It works. Why try to fix it?
The need is not a constant one, they have been trying to change the font for a while because the existing font isn't UNICODE and thus does not represent the new character encodings used in the database by the client.
If you have spesific issues with it; be it kerning, size, weight or readability, then bug report them with screenshots. CCP have said that they will do what they can to rectify any problems, however a new font is a necessity not an option.

And yes yes anytime u want to talk in that font if it still works after RMR feel free to PM me. Just to take ur eyes off something else. Cause personally, abit of 3 or 4 font selection wouldn`t kill 'em to put in. Now enivironment hazards thats a big code and a hassle i'm surprised there doing, not many GD go thru with it.

I cannot understand why they do not give us the option to select from a variety of unicode font.
Is it really a problem to get a decent Unicode Font?
They probably still remember what happened after the font change on Tranquility some time ago.
They got the message and did an emergency patch.
But now they come up with a pretty similar font?
Do Jovians work for CCP that know no eyestrain and similar problems?

I love the new font. It's a lot more readable. There won't be any options to go back because other fonts don't support non-english characters. Such as those found in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, and Greek, to name a few.
If everyone who has a problem with the new font wrote up a bug report with the make and model of their monitor(s) and the resolution they run at, it could be determined if there actually is a problem with the new fonts.
With half the people having no problem with the new font(and in my case liking it), it's more than likely a matter of taste than a technical problem with the display of the fonts.

"With half the people having no problem with the new font(and in my case liking it), it's more than likely a matter of taste than a technical problem with the display of the fonts."
"I can't read that without squinting" has nothing to do with aesthetics.
And if 'half people have no problem', then the other half does. Which makes it what, 40+ thousand of subscribers..?
Lack of font selection really makse no sense when Windows comes with number of Unicode fonts out of the box, and they happen to be easily readable on top of that... :/

The Test server font takes quite a lot of stress from the market servers.
Wherever numbers are used, the fantastic unicode font is totally useless.
People leaving EVE for not being to do their thing makes for much more relaxed server CPU loads though. The font comes, I go. I don't pay for a game that tires my eyes within two minutes.

Why? Multilanguage font is only required for chat and maybe for bio. As for me, I want to chose custom font for chat, because I want to use font I like, no matter if it supports other languages or not :)
But the font in market and in other parts of UI is a serious problem for eyes. I got a good eyesight and I don`t want to torment my eyes. :(

First thing I might mention is to hit escape, go to the generic tab, and set the font to "wide". Three settings there, and that one looked best for me.
Next thing is, the kudos for the drop shadows! It really, really helps. Upping the font size in chat then making the window transparent results in more legible text than before for me, and its a sharp Nueropol look.
There is still issues with the scaling though, and bolding. Ampersands and other symbols come out looking terrible at some scales. Antialiasing + bold in other places make it illegibile. Numbers are problematic in others.
The drop shadows alone make it a far cry better than last patches fonts, and the wide setting helps a great deal - but I hope the fonts remain a very high priority to improve.

As many post there has been about the font you would have thought dev's would have got the clue that the font isn't working. Also noticed there is still a chat bug. hope it did not make it into tq server.

I joined the Test Server today for the first time and i was _shocked_, not by the overall changes, the market or the character sheet, those changes were all quite useful.
The new font isn't just ugly, it makes me look twice at texts in order to understand it ... and in addition i have problems reading the digits in assets or items window, which makes it much more difficult to administrate your assets efficiently.
I have a 19" CRT Monitor and im playing the game in 1600*1200 px because i want to enjoy the awesome graphics of the game ... please dont spoil it with an ugly font like this ... you could at least implement the possibility of using ones own font.

Edited by: Chrystyan on 15/12/2005 18:14:45 The new text is not wrapping in station name(top right). The name is jutting out into the window. Looks lame. I like the font, but make it wrap! Currently running test patch 3795. I am talking about when docked.

I am playing on 20" 1600x1200 TFT and the font is good if in 'wide' mode. It is way better than old one which was taking too much space especially in chat rooms.
I appreciate the font being much more compact as this means more information (specifically in wallet and market) can be crammed into less space, I can lay out windoes without losing columns like it was previosuly the case.

Edited by: Arav on 16/12/2005 04:23:47 I also can understand if they need some type of Unicode but I feel like my eyes are going to start bleeding trying to read the text. Many of the new boxes and option windows don't even seem fit the text properly.
PS. the rest of the patch seems great...

I concur that RMR is awesome and it's got a lot of stuff I've been waiting for.
However, I was not waiting for an inability to tell the difference between "2.0m¦" and "20m¦".
I am callous and do not care about people who need unicode, please fix the font.

"From other threads i've read the devs are onto it, so i'd guess there's no point continuing on..."
No, the devs are "well aware of the emotive subject of the font". That's all.
They've been "well aware" of it for roughly two months by now, and all that awareness resulted in was just some random skirting around the core issue -- two different versions of font scaling, one completely broken and the other being simplified version of that broken one... both utterly failing to address the actual problem i.e. the font being hard to read in its current form, due to the way it's designed.

All we need is to have a choice in a few different fonts.
Cant be very hard to implement, and will make many people happy.

Well - I for one have a major problem with that new font. I just cant read it as it is rather flurry for me. Using laptop with 15,4'' widescreen display @1280x800 resolution. I can actually get some stuff in chat windows, if I make font big, but item names and other game info (including menus) are just random collection of dots for me. It is not something of esthetics for me - I just cant read it no matter how hard I try. And this means that I just cant play (try using instas when you can't read them in 0.0). Items seem to be a bit more readable in CRT monitors, so it might be an hardware issue for me, but I really really would like old font (or font very very similar to old font) back.

It is still beyond me, besides aesthetics, which obviously should not be taken into account at all according to some people (still, it REALLY matters IMO!), why number- and text heavy game with numerous spreadsheets like EVE can live with such a font.
D, C, O -> only one small | (line) difference with the blocky RMR font.
I wonder if we just should not start a petition to replace the font or give us some more options.
Players already offered wise solutions: Give players an option to chose fonts, or use their own custom font, whatever.

On a sidenote:
Just used the Calculator.
360 / 130 (Cap Size / Cap Recharge on my Crusader, for rough estimation of recharge rate)
Result: 27692307692308
At least this is what I read.
The "." in 2.7692307692308 was not readable.
P.S.: No jokes about someone dividing 360/130 with a calculator, plz!

The new font is just horrible. It hurts the eyes no matter what size or shape you set it. Reading info screens and menus is hell. For God sake, make the old font at least option to choose. I played for 3 hours and my eyes feel like i have played for 18 hours. |

I just tried to write a petition regarding the font-issue, but only got a: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: print_charset() in /cgi-bin/eve_online.cfg/scripts/enduser/acct_new_mb.php on line 21
Nice ...
I'm not 21 anymore and the new font is nearly unreadable for me in tiny or even medium sizes (yes, I already got me some glasses). The "e" an "a" look alike, "&" and "6" as well and the letters stand so close to each other that the whole line blurs before my eyes. I got a razor-sharp TFT, not an old, blurry CRT-Dinosaur but even with the best equipment this font is nearly unreadable for me.
So, no matter what news RMR brings - I CANNOT READ THEM! This font is a disaster for all usability-efforts CCP ever made (if they ever cared about usability).
So please, please, please with sugar on top, please give us back the old font or let us at least select our favourite on our own! I get eye-cancer with the RMR-Font and will surely quit EVE when it's not changed. I do not pay 15 EUR per month to get a headache from staring at blurry writings.
Regards, a paying customer
