Not.
Looking at the login screen shows that nothing changed. Thanks a lot for doing nothing to improve the situation at the font front.

I really liked the old "wide" font option, it was fairly readable and okay for me, the new "wide" is a disaster. ------

Well, if you hit "connect" your client will be updated and you'll notice the font has changed.
I, for one, love that I can see decimal points again.

New font isn't good either, the normal one is difficult to read on the laptop (that I use for my alt) due to being too tight and the expanded font is difficult to read because it's too wide (on casual reading I loose track of some words because the space between letters are too wide). When will we be allowed to choose our own?

The new font is horrible, its completely screwed over people who actually liked the old font (true it had to be used on wide setting to be okay)
im straining my eyes already trying to read anything in any setting on the fonts. wide is too wide, normal is to0 thin.
There needs to be an option for what you want to use, let people actually use their own one of choice or whatever.
Im hoping im not the only one with these problems, but im gonna stop whining

I preferred the previous font... That said, my only beef with the current one is that if you type a 2 followed by a . (for example, 2.00 isk), there is no space between the 2 and the . .. so 2.00 looks like 200. When I first logged on after hte patch to check a buy order I had put for nocxium at something like 272.99 isk, I thought I had made a typo and was buying it at 27,299 isk!

I think it's improved. Use 12 point and wide, and it's a lot better than pre patch.

Its just a font. Everyone is going to have individual preferences regarding it, in the same way everyone uses a different font in emails/Word.
Some will like it. Others won't. And that is about as far as this discussion is ever likely to progress.

I have no problem with the new font.
Looks great, and is easily readable which is what counts.

I never had (or have) any problems with font or font size.
Most of the time problems like that come from using a TFT screen (laptop?) and not setting the game in the setting that TFT requires. Simply because you didn't know you had to or because your comp can't handle the (probably) recommended 1280x1024 resolution.
The other option is people using to high a resolution on their normal tubes, making it look uber but needing a magnifying glass to be able to read stuff.

I'm playing on a 19" CRT at 1280x1024. With the largest font setting the letters are too narrow, the normal font setting is too small (but the width is good) and the small setting is insane.
Why can't the letter width at the largest font setting be like the normal font setting.
Also, the expanded width option makes the text completely unreadable (way too wide).

Good lord.
Patch the game again. Include every single font the game has ever had for chat and display for the last three years, and allow people to pick the one they want to use. Might cut back on the number of threads in the General forum by oh say 10%?

yes OFCOURSE it's too narrow!!!!
1280x1024 is NOT a natural resolution for a tube monitor... it does NOT adhere to the normal 4-3 ratio. for a tube you should use 1280x960.
for a TFT you should use 1280x1024, they're not in normal 4-3 ratio.

Also, I use a 22 inch, I use 1280x960.... 19inch or lower should (imo) use 1024x768
TFT's are either 4:3 or 16:9. Its just a fluke they chose a 5:4 resolution on them. I personally have no trouble with 1280x1024. 1024x768 on a 19" or lower? Whats the point in having a monitor with increased screen space and resolution if your not going to use it? Thats generally the reason why you move to a bigger monitor... 1024x768 would just look big and blocky.

That never works... you can't take a screenshot of how it looks like on a specific person's monitor.. because your only getting how your videocard is rendering the game, not how the monitor is actually displaying it.

Ok hate to be a spoil sport but if like me you run it in windowed mode you can actually, just take a screenshot of the desktop and voila.

Just a point of note, but change to wide, close the option menu, open it back up and all the text displays pretty much correctly, even the tabs... except one text entry box which mis-aligns...

That doesn't show how its shown on your monitor tho. Only how your videocard is rendering it.

I like the font this forum uses... even the small quoted text is very readable. I've not heard of any complaints about it, either. Hmmm...

I'm not concerned with how a monitor displays a video signal. My concern is with font rendering. The screenshot looks just as bad on other monitors. Visual evidence of the signal is somewhat difficult to come by if you don't display it... |

It SHOULD render the same on everyone's machine, baring some weird videocard driver issues. I personally think its difficult to read based on the font choice and what they've done with it, not on anything to do with errors in rendering it.

The new font is supposed to be more "multi-language" supportive. That's why it's been introduced. More than Americans and English play this game. Romanians, Chinese, Siberian, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, French, Korean, Canadian =P... they all need to be able to read too. That's why this font is here. It's capable of more languages than the old one was. *************************************************
