I agree with this. I would love to have my own "home" that I could furnish with things. Keep stuff. Etc,etc.
Rule 1. A fair fight is evidence of poor planning. Rule 2. There is no such thing as overkill. Rule 3. Pillage, then burn. Rule 4. That which does not kill you, has made a tactical error.

How about renting an apartment in a station?
Think of it this way, CCP is thinking of making planets interactive. That might mean that you will be able to walk on the planet as your avatar, and not just flying around.
Eventualy you will be able to go hunting on the planet, why not build your own structure on the planet?
Also how about those habitats we find floating in space? Yes they are not big, I know.

I like the idea, and clearly so does CCP -- Planned Features
http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/plannedfeat.asp
Individual Player Structures (aka "Housing")
Allowing individual players to buy, anchor and maintain their own housing module would enrich the EVE universe and serve as an easy bottom rung on the Starbase-ownership ladder. This could of course open up a whole can of worms, so weÆre proceeding with caution here.

This has been on for a long time, shortly after June of 2006, Oveur added this to the "Planned Features" - wish more was done about it.

There is a similar system to this in star wars galaxies, where every player has a limit to what they can put down but can put down houses and slightly larger structures to but that would be to much like a pos. But a good idea just so you can store your stuff in there and re fit ships as you need to. As well as maybe storing a shuttle there if its in low sec in case you need to get away from pirates.

Edited by: Rigo Kajjar on 06/01/2008 13:07:04 Space often feels empty, a bit of user made decoration would surely create more atmosphere.
Some of the cosmos constellations have very nice places, it would be great to have more of those, made by other players.

Yeah, with ambulation coming in the future along with planetary interaction well, you could have a nice ranch (heh) on a planet but lets face it, you wont be staying on planet for long periods of time, you still would venture into space so a nice home away from home would still be useful. I dont know, maybe on planet you could buy/rent a house/condo, or build your own home to your taste. But i still want my 'roid home or mini POS in space! and with ambulation, well, if you can walk inside stations, why should you not be able to walk in your own SPOS (Single Player Owned Station)?
Thank you all who have read and posted in this thread, i am sure all of our ideas are being considered by the Devs and on how to make them work.

Agreed, I would love this feature. Ambulation could make it even better, imagine holding a corp meeting with the directors around a table in your "living room" or something. Perhaps make it so you can store up to 5 cruiser sized vessels in a docking array or something. ________

i think that most of the relevant ideas for these have already been stated, so on to discussing limitations. per system, make your life easy. just make a static number that is equal to half (or 1/3 or 1/4) of the system's moons, and let these "roid homes" be anchored at said moons.
for creation, you dont need a new ship class. just a simple mining barge will do...make a script for deep core strip miners that leave the shell of the asteroid intact... bring along an "internal support structure" and a warp core (no sub-c engines... would make them too tactical). Make the size of the house dependant on the size of the roid (i'm thinking 0.0 veldspar roids. you?)
due to the nature of people wanting these in 0.0, i really think they should be able to have guns mounted. i personally love the idea of giving them module slots just like a ship, and i think regular POSs should be like that. maybe just a couple medium (POS) guns would do, for fending off the likes of anything smaller than dreads. high slots for defenses (shields, guns, cloak, etc...4 for smallish empire roids, 6 for low sec roids, 8 for those mammoth 0.0 roids), medium for all industrial based modules, and low slots for enhancements (gun battery tracking upgrades, shield hardeners, industrial enhancers...makes you really have to focus on one thing or another)
just my 2 isk. i support this idea in its entirety.

I don't like it. Personal housing Expand POS options for corps perhaps but personal POS will do nothing for the game but lag systems, isolate more players and cause real development to stall as people demand new features for their 'kool kribs'. Better to spend the time making better corp features or some interesting PVE spaces.

Or how about the ability to take over an abadoned structure in space. Such as a small mining outpost that was abandoned. Im not much on the bigger corps either would be nice to include us with a smaller structure we can inhabit.

Originally by: Matt Steel I had this idea about single player owned small structures, for example, a hollowed out 'roid where you could set up your home and stash your ships and stuff, either could be bought(price to vary depending on size of 'roid) or made by the player himself, new skills for that for sure, and who knows, you could maybe start your own bussines of making 'roid homes for sale!
You could have it outfitted with hi, med and low slots (amount to vary depending on size of 'roid) like any ship so you can fit weapons, shields and stuff (specially if you set it on low sec space) with enough space to maybe invite two or three friends to inhabit it or just have it all to yourself.
I dont know how many are there that do not like to be on corps and are a bit of a hermit, also, if it would be much of load to the servers and slowdown game play.
Just a crazy idea.
Its on the drawing board from this link -> Click here
It says in the relevent section :

I cant see this being implemented till the servers can handle several thousand "Houses"

if you had a hollowed out roid in a belt and a miner tries to mine it or someone tries to blow it up it should have its own hard points to place your own equipment on it so its similar to a ship but it holds your stuff and protects ya hehe. ----------------------------------------------- Drakeal inc. I'll certaintly support this idea. Many players dream of having their own little hideaway, but currently even a small POS is rather out of reach for a single, casual player. Such a tiny station would be excellent for stashing your loot/alloys ratting in empty 0.0 systems, and provides a base from which you can haul.
Of course, it can't be TOO easy to get. It would have to be a fair price for such a luxury.

good idea, i mean it would allow 14 day trial people interact with base building, mining, and colonizing, and see more into the game allowing the new people learn more about the game. Which then we'll have more people!!!!! Maybe more corporation wars :D!!

Edited by: Faizaniel on 13/02/2008 21:49:22 Why bother with independent structures when you could just allow players to use their own ships as interactive housing? This would eliminate the problem of taking up physical space with new stations, and also increase the incentive to preserve one's ship (really, why would a billionaire care about losing his battleship otherwise?).
