i`m looking at all these weird and wonderful names that players have in eve.do they represent somthink, is it just a name that took your fancy, did you deliberate for awhile on what to have, or like some people did you just shut your eye`s and type in. my name is me, i rarely say anythink to anybody, but these forums have mucked it up a bit.

Mines totally made up. Sometimes you can get decent names for mmo's by using your first or last name backwards, though this isnt the case with mine.

My first name is the root word in the etymology of my RL first name.
My surname is taken from the old chat name of someone who had a profound impact on my life like none other, one of those friends you don't have to talk to to feel her company (Evil Dove).
Together, they serve as something of an oxymoron, which matches my IRC name.

I have a lot more, ummm, respect, I suppose, for characters with 'realistic' names, or something that feels appropriate. Silly mixes (in my view) of letters and numbers (and I don't mean the random jumble that the macro-miners/farmers pick) just get ignored. FWIW! I just appreciate the effort sometimes, although I do get a laugh out of some of the choices.
Myself, I pondered a name for a while before I made this character. I threw a few words together to see what I liked, did a few Google searches looking for inspiration, and here I am.

Mine is from Chronos, the Greek god of time. I just mixed up the spelling a bit because it looks better this way. 26 is the date of my birth, 26th June. I regret sticking the 26 on now, numbers stuck on the end of a name don't usually look good...  Some people have much worse though so I'll stop my complaining.

When I signed up for Eve I dropped my old MMORPG callsign in favour of a more RP name.
Mine is made up from two sci-fi characters I like. I also like the fact that they are rarely, if ever, refered to by these names in the show.

Lt Cmdr Cara Thrace - Starbuck (Battlestar Galactica 2004)
Together they also fit in nicely with ancient Greek mythology. Telemicus, son of Odyssius, King of Ithica etc. Thats why a lot of my ships have names from Greek mythology, like my Hoarder 'Argo' or my Cheetah 'Nemo' (in Greek Nemo means 'No one').

Takitoo is the latest product of a naming scheme that is common throughout my whole MMO career. Ellah was a side character invented by Wolfgang Hohlbein, one of the better authors out there.

I named an Undead Warlock Intaki (after the EVE race) at first, but developed Altitis.
As for Takitoo:
In my old corp chat we had it about Takitoo sounding like a mix drink, once. My interpretation of it was being sour with some good kick to it. Most people thought it was sweet with a good kick, though. I resent that. Takitoo is not sweet.

There must be a lot of people out there that really regret their choice of name. It's probably about the most important choice you make in Eve: far more important than race, or starting stats. Your name is your identity for the rest of your life in Eve, and you're probably going to be here for quite a long time! I only expected to play for about 6 months or so. I've been here three times that so far.
There's a few golden rules when choosing a name to my mind. Your name needs to be reasonably easy to say and type. I don't want to have to try and say cZk11243 on teamspeak, for example. It's also good if your name abbreviates easily. Lastly, pick a name that doesn't sound completely out of place in Eve.
aLtCaPs just make you look stupid (and sooo 2002). Avoid numbers - just makes you look like an AOL user (apologies to [email protected]).
Oh, and my name? It's a song by a band called Black Heat. I liked the sound of it, and it seemed to fit a Brutor character. My main regret is not coming up with a second name.

Then come up with a second name, and include it in your bio. Our EVE names are only our pilot callsigns, some of us don't use our exact/full names for them (Magic Trev for Trevor Deveraux, for example).

I used to go by my real name on irc back in '95, but since it ends with an i a bunch of americans thought I was a girl. So I added the first letter of my surename at the end and people stoped asking me what I was wearing.
But, it's not that fun to use your real name when you're gaming so I reused the first name from an old Dark Future character of mine, Gugge Budgie, an added the surename D'ldoe because I have a very childish sense of humor. Gugge D'ldoe lived on for a couple of years but that joke is only funny the first 10,000 times so I decided to change again.
Normaly when I sign notes or similar informal papers I just sign them with and M because that's the first letter in my name. And since your name has to be at least four characters long in Eve I just added "Mr " in front of that.
(And it still makes me laugh whenever I get the chance to say "It's Mr M to you".)

I was making my character for Star Wars Galaxies two and a half years ago. I wanted something to do with space. So I decided on a constellation. Then I needed to come up with something as a first name, so I searched at dictionary.com at first, and near the bottom of the page I found my firstname. I threw in "La" from French, and presto! My character had his name. I was planning to use him for a short while and then make a character that I really wanted, my he grew on me, and I haven't been able to part with the name since.

Role Playing game with Models, anyway I was creating a Space Marine Chapter, and was naming the Special Characters. SyrafT was the name of the Chief Librarian.
I later used it for on of my Characters in Neverwinter Nights (an Evil Tiefling Cleric, played an online campaign on NeverwinterConnections.com).
Used it in other online games, Merchant Empires, DroidArena, and now Eve.
So in short, it means nothing, except to me

I've used this name in every MMOG I've played. It's roughly seven years old now. It works well for most games, however it's not the most RP-friendly name.
My only gripe with it is most people don't - or take a while - to get the pronounciation. It's basically "Lone Citizen" with the vowels in citizen removed. Hence "Lone-ctzn". However many people appear to read it as "Lonec-tzn" or something equally terrible. I usually use lone as abbreviation.
My favourite RP name, and the one I use for my alt, is Makepeace Fox. It's the name of a character in a (now) old game, Fragile Allegiance. I love that name, in a way I wish I'd used that, equally great PVP or Carebear name.
I really like Makepeace Fox. Just looks really nice, but that's me =)

My main (this) is named after a book with the author in fromt (dantes been the author inferno been the book)..this was the book i was deciphering when i choose my char name and it poed into my head
My industrial alt Jenn aiel is named after a peacful race of people in a fantasy book..thought it was fitting for a mining char
my R&d alt End oftime is a catchphrase so to speak of a villan from my favorite TV series.

Mine is named after an old friend of the family. He was best friends with a great uncle of mine in World War II, and when the friend came home and my uncle didn't, he became a part of our family.
They fought on the German side at Normandy. I thought it fit in with the Caldari faction, so here I am.
