Once upon a time, there were a group of individuals who formed a group (a "corporation", if you will!) dedicated to protecting the ideas of freedom and liberty, as embodied by a document that provided for the limitation of the powers of government. Those individuals swore to support and defend that document against all enemies, foreign and domestic, bearing true faith and allegiance to the same.
Today, that corporation celebrated its 238th anniversary. To all those who have honored that oath, and served under that banner bearing the Eagle, the Globe, and the Anchor, I wish you all a very happy birthday...despite the grim status of the ideas to which we've sworn our lives to defend. |

Given the massive amount of immigration a good while after having declared independence and the tendency for immigrants to "stick to their own kind" (and then there's also the "slave thing"), there's a good chance a big portion of the population of the USofA can't trace back any of its ancestors to somebody who was alive around those parts at that time.
