more then 30 ppl in one system the system there will be nice lag... if the 31st is coming in.. server will crash. * There are no jump scenes anymore... you will get a sync and if you are unlucky ... you will stuck in and cant move... but the enemie can shoot you. * Ever had a Fatal Error every 30min cause your memory is too full?
Btw: Neocron2 would be a nice game but Reakktor broke it ... same goes now for SOE.
