So I think I must tell the story of the EPIC battles going on between iron/G and ASCN. Yes this is an alt please donÆt Spam pointing that out. I want to give a fair and balanced news flash of the last few daysà..
Dateline AZN. à.. The iron/G/ASCN war has been in a stalemate now for several weeks. Although their have been battles really nothing has changed. G/iron however has launched a new offensive in AZN by bring down 20-30 small POS and 2-3 Dreads. Yesterday during Europe time they setup the POSÆs in AZN. (I am sure ASCN is not happy to find out that a system with 60 moons is a bad thing as far as defense is concerned.) AZN is a key system to the ASCN defense lying at a middle crossroads to their defense. Its loss may not be fatal but would be a severe blow. Compounding the problem for ASCN is that from what I understand the buggy pos software did not inform them of the 30 POS being setup in their system. (LOL) So very soon after ASCN discovered what was happening ,ASCN started putting a POS in reinforce mode (even though with the current bugs it may not be target able after reinforce mode.) G/iron sent a large fleet over to AZN and very quickly a LARGE battle started at the TR07 gate in AZN. The Battle was huge and of course laggy with hundreds of ships involved. In 1 hour over 200 ships were lost in the system. I get different stories on who won. Compounding the problem is that the ASCN killboard has become rather broken from what I hear. To me a simple way to look at it is ôWho gets the loot cans?ö In this case ASCN got the loot cans. My guess is that ASCN took higher losses overall, but its just too hard to tell what the final tally sheet was. The truth of the matter is that it really did not change anything system control wise. What is for sure is the billions of isk were lost and both sides took high losses. The series of battles took well over an hour to play out. Finally reinforcements showed up from iron and ASCN went to their POS to wait for things to change. For those of you who donÆt know every day the balance of power shifts based on time zones. During Europe time G/iron has the advantage. During USA time ASCN is clearly stronger. So anyway soon G/iron left/logged and the little hobbits got busy. During the next hours ASCN put 10-12 POS in reinforce mode. This implies allot of fire power. What will happen now? ItÆs hard to tell; certainly the nature of the battle will change with RMR. Who will it favor? Who will take the most advantage of the changes remain to be seen. Morale assessment is very subjective. I think that ASCN sees this as a battle for its very existence which tends to motivate people fairly well. ASCN PVP seems to have improved in the last few weeks. G/iron morale remains good I think although some leaders seemed to feel this was going to be over very quickly. If they can truly take and hold AZN the clear advantage to the war would be theirs. Clear Winner so far: LAG Lag was horrible for both sides. Modules not working, warping not responding, overview going blank. CanÆt target enemiesàthe usual stuff. It would be nice if CCP would tell us fixing lag is a top priority. Clear Loser : POS POS wars suck. POS software is very buggy and makes whole thing frustrating to say the least.
Rumours: (yup not much to back these up) *ASCN used Dreadnaughts during the Fleet battle in AZN yesterday. *G/Iron plan to move their alliance down to the south and live there. *ASCN used half a dozen dreadnaughts to take out the POSÆs yesterday *G/Iron is going to pull in another alliance to help them *Someone will soon attack G/Iron systems in the North.
And thatÆs the way it is ....Dec 1st in Eve-land This is Reba Yarr signing off.

Well since this appears to be a reasoned nonflame thread started by an alt, let me contribute to the thought-out altness.
Doesn't G have an Outpost in their current zone of control? If so, it seems unlikely that they would abandon it, unless they're willing to essentially 'bet' it's loss against the odds they'd be able to take out ASCN and assume control over their Outposts/space.

In my time in eve that is probobly the most accurate and neutral report I have ever seen. It explains the situation very well. And whitout having intel from that area, I can not verify it. But to me it looked solid. My hope is status reports like this becomes more common. It doesn't take sides. And it gives a bird eye view of the situation. Many could learn from this kind of report. Instead of beating the war drums and play propaganda. Nicely done mate.

Well it looks neutral but considering it's full of half truths and doesn't get facts right it's pretty useless. It contains quite a lot of propagenda that ASCN is spreading within their ranks. (e.g. less than a third of our fleet acctually jumped in. the rest was already there)

I've read it over a couple times and I don't see alot thats objectionable. How would you know what is being spread within the ranks? This to imply G feels the need to use the ever-lame forum spies? I've seen alot of propaganda smack on the forums and in local from G such that I feel you've no right to accuse anyone of this.

raistalin seriously I don't need a forum spy (or any kind of spy) to know what ASCN think (they say most of it on the forums outloud anyway)

propagenda? lol Propaganda? Sir with all due respect this is no propagenda or propaganda, I am trying to present the facts as I know them. Is everything perfectly correct? most likely not. I dont even understand the point you are trying to make about your fleet warping in? or part of it? bah. I am trying to tell people the drama (the real news) that is going on. Fair enough. This is true I must say, one could get that impression easily from us on pub forums.

Quite a few PoS changed Sites, since G Alliance started there PoS erection campaign. When they had finished the erection on the first day, they had the Majority. Now Ascendent Frontier have the Majority. After we started our campaign of placing the PoS's into Re-inforced mode when we had TZ superiority on the first day, G alliance start to offline and Unanchoring a number of them on the second day of the PoS war. Why did they do this? They did not do this to the untouched ones, just the ones that had been attahced. Are they pulling out? Could be, they might of underestimated the fire power that we could field, ie taking a Small PoS into re-infored mode in a little over 30 mins. Are they unachoring them and re-achnoring them at another location? this could be so, so that they last alot longer. But over the course of the last two days, G has lost ~10 PoS site to us, (exact figure not known, as TZ change counts are lost in the excitment of battle). So all the popultaion of AZN-D2 are save once more from the invaders from G alliance.

So I'm assuming that your definition of propaganda is something along the lines of "Anything that doesn't state that ASCN is on the verge of collapse due to the un-stoppable might of G and her allies."
Because frankly I dont see anything in the OP but exactly what happened. The facts are laid out: POS were placed in system, ASCN started shooting them, Some portion of the G and friends forces came back, A fleet battle ended with G no longer at the gate (regardless of the kills/deaths ratio), ASCN proceeded to put 14 POS into reinforced mode
There's nothing slanted towards ASCN that I can find. Do you simply deny that the above events occured? ---------------------------------- "There's no +6 Sword of WTFPWN in Eve." - Er... Some person on the forum... |

I can state with a fair amount of confidence that if my beleif in these events is based on propaganda it's damn good propaganda, because I could swear I was actually there and saw these things happen.
There's nothing slanted towards ASCN that I can find. Do you simply deny that the above events occured?
nope I do not deny it but it looks quite different when you take into account that ASCN refused to fight G when ASCN only had around 10-15 ship advantage. (70 vs 80-90). G logged (well it was past midnight during the week). Than ASCN started to act. When there was hardly an enemy left. I'm not saying they should not do that and it's a good strategie when you can't take your enemy head on. The only difference this time was that G was eager for a fleet battle and we got a bloody good one though being heavily outnumbered. Of course our killratio wasn't as good as before but still way on our favour.
ASCN still believe that when they shoot POSes when the enemy is not present they win anything. Well keep believing it and you will die even quicker.
PS: POS war lol? do you think we could not have placed POSes in every one of your systems if we wanted so? It's about getting you acting since you refused to act last week. And if you refuse again you'll lose more stations.

So acvron after weeks of guerilla you got bored and engaged unfavouable odds - good for us.
You threaten to anchor more POSes in our space if we dont fight you head on - go ahead, we dealt with the ones in AZN we can deal with the others...
Anyway, the angry tone of you post ("dirty hobbitses you wont fight? you will die even quicklier!") gives away a lot about how your currently feeling towards how this war is going ^_^

Gobert im perfectly happy how the war is going.:) Im getting into a fleet battle at least 2 times a week and thats more than fine by me :). I just think it's so funny that ASCN is braging about shooting POSes in the middle of the night and they think that's going to win their war. The POSes are to give you guys incentives to act and finally you did though it was in the middle of the night. So we need to give a even harder time and force you to really face us (and that's all the POSes are about for us).

ASCN still controls AZN. They have destroyed 2-4 G/Iron POS and put most of the others in reinforced mode. The little hobbits have also put up new POS's and now control more than 50% (35!) of the moons. G's goal of forcing ASCN to decisive battles has not been successful due to the fact that the POS attacks have been in the USA time frame. No decisive battles as of dec 2nd. 31 ships lost in last 24 hours. As far as other rumours: -Bob has started to harass the G/iron space in the north -ASCN now looks like they only used 3-4 dreads during yesterdays battles. -SE has started flying with G/iron -some SA pilots have flown with ASC -Losses during the dec 1st battle look like they are strongly in G/irons favor

here 2 screen shots of ASCN dreads involved in destroying G-Pos's

photo 2
there were about 4 dreads in this fleet op.
We have finished off all pos's that were put into reinforced mode on sept 30 and put more into reinforced mode on dec 1 and I think were in the process of destroying more this morning of Dec 2 (in my time zone it's morning prob afternoon game time) -----------------------------------------------

So we didn't engage 70 vs 90. Whaa? I think the majority of ASCN has decided we don't like overlagged fleet battles much. Enter why we engaged when the numbers were below 100, but not above 150.

Edited by: ArcticFox on 02/12/2005 21:04:15 I don't want to go in to the discussion about fleet battles, but I know I wont be able to help myself. ASCN refusing to engage in a lag war (ei 70-80 ships versus 70-80 ships, where G would have the advantage being warped in on, being already loaed, and having less latency due to the geographical location of their player base) does not strike me as a bad decision. Though ironically if your fleet had stayed on the QBH gate for two or three minutes longer you would have seen the entire ASCN fleet warp in to engage. We had a couple seperate gangs going, a lot of uncertainty about what our move should be against the POS, reinforcements coming from all different directions, etc. By the time our fleet was fully sorted the reporters had arrived an G was jumping out.
Your numbers may not be fully accurate on how much advantage we had. At any given time there are as many as a dozen or sometimes even more ASCN players logged on but afk at station or POS for one reason or another. If you count those towards our fleet total you may not get an accurate impression of how many ships are actually in the air.
When our fleet warped in and found you had all jumped out while we were preparing to engage, we turned around and went for an un-armed small tower.
Also, I should point out that (against ASCN especially) placing 33 small towers in our crossroads system is a poorly thought out strategy to try and force our ships to engage your ships in a blob war. When ASCN sovreignty is threatened the focus is going to be on eliminating the threat, not that blob of G battleships floating around complaining that our fleet wont engage them. If that forcing fleet engagements truly was G's intention, then obviously G doesn't understand their enemy very well. After all, if G forces had attempted to engage ASCN forces at a POS we were shooting, battles almost certainly would have occured. Instead... G camped gates. The argument that G could not engage our fleets while they assaulted POS because it was all in the US TZ is patently false, as I personally saw some of our biggest fleets shooting POS during Euro timezone composed almost entirely of our Euro players.
Reba, a small correction. Considerably more than 3-4 POS have been destroyed (unless you're counting only the ones destroyed today). POS assaults took place across all timezones yesterday, for whatever reason G showed very little presence in AZN and did not make any large scale efforts to stop the ASCN fleet. All but the two armed G starbases in AZN are currently in reinforced mode. ---------------------------------- "There's no +6 Sword of WTFPWN in Eve." - Er... Some person on the forum... |

I'll admit the latency thing is not based on any personal experience, just what I've heard from our own Euro members about their response times to the Eve servers and the difference in north america. Yes, it is all very interesting.
If [G] and pals were to take AZN then what would it avail them? To hold the station would require a huge investment of manpower on their part and everyone in EVE knows its far harder to be the defender than the attacker.
So if they took the station and decided to set up home there how could it work? They would be surrounded on all sides by looking looking to shoot them at every opportunity and so the opportunities for mining/making isk would be slim to nil.
They could retreat to Stain space to undertake some of these tasks, but then their numbers start to get thinned out and spread and they would start to lose more ships.
ATM G have it very easy. If they want to engage then they can at the time and place of their choosing because they are the attackers. If AZN is blobbed up they can go roaming up to 68ft or wherever.
However, if they decide to set up home in the South then they will need to start defending and will soon learn how much it more difficult it is.
If they planned to move to the South then why not just take over Stain space and remain on decent terms with ASCN? People are not "scared" of ASCN in the same way they are of BoB or other pvp alliances but ASCN still have lots of peple and lots of ships and a lot of good pilots and if you want to make your home somewhere is it wise to make a real enemy out of your potential neighbours?
I don't know how wealthy individual pilots are within the G side of things, but even if you are in on the kills for a hundred ships and take only 10 or 15 losses yourself, eventually that takes its toll.
Anyway, I hope there are some more decent engagements soon, I for one would love to se a coule of dreads slugging it out though I doubt it will ever happen.

Do you really think G could take over stain region? I highly doubt it, since the carebear corps left to start their own alliances SA has only become way stronger then it was ... and all they proved by attacking SA is that they can jump in deal ****loads of dmg in a week and then move to ASCN.

More breaking news. It appears G/iron can't handel the miners of ASCN and have contracted merc's to help them. They are building up and are planing a big push into ascn space somewhere close to patch time so they can try to blow up ASCN's pos's and put up there own to claim sovernty under the up coming rmr game mechanics. This in my opion is not soild tactics but a act of desparation. I have tried to give nuetral reports but this is getting lame.

Yeah I heard this same rumour though not seen any mercs as yet flying with the Northeners. I expect that if it comes it will happen a day or so before RMR so ASCN will struggle to respond if all the POS were taken down in AZN or wherever.
I would hope that if this does prove true then ASCN will hire some mercs of its own.

Out of professional curiosity, thought tbh I shouldn't be encouraging you, which Mercenaries/mercenary group has been hired to get involved since you're "in the know"?

They are building up and are planing a big push into ascn space somewhere close to patch time so they can try to blow up ASCN's pos's and put up there own to claim sovernty under the up coming rmr game mechanics. This in my opion is not soild tactics but a act of desparation. I have tried to give nuetral reports but this is getting lame.
Try getting true information before you post this crap. Iron hiring mercs? Not on my watch. :p
