ok... now i know theres been a lot of talk about how difficult this is.... and i think its bloody hard... for my liking but im trying to do it...all im after is some serious advice on "how" to do it solo... i dont have the luxury of having many corp mates or friends to help aid in my missions (all the time)... and i know ppl say they havne't had any trouble, which is BS when your using tech 2 ****...yea your most likely going to have a much easier time of it on high skills..... but enough of my complaining and stuff i need to deal and im trying...
like i said, i need some flat advice on how to do it... im using a scorp right now...and i've tried 7 hardners of all kinds and i still get ganked...i noticed using Therm is a must for missile damage... if u use anything else you dont get good damage... a raven would perhaps be better, as a scorp i know its not the best for missions but its the best ship i can fly right now... and i dont have tech 2 skills yet...
any setup suggestions would be awsome.... any advice would be brilliant...right now i found that using some large shield extenders are sometimes better then using shield harders, with 2 shield booster amps and a xlarge shield boost.. but i still cant take much... current setup with not the best skills is :
highs: 2 heavy nos 4 cruise launchers or 1 siege and 3 cruise
Meds: 1 xlarge shield boost. 2 shield boost amps 5 large shield extenders (gives me 14000hp)
Lows: 1 wcs 1 cap charger 2 pdu's
any any help would be so apreciated.. specially from the vet players... you guys know a lot... :) and thanks for any replies

Edited by: Jenny Spitfire on 02/01/2006 04:05:59 With the current mission, I have already lost 2 Ravens and given up on them, even took a standing hit.

But it is a bit buggy. One way, board a shuttle warp into location, eventhough if you die, doesnt matter. Fly your pod to about 130km away from the warp in point and make a bookmark. Go back to station and board Raven and warp at 15km which should give you about 145km. Lock and shoot. If a bunch comes to aggro, warp out when they are about 50km.
Heard this tactic work but I havent personally tried it yet so tell me if it does.

ps: drop the WCS, if you are going to die, you are going to die anyway. 1 WCS wont save you from 20+ frigates.

lol, well the part 3 is more like 56 frigs... and yea.. that was the only way i found i could do it... i warp in.. and had a bookmark soon as im there...i end up adding about 3 bookmarks or so as they fly towards you... so with multiple warp outs and few bookmarks... i techincly can solo it that way.. but there HAS to be a better way then that... thats just crazy... i would understand if it were lvl4 lol.. but not 3... thank you for your advice.. it was great...i have to believe its doable solo with more ease then this... we just haven't found it yet...and im guessing its going to take ppl awhile to figure it out...
Thukker Mercs : from what i saw... i think u need to use EM/Explosive/Kinetic Hardners and use Thermal missiles

Problem is their aggro bubble doesnt seem to "work" properly. More like, you aggro one, and their uncles, aunties, brothers and sisters will come and kill you.
Bookmarks are the only solution for now, but TBH, if we have to use BMs in this way, this mission is just bugged.
Angels mainly do explosive and kinetic but some do EM as well. Prolly one of the hardest rats to kill. ----------------

yep that they are... i found on that particular mission that they use all types of damage... as with a scorp, i have the luxury of being able to use 8 med slots so i can experiment, and pretty much nothing really worked for hardners.... and thats most likely because when 1 locks onto you.. they ALL do like you said.. you really do have to kill as many as you can... i was reading somewhere that drones set off rats in a frenzy aswell... so keep that in mind too when doing that mission, if i rememer correctly.. when i first warped into the 3rd part, not every single rat was on my ass till i brought my drones out for the frigs.. it was only about half.. the ones protecting that first gate didn't lock... but that might hav just been a delay... im still working on the mission... but i'll post if i get better intel...
and anyone else can add something... pls? lol

Dunno, I tried without drones and still I got mass aggro and gang bashed to death. No chance to tank nor escape really. After 2 losses, I just give up on all missions until things are more or less fixed, if CCP admits they are buggy. They do look buggy to me and as far as I am concern, they are buggy. ----------------

Those shield extenders are not helping you at all. I would replace them with maybe some hardeners and a cap recharger II to try to make your tank last alittle long instead of thinking more shields = better tank.

I don't run that mission anymore. It gets so boring sitting there waiting for the reinforcements to come. Also frigs drop crappy loot. The 1/3 atleast has a chance of a +3 implant.

You're dying because your tank sucks. On a Scorp, use this for your midslots:
XL C5-L Shield Booster 1x each EM/EX/KI/TH TII hardeners 1 Invulnerability Field II Shield Boost Amp Heavy Electrochemical Cap Booster
Cargo filled with as many 800 Cap boosters as you can fit. That'll give you a nice tank that'll last long enough for you to kill everything without dying yourself.

I'm sure you could get by on good named T1 hardeners, but I wouldn't skimp on the shield booster. The TII version is a rather beastly tank good enough for Lvl4 Right Hand of Zazz mission which is rather nasty. So I imagine you should be ok. The problem with using 7 hardeners is that you have no cap with which to tank with...

lol true... my cap was never really a problem.. the shield hardners supprisingly didn't take up too much cap.. its the boosting that does... was jus taking too many hits at once, as fast as i was boosting, the shields werne't getting repaired... but you gave me something new to try.. the big cap and big cap battery... so i'll definately give that ago.. i dont have the skills for either shield hardner tech 2s or shield booster tech 2s.. i'll have to train in those...money is becoming a problem too haha.... im jus screwed either way :)
your information has given me some idea's tho.. and thank you for your help.. i apreciate it

if 56 friggies are almost on top of you...
how does a setup with all smartbombs in the high slots work?
just to kill the friggies ofcourse.. I imagine a heavy cap booster would be needed in the medslots, but otherwise fit a tank.. not sure about lowslots, just PDU IIs for the shield and cap bonus I guess..
Or can the friggies somehow survive that? I would imagine that if you set them off at the right time, it would be a massacre, since smartbombs didn't get nerfed vs smaller, faster craft (as far as I know).

Edited by: Jan Riksma on 02/01/2006 07:39:20 Because i heard alot of you guys loosing BS on this mission i took my Harpy fitted like this:
High 4x 125mm tech2 1x arbelest standard launcher Med 1x Gistii Small Shieldbooster( You will need this on because a normal tech2 booster won't cut it) 1x Anointed EM Shieldharderner 1x Webber 1x AB tech2 Low 1x PDU 1x WCS
Set full speet at your warp out point, kill the webbing and scrambeling frigs first after that you will have no problem. Kill the groups 1 by 1. It still takes alot of time, no bounty, major faction standing loss but we still get the crappy loot.

Jump in with a Raven, Target every support Frig you can and take them out FIRST. They are the Scramblers/webbers, and once gone, you can jump in/out at your discretion.
There are maybe 6-8 of them.

you need a raven with only cruise em and exp, the best shield tank you can have
6 cruise 2 heavy noc em,ken, heat shield hardners II xl shield booster 2 cap recharger II 5 pdu's II
Wape in make sure you bookmark the beakon, kill the first group that target you while traveling away from the support ships they are you nex target when your far away as posimble these will warp scramble, then finsh of th rest.
Something to rember if you warp out and you need to warp back warp to the beakon at a distance that will keep you away from the support ships very important that you kill them but dont let them get close

You can also avoid the pod-bookmark thing by setting your default warp in distance to something else. For example, try to warp to any planet, choose warp warp at... and pick the set default distance option to set it something of your choosing (80 km worked for me). Then you can warp in a bit away from the frigates.
Also remember that the mission area is not deadspace, although it says so in your journal. I used a Ferox with a MWD to keep range and missiled the enemies to bits. Just make sure to shoot the support frigates first, since they web you. After that it's just a matter of time.

I do this every time I get the mission, and it's failed me twice so far--I ended up warping into the midst of them, but I've been fine so far in my Ferox. Just have to make sure to take out the webbers/scramblers and keep heading away from the group, even if it's only at 30 m/sec.
However, when it works, it works good. The first time I did the mission, I was able to creep to up to them, pick the groups I wanted to aggro and then kite them. Took very little damage that time and was unimpressed with the mission. The second time I warped in all super-confident and got a bit of a scare, but they never got my shields past 30% or so.
For you shield tankers out there, I highly recommend using a good Damage Control. Preferably an Internal Force Field Array, which gives 11.5% to all resistances, unless you can get a Damage Control II (don't know if anyone has the BPO for these yet). Damage Controls were worse than useless pre-RMR, but they're definitely a worthwhile piece of equipment these days, in my opinion. Only thing is that people WAY overcharge for them--I got mine for 8 mil on the trade channel, but I've seen them going for 60 mil, which is a complete rip off.
Don't underestimate the usefulness of nanofibers, either. :)

It's possible to solo this mission without taking any damage, just take your time and be in something a bit faster then a BS.
I soloed this mission in a Manticore, since it's one of the best ships to pop frigs in. Just get some distance between you and the NPC's and blow 'em sky high.
Take out anything MWD'ing first. The C1 and C2 supportfriggs are warpscrambling and webbing so they need to die fast. Any cruisers will also be MWD'ing. BEWARE! There will be random cruisers spawning, so keep an eye in the overview.
The setup I used for this was (if my memory serves me right)
HI: 3 x arba cruiselaunchers 1 x imp. cloaking II (not used, and not needed, just didn't feel like refitting)
MED: 1 x 10MN MWD II 1 x Sensorbooster II 1 x Small brief cap injector (didn't have anything else to put there, so it's a 'just in case' slot) 1 x cap recharger II
LOW: 1 x mcap 1 x bcu
May have been some small changes to the fitting, but main thing: use MWD and keep it running together with the sensorbooster...

Since my lvl 4 agents weren't giving any missions because they were moving, I decided to do some lvl 3's and as luck would have it, I got this mission. Luckily, I fly a Cerberus and had very little problems with it. I can see however, how this lvl 3 mission would give even seasoned BS pilots a very hard time. I just warped in and started firing at everything while I warp-aligned to a station, and took out the frigates as they came. For the record, my setup is:
5 DG Heavy, M Nos 2 x Gist A-Type small, 59% EM hardener, T2 L Extender, 10MN ABII 2 DG BCU, 2 PDSII
This is a pretty lengthy battle, especially for BSs that have a hard time against small targets, and I believe the key is to not run out of cap to sustain shield boosters/armor repairers. Because of this, I think that XL boosters should be avoided unless you can sustain it with a good cap booster setup. I think faction large or even medium T2 boosters/repairers with the right amount of appropriate resistances for shield/armor tanking will be more effective. I usually take out the heavy damage dealers (stabbers) as they get close, then back to whatever frigates are within web/scramble range. just my 2 isk.

Personally If you want to use a Cerberus - I find
5 t2 Assault , 1x named med nos
1x Gist b type large SB, 2x Mag scattering T2. 1x T2 / named med extender / and another passive hardener of your choice. ( found ist warp in Exp and EM . 2nd Kinetic . 3rd thermal. but its up to you)
4 t2 bcus.
use serpents or Bloodclaws.
This for me imho is the easiest way to do it - not enough cruisers to warrant heavies.
Any way just my 2 iskies

I solo this mission in my Ferox.
high:5 heavy launchers (named when I can get them, but I'm not picky) mid: afterburner, med. shield booster, med. cap booster (800s), 2x large shield extenders (gives me over 6k shield hp) low: warp core stabilizer (never leave home without it), damage control kit (can't remember the type exactly), nanofiber, and something else that I can't recall atm.
Basically, I just warp in at 80-100km, point my nose to the warpgate I've set up for my "oh ****!" waypoint, hit full throttle, target the nearest npc, and start blowing them to bits with either thermal (my favorite) or kinetic (old habits die hard) missiles.
The only ship I've lost to this mission is one of my Caracals. I just had to try it in a cruiser. Didn't quite work out though.

I've done the Thukker version twice now. Used a Retribution both times with: 4x Med Pulse II (UV for webbers, MF for others) ABII SARII 2xCPR. 1st time added energised thermal 1 and HSII to lows, had to warp once. 2nd time with some more training could use energised adaptive II and energised thermal II (69-85% tank? yes please).
I've never been scrambled, but then I've also never been below 1/2 armour, so your experience may vary. I gather the republic fleet officers (frigs with EM heavies) would *****through shields, but armour seems fine for them.
I think the collective experience of this mission points towards using the massive natural resists of AF/HAC to nullify most of the frigate gankage directed at you, and that BS not setup specifically to swat huge #'s of frigates=dead.

Edited by: Lauriers on 03/01/2006 16:01:50 to take out lots of frigs and cruisers fast you need a ship with a lot of small/med guns and a massive tank. I used a Megathron for this and had it done in about 15 minutes with no worries of loosing my tank. I think it was something like
Highs 7 250mm TII with antimatter 1 drone nav link (range thing) mids 2 drone tracking mods (they work real good!) heavy cap booster with 800 charges 100MN ABII (I think or it may have been a magno sensor ECCM booster I left in by accident) lows 1 large TII repper 2 kinetic, 1 thermal, 1 explosive hardener (all TII) 1 cap power relay
kill off everything you can at 15->20km and let the drones kill everything else

I tried this mission in my Inquisitor....... not only was I blown out of the sky in under 5 seconds but the Corp mate that was with me got blown out of the sky in 20 seconds... it's rough and the LvL 4 mission of the same name is impossible without a fleet 4 BS and about a dozen or so cruiser rats and a whole pot load of frigates... the trouble with this mission is the number of Missile frigs. 9 million SP and I still am not going to fly a Cruiser and you can't Make me! |

You need tp warp in, bookmark, warp out and back in at say 100km. Then get to where thyei either agro or you can start to damage one. then immediately turn and start running away. take em out as they close. Bookmark again and repeat. When you come back they ones chasing will be father out(near your second bm.) repeat as neccessary. EM resist is a must.

me and one corp mate did this mission in a prophecy and a cyclone. first warp in, we ganked the support frigs (scramblers) then we jumped straight out regardless of how well our tank was doing.
and thats how we did it basically. jumping in and out when it got too hot.
Just make sure you get the scrammers first.

Look, dude, Ravens are not invulnerable, especially if they're not set up to counter what the enemy's throwing at them. Just like every other ship.
How can you petition dying in your Harpy because you were scrambled? That...just happens. Harpies aren't invulnerable, either, you know.

Can't believe how many people are doing this mission with BS-sized weapons and then complaining about how tough it is. Soloed it in a passive tank Ferox, and had to warp in and out a bit (no I didn't do the shuttle trick) because I didn't have assault launchers handy, and had to kludge together an anti-frig fitting out of sub-optimal modules. Was never close to being blown up.

"omg!! so many frigs" well, using anti-BS weapons (resolution 400m IS anti-BS) weapons will hardly help there. If you go versus frigs, make sure to have anti-frig weaps equipped, small turrets and assault launchers help a VERY lot on this mission

Edited by: Stogee on 08/01/2006 14:53:11 Edited by: Stogee on 08/01/2006 14:50:20 I do that mission in my thorax with all tech1 gears. takes a while but it is possible.
I use 5x125mm rails 3x800 titanium plates med repairer afterburner
I warp in and bookmark various points around the deadspace. Basically, I warp in & out and killing one or two (using 5 hammerheads and my rails while tanking) and warp out. I warp to the station and repairer in orbit of the station, when done, I dock to instant refill my cap and undock. Warp in at another point.
Your main problem is the two stabbers. If you can lure all the frigates away and warp in near a stabber and take them out first the rest of the mission is alot easier.
Often I find I have to take out everybody else first.

Edited by: Sylaan on 08/01/2006 15:00:55 I used a warp core stabilizer and was no longer scrambled. So just equip one (or 2 if your paranoia level is high) and warp out if things get tough.

I solo'd it in a Caracal, all tech1, moderate named stuff. You need crazy range, and skill at kiting. The first caracal I used got hosed pretty decently, but I figured it out from there.
I only took out a couple of the support frigs. Took out all the cruisers and a few other of the unique named frigs, and the mission popped up as completed. Hit a few more frigs for loot and turned it in :) . Mission was overall merely break, or maybe in the couple 100k isk profit range with the ship loss. Overall I was lucky, but I've done the surgical target removal thing to finish missions before.
As for fitting (no tech II, just moderate named stuff): 5x Heavy Missile C5-L Med AB Target Painter Med Cap Reserve Sensor Booster I PDS WCS

I solo'd in a ferox:
5 t2 heavy launchers, 2 med nos 2 active hardeners, 2 large extender IIs, target painter (I, II or named) 2 pdu II, 2 bcu II
trick is to warp in at a hundred kilometers and get away before aggro. but attack asap. you have 10 minutes to kill first set of frigs, around 26 i believe, before next wave coems. 3 waves or so. if you cant do it or dont have this skills than just reject the mission. the payoff compared to the risk sucks, which is why a lot of people complain. i like the difficulty, makes it fun, but there either needs to be bounties or they need to double reward and time bonus reward.

I did this mission no problem last week, with each of 3 groups showing up after a time.. but now I got it again and it seems like all groups are already there when you show up.
Did anyone else notice it this? Even the first part of this mission which has timed groups changed.. Last week I had to wait for the next groups to arrive, this time they all showed up before I was done the first
I am sure this mission is bugged.
My Zealot eats frigs for lunch but now I cant cant even kill one of them before i'm into hull with 2x med reps running..
After 3 times nearly losing it I quit..

6x cruiselauncher II 1x EMP Smartbomb (named) 1x Kinetic Smartbomb (named)
1x XL C5-L Booster 1x Shield Extender II 1x Eutectic Caprecharger 3x Hardener (was thinking of 1 EM 1 Thermal and 1 Kinetic)
3x Ballistic Control II 2x Power Diagnostic II
I've heard alot about the mission being extremely difficult for a lvl3 mission so im thinking of doing it just to see what everybody is talking about.
I use almost the same setup, only difference is that i use 2x small t2 lasers instead of smartbombs.
I've found the missions quite easy with that setup.

Just got this mission and I will be running it soon. (Caldari version) I plan on using: HI 6x Arbalest Cruise Launchers 2x Medium Nos (might go heavy if they fit and I can afford them) MID 1x XL Shield Booster 2x EM Hardner T2 1x Therm hardener T2 1x Kin hardener T2 1x Inv field T2 LOW 1x BCU T2 4x PDS T2 I am just using drones that I have picked up as loot (all mine went pop in an earlier mission) 1x wasp, 3x hammerhead, and... uh... some other medium. I am using a Wrath cruise missiles I don't know what I will be facing in there though. Briefing said Thukker, Gallente, Minmatar, and Republic (is there any republic aside from minnie?)
Anyone know what I should expect when I get through the gate? Aside from a bajillion frigs. Are there BSs? Lots of cruisers? Any input would be helpful :D
*I do plan on doing the shuttle trick, but doesn't that mean that the reinforcement timer will start, so instead of being able to kill some then deal with more I'll have to take them all at once? Siggy coming soon... |

A lot of good advice here. I can't believe how people lose BS's. I am starting to think those people think they are invicible. I see ferox's and cruisers rarely lost, yet apoc, ravens going down all the time. Tactics, studying your combats logs and reading up on the npc types all help tremendously. Bigger is not always better gun wise.
Focus fire on those fast frigs first. Make sure your equipped to fight the npc's you are up against. EM, therm, kin, exp, high tracking, close range, align for a quick warp, etc.
I hope ccp does't nerf all these missions into dumm dee dumm
warp in, tank, kill. How boring. I might as well mine. I am solojng every single lvl 3 mission in my ferox including bonus stages. yeah it's tough sometimes and yes I've had to warp out occaionally, but that is what makes it intersting. I can't even fly a BS if that gives you any inclinaion of my so so skill points.

Why do you run Cruise launchers?
This was the setup on my scorpion.
Highs: 4 Heavy launchers 2 125 mm rails.
Meds: 1 large tech 2 booster 1 shield extender 1 amplifier 2 EM hardeners 1 Explosive hardener 1 Kinetic Hardener 1 Thermal Hardener.
Lows 2 ballistic modules 1 WCS (Insurance) 1 Damage Control Mod
You warp in.
Head straight out.
When you get aggro, concetrate all fire on the C1 and C2 support frigs. When they are all dead, turn around and wipe the floor with whatever is left.
Don't take the drones out until you have killed the first wave.
The last time I did that I activated my booster 2 times.

Why do i use cruise launchers?
Because I usually take out frigs with 1 volley.
I also use cruise to take out drones, if i use heavies it takes twice as long to kill them.

How do you do against very fast moving frigs with low signature?
Do you take out the bigger stuff so much faster that it makes it more worthwhile to use Cruise missles?
I always figured since the biggest thing I will see on a level 3 is a cruiser I might as well fit as a cruiser :/

If I have probs with any awkward frigs I use a bayfull of infiltrators and 2x t2 small lasers.

Done this several times, and it's pretty easy if approached properly.
1) Set your default warp distance to 80K 2) Warp to a different station, or gate to come in at a different angle 3) Standard Raven setup, only variation is 6 Assault Launcher II's + NOS 4) Warp into the mission at 80K, shred all the frigs 5) Takes a little longer to kill the cruisers, but after the frigs are dead, it's no problem.
Note on 4), although you set your default to 80K, you'll still come in close (25-40k) from one of the groups, get aligned and start shooting. ------------- Johnny Johnny

According to todays patch notes this missions difficulty has been decreased...
Has anyone tried it now? I want to know if i should bother accepting it.. the other night I did finish the republic fleet version of this mission, but it must have taken 5 hours in my zealot.. basically warp out after killing 1 frig or half a frig... :-P

Its normal lv3 diff now, not any harder than other lv3's. Hardest wave is 3x republic ruptures and 3-4 frigs.

This mission was easy as it was. I heard a lot of 'Ohh, i lost a BS in there'. I had this mission one time (one or 2 weeks ago). Level 3 Missions i do with my Cerberus, and this mission was not harder with it than others. I warped in, turned around 180¦ and flew with activated Afterburner (little more than 500m/s) away from the rats. During that i started attacking the closest enemy until i killed them all. Then i started looting before the other waves arrived. My fitting (i use this for every Level 3, also for Extravaganza including Bonus Gate): 5 Arbalest Heavy Launcher (XR-3200 will do it too) 1 Medium Nosferatu
1 AB II 1 Medium Shield Booster II 1 Shield Boost Amplifier 1 EM Shield Hardener 1 named Medium Shield Extender
2 Ballistic Control I 2 Power Diagnostic II

Originally by: Demarcus I lost a very expensive tanked raven on this, and a harpy the next day on a different lvl 3 mission all because of being warp scrambled. I filed a petition and have received nothing but auto responses for four days.
Subscription canceled.
Like I told ccp if I wanted to have to find a group to play I would do complexes, PvP, or lvl 4's. You can't solo a lvl 3 in a Raven? Such bullsh*t.
You cancelled your account because u lost a Raven? lol, stop whining then and go, if u don't look for a challenge then go playing halma or something like that. Everyone whines because of ship loss, so all will become easier, that really sucks. There are two nice hard missions now (Technological Secrets level 3, Enemies Abound Level 4), not as easy as other ones, and all the ppl can do is whining so that it will be made easier... Stop whining and die like a man... You can solo every Level 3 in a Cerberus, i do it every day, and I solo every Level 4 in a Raven too ...

I've now done Tech Secrets 3/3 post-patch and they definitely weren't kidding with the "difficulty decreased" thing. I actually had to wait several minutes for the second wave to arrive. No need for 100km warp in or any of that now--they've made it one of the easier missions.
Still, I'm happy, because Illegal Activity 3/3 actually caused me to run my booster on repeat for a while, which is a nice change. Whatever they did to the mission "tables" (or whatever), it's good because I had three missions that were totally new to me today.

Edited by: DarknessInc on 11/01/2006 17:51:01 Edited by: DarknessInc on 11/01/2006 17:48:51 I did this thing in my armageddon, got it from my LV2 agent. Took it on with a friendly stranger who was in a Omen cruiser. I didnt armor tank, but I had a large Repairor, and tanked pretty good until they had my armor bad. I kept warping in and out.
lv3 is defending the Research base right? It was fun, collecting loot. Stupid minmatar scum. :) fell to mighty amarrian weaponry
ohh. and I didnt complete it, and took ALL the units on, even when the two reinforcement cruisers came. They were the fourth and fifth to die
and I got this from a LV2 Amarr Navy agent in Nakri. :) so I had to fight a Minmatar Fleet
