As mentioned earlier in a thread by a keenly observant player, a vast majority of CCP employees (and spouses) from all offices were on a trip the end of last week and the beginning of this one--many of us arriving back in the office today.
Timing of that trip could not be worse for us to address things in any sort of timely manner and we certainly would not want to do so without finishing a larger discussion and honing in on specific steps we could take to address things from a tactical level, a policy level and a communication level. That effort had its infancy with the change of the Ishukone Scorpion to a promo item way back when and evolved more dramatically with the more recent Gold Magnate/Guardian-Vexor offer (and lead to its retraction). However, the discussion wasn't considered over.
It has been vastly accelerated now since this weekend's developments and even more so now that the majority of people are back in our various offices. We are working with several departments on it since the issues cover a LOT of ground, especially the big categories of communication and incentivization.
We know you deserve a timely clarification from CCP. We appreciate the patience those in some discussions around the internet have had for us. We also understand the impatience of those that didn't. I hope that a collectively constructed devblog can happen by the end of the week that covers most of the issues that arose out of "SOMER Blink Gate", and have begun work with CCP Guard and several others around the company on it already before consulting the CSM and on to you all.
Special thanks to the online CSM members who helped with a few suggestions to wording here.

On a personal note, I wish I had carved more time out of my vacation to lend to communication on this, and I apologize for that. I spent several hours researching and answering media requests (TheMittani.com, Gameskinny and as the "CCP spokesperson" for Kotaku) and getting as caught up as I could remotely, but I should have at least blueposted that we were listening here and elsewhere and discussing things internally.
My job duties suggest that I'm the guy that responds to media when requested, but I should have made that a second stop in this case. We have since dissected things more and hope the newer update will put many a capsuleer heart that bleeds for the sanctity of New Eden at ease. ======== o7 CCP Manifest | Public Relations and Social Media | @ccp_manifest |

Clarification....often times when this word is use in advance of a statement, it's a prelude to an unrepentant release typical of past responses such as "$1,000 jeans speech" or "Watch what they do, not what they say" in order to show a solidarity between the offending parties/actions.
But, good luck! Don't ban me, bro! |

Well, thanks CCP Manifest. For what it's worth, I hope the devblog answers many questions that many of us have. It's good to know CCP are actually listening to us, and to the CSM, and any response to what's gone on should doubtless be carefully considered, as opposed to slapping a hastily thought up band-aid solution on a problem. Who knows, maybe you'll give us pandas? I'm joking. This post does not constitute, unless clearly indicated otherwise, a statement of policy, opinion or approval by my corporation, alliance or coalition and should not be treated as such. |

I have a bad feeling that all this will result in is a blog saying "we're sorry, but not really", no corrective actions being taken, no lessons learned, and leaving the sandbox permanently broken...

Stop referring to this as Spawning Isk.
What it really is, is giving someone a tool to take ISK from someone else. They do not get billions of unearned ISK if they sell the items, they get Billions of YOUR hard earned ISK.
Somer Blink is not a tool for the EVE community, nor a community website. It is an online gambling website. That is all. It happens to use an imaginary form of money, that can be both purchased, and arguably has real world value. |

Thank you for your reply in this manner!
As I've said before in a few posts, and will again here.
I have no issues with giving tokens of gratitude to members of the community who have done noticeable work in the community! With this I fully support past...present...and future tokens. It is your sandbox to do as you please...
The only thing I take issue with is the secrecy of the manner. As someone stated in another thread, a devblog giving thanks and noting a token of gratitude has been given is more then enough. In my personal opinion, if the recipient of said token wishes to share what that is, its their own doing... Support my (possibly dumb) Ideas!! Worm Rebalance!!! |

Would it be possible to have a list of groups that received IshScorps on a locked wiki page or someplace members of the community can use for reference that is regularly updated? It seems part of the concern and outcry over this "incident" was a lack of openness & transparency and from the general feedback I've seen this would be one step many people feel would be a start towards resolving the issues.
As time goes on would it also be possible to announce or at least say "Hey this site has been amazing at providing the community content/support for this (terrible) game we all love. We at CCP thank them for their hardwork and service and have awarded them IshScorps as a thank you."
I'm not certain is specific numbers are necessary, but at least explaining which groups, and why, would be a step many people would agree with. LeeSsang. Never Forget. |

I would like to politely disagree with Azami Nevinyrall and agree with A Research Alt. Spawning items for arbitrarily chosen player groups is wrong, whether done in secrecy or not. If CCP wants to reward people, there should be clear and public rules about who qualifies for a reward. Otherwise it's only going to lead to more accusations of favoritism with every new organization hand-picked by CCP.
(I would however still prefer keeping the "rewards" to spotlights, fanfest invitations and such, and out of the game. The less stuff magically appears, the better for the sandbox.) |

Much like the ToS debacle, unless there is something substantially erroneous in statements already made by CCP this is not an issue which requires further clarification, it's a problem which requires action and change. If CCP isn't going to do something to actually fix this problem, please just let the matter drop instead of further insulting your player base trying to justify it. |

What she said.
Just stop giving people transferable in-game rewards. Full stop. Just don't do it. What possible reason justifies purposefully choosing a more problematic option when so many unproblematic ones exist?
Don't clarify, just stop using a policy that cannot be implemented unproblematically and which has unproblematic alternatives that can achieve the same or better results. Heck, don't even bother going though a big review and apology, just stop doing it tomorrow morning when you get to work. One quick post, and problem solved. Thank you CCP Manifest.
While I understand there can be times when people are not available to tackle an issue I can't help but feel a simple post saying 'This is being looked into, expect dev blog on ETA' instead of just locking threads might be a better course of action. Make it seem like you care rather than just an act of damage limitation If I agreed with you, then we'd both be wrong. |

Thank you, CCP Manifest. Hopefully, with whatever you guys come up with, will muffle the continuous whine that has transpired over the past week so we can all start getting back to the ole regular gripes and complaints that we are accustomed to. You know, like AFK cloakies, Null Sec broke, CCP never listens, Goons being mean, blobs not fair, nerf the buff, buff the nerf, expansions never enough, bumping should flag, NPC corps not fair, ISBoxer is cheating, blah, blah, etc, etc. |

This. Done in secret, I consider this to be GM-player collusion which poses the question - "which other player groups get secret GM handouts?". Were it done openly, I would still be opposed to BLINK getting given things, but I would let it slide.
Also, there is a pretty widespread belief that this was a favor from a CCP employee that is personal friends with SOMER's directors. This could be wrong and CCP as a company may have honestly believed that SOMER deserved recognition for GTC referrals or some other reason, but given the history of GMs colluding to give at least one alliance tech 2 BPOs, I am not convinced. This seriously undermines the integrity of the sandbox - if CCP intervenes into the market for rare ships secretly, do they also intervene secretly into Alliance Tournament matches? Nullsec sovereignty fleet fights? Highsec freighter ganks?
What I want to see is:
- A list of all CCP gifts that have been given to players secretly in the past - A reason for each (such as 'GTC referral', 'thanks for helping Fanfest logistics', etc) - All future CCP handouts (possibly excluding trivial value items) to be publicised 7 days before the handout is made. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. Say NO to GM-player collusion - Boycott SOMER Blink |
