Hello all. I have a rather strange problem ever since the RMR patch. I've been having these 3 second graphical pauses quite often in the game and decided to get a stop watch and found that it occurs EXACTLY every 60 seconds. Quite strange. My frame rates are fine --about 20 fps-- and I've disabled every single program I have running while Eve is running so I can't pinpoint it to an app. I've run virus and spyware detectors and came up with nothing. I didn't have this problem before RMR, and no other app "freezes" like this every 60 seconds. Any ideas? I'm using a Geforce 5700 ultra card, have 1.1 gig of ram, using the latest Nvidia drivers (81-something I believe)...tried different graphical settings (including immediate interval) and got the same results.
Although this isn't a game breaker, it sure as heck is annoying. Perplexed, Callisto

Same thing is happening to me, and it's incredibly annoying.
3.2G P4, 2 gigs of ram, Nvidia 6800GT, latest drivers. It's funny, because it doesn't happen on my laptop (using a raedon mobile), nor does it happen on my work computer (with a raedon 9800).

Try opening the TCP and UDP on port 26000 on your router or firewall.

Oh my god... i was really confused for a moment here because after searching fruitlessly thru the forums, I sent practicly this very same post, word for word, in a question submission!
I have the exact same problem, every 60 seconds, on the dot, the game freezes. But to add to my friend Callisto's info, I've found that these graphic hitches start out un-noticable when I first log in. But after 4 hours or so, they are freezing my game for about 2-3 seconds at a time! I've put Eve into the background and used Windows Task Manager to look at the CPU usage. Normally it was at 60-75%, but during the hitches, the CPU use maxes out at 99%. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but to no avail, and I havnt had this problem in any other game.
I didnt have this problem before RMR either, and I used to have practicly the exact same problem back in World of Warcraft when i would use the Cosmos UI addons. Somthing about the script garbage cleanup function. But after better code writing that was resolved by the makers.
Its so erie, I think I said that same exact sentance about it not being a game breaker, but being annoying nonetheless.

Also wanted to add that I've tried all the suggested means of getting rid of this problem that I've found on the last 5 pages of this forum, all to no avail.
Including: Opening the previously mentioned ports Stopping one of the CPU processes Stopping all other non-vital processes Setting the CPU priority to high

Wow! i thought it was just me! I also have this issue with the game freezing for 3-4 seconds frequently.I thought it may be my computer, or lag or something.I notice it doesnt do it as much as when i first log on.The after a time of playing it increases.I hope CCP fixes it.Would sending my dxdiag info help or something?

no such problems here. Perhaps only newer GF-cards are affected?
Athlon XP1800, GF4Ti4200, 512MBRAM (very old drivers ) and Athlon XP3000+, Radeon 9600 with 128MB, 1GBRAM (latest drivers)

I used to have this issue.. the problem -
wasn't the game, was my Graphics card settings!!! For some unknown reason, my cards were consuming all available bandwidth & if this happens, your pc is gonna keep grinding to a halt as all other requests are put on hold til the card has finished doing what it's doing!!
The only way I was able to solve the problem was update my chipset drivers (try 3dguru.com) & default the card back to stock settings
One setting I had been playing with was the max screens to render which should be on 3 or 4 - Mine was on 8!!!
btw, this was using 2 x 6600GT's in SLI on an Nforce board, but also had similar issues with my old 9800pro (caused by me playing with too many advanced settings!!)
If this fails, you may need to go into your bios & reset to default as any one of those settings can cause havoc if set wrong.
Hope this helps

Edited by: Destructor1792 on 22/12/2005 12:25:32 forgot about this as well - check to make sure you're not pulling too much power from the USB ports & double check all your power needs (i.e. power supply output ~ everything you have installed).
If your pc is running low on juice, windows will prioritise to make sure you don't keep getting the BSOD & this will cause the fore mentioned 3-60sec pause.
Somewhere out on the web is a guide to work out what each device requires in Watts, so you can work out if a new PSU in needed.
Vague recollection is
5w per HD 15w per DVD/CD drive 20-30w per PCI card 100+ on the graphics card (depending on make) 80+ on ur processor (depending on make & model no.) 5-50w system fans & anything mods you've opted for 3-8w per memory stick installed USB is on the fly so whatever that uses as well
If you've only got a 350W PSU, you can see big problems looming. ______________________________________

This is caused by a memory leak in the client. When the client uses all availble ram it will start paging mem to disk and you will start to see pauses as the system writes to disk. For now what you need to do is close the client and restart when you notice this happening. EVE is working on a fix for this problem.

I've running the game atm & my system memory hasn't gone above 520MB (have 1gig installed) - if this is a game issue, then do a quick search of google for a free memory program called FREEMEM. With this, you can specify the amount of system memory you want to be kept clear (recommend around 20% of your total).
This will stop anything from swamping your system ______________________________________

I really don't think this is a standard memory leak, unless it's video memory. I run with 2 gigs of ram (as previously mentioned), and EVE isn't using a particularly large amount of ram. Although, it does tend to happen after I've been playing a while (generally points to a memory leak of some variety), it certainly isn't happening with system memory.

Well 520 ram does seem like a bit much... Eve rarely goes beyond 70-90 megs on my machine. However the ram in use dosnt change when the freezes become more pronounced, so it probably isnt a memory leak.
By the way, how DOES one clear the cache?

I just did a clean install of the new Nvidia forceware drivers. No improvement =(
And as a correction, my ram usage goes between 200-350 megs, but dosnt use more than that.
I sent in a request for assistance, and so far they only asked for my Dxdiag and a Pingplotter log to their server. Probably standard procedure.

same prob to me
forget tools like memcleaner ore other stupid stuff to fix ur windows.
Fact is: with RMR all going slower the server is slower the client use more memory and is eg. 50% slower than CW i use 3 clients (payed clients on 1 machine) befor RMR a had 20-30 FPS each noch i'v got 5-15 FPS each.
VERY BIG THANK for this wonderful present to christmas.
PS: Never change a running system.

1st, if ccp didnt change eve at all, what would we do? right, bore to death cause theres nothing new coming! so thats not an option, as a game company you simply gotta keep your games look up-to-date or your out of business faster than you can say 'damn that competitor sure makes a nice-looking game'.
to topic: you guys dont happen to be running some antivirus software in the background that keeps on checking for malicious function calls and stuff? and just to give a positive point: i have no clientside problems whatsoever since RMR, eve is running smoother than before, 2 clients with 70+ fps each on my 2.2 ghz athlon xp, 6800, 1g ram and winamp and opera and ... check your autorun (msconfig is your friend) for things you dont know, check the taskmanager for unknown processes.. fix your swap file to 1.5 - 2 times your ramsize, get a tool that disables kernel swaping (tuneup did that for me), disable the file indexing service, disable your screensaver.. thats all i can think of for now.. life's a game - sometimes you loose, most times other win. |

Edited by: Ramallo on 24/12/2005 09:20:11 Interesting. I've been having the same problem now since the RMR patch, but hadn't thought to time it till i saw this thread. I discovered that it happens to me every 53 seconds on the dot. I investigated further and found that during those 3-5 second freezes EVE's process is jumping from ~60% processor use to 99%. It's perfectly consistent.
Before the patch I never experienced this problem. I didn't adjust any settings on my system, or install any new apps between the two versions. Also, I tried disabling my virus scanner, and all other running apps to no avail.
I wonder what EVE does every 53 seconds.
edit: For the record I'm running on a Radeon 9800 Pro. Athlon 2500+ w/ 1GB RAM.

I have had the EXACT same problem on my computer.
My solution? Stop the wireless zero service. This may/may not be the cause of your problems, but after finding out that that is what caused mine, I even made two different batch files to enable / stop it when I would play eve.
Obviously, you need wireless zero to start with windows if you use a wireless service for the internet, but after my comp boots and a few minutes after windows loads, I hit the batch file and bam it's stopped for that session. So I would suggest trying to play after stopping it and see what happens....hopefully this will help.
Look here if you need info on stopping it (although their thing says how to disable it...) http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/2000.html
to create the batch file, just make a txt file with one line:
net stop "wireless zero configuration"
and save it as something like "stop.bat" (instead of .txt.)
to make one to start it if needed:
net start "wireless zero configuration"

Not Directly Eve related, but i used to get this problem on my laptop and it was caused by the wireless zero thingy. Fixed it by removing the crapy 3Com wireless software and letting windows deal with my wireless card directly.
If your not using wireless, just disable the service. .

I've got the same type of problems, but me it's 1 sec freeze every 4seconds..... and guess what, me too i have a Radeon 9800pro! :(
It's me or there is a REAL problem with ATI cards, and specifically Radeon 9800 pro???
We should try to bug report it all to ccp using logs of the monitor, maybe they can fix it.
