As stated, game mechanics and issues therein outweigh the need for forum portraits, seeing as portraits work just fine in-game. Basically, if it boils down to the choice between getting it painted and keeping it running, everyone with a brain is going to keep it running before even considering a paint job. So yes, sitting and spinning is the order of the day, unless you decide that you can indeed be inventive with your RP as suggested.
It's not up to us if the car runs or not, regardless of which we buy. All we can do is cash in on the warranty. But it is up to us if we paint it or not.

But it's really not, thats the point you're missing. You're in essence, renting the car from CCP at the same time as 100k other people. They maintain all aspects of it, and as such, maintain the priorities as to what needs to be fixed. While you're paying the fee same as everyone else, if 5000 people want a paint job, but 95000 people want the motor to run right, which is going to happen? _______________________ ...Greetings, Starfighter. Alessandra, I actually do pay money to post on the Forum. Without an account, no posting after the trial period.
Sadly enough all the 'alt flamers' and 'post with your main posters' are quite often enough to kill a good thread, ending it in a clicky.
Recent server troubles have only hit me once as a minor inconvenience. Whereas every day I am confronted with the 'inability' to post with my Khanid RPG alt because I don't want to see that big fat ! to the left side, it deminishes my immertion. Image is everything.
To take your car example: you're saying that when a business man with a huge proposition to make money but you need to invest a sum steps out of a beaten down VW... people take him serious as the outside of the car doesn't matter? They would not.

Odd to see the RPG in MMORPG... what sets aside EVE from all the other games, is the fact that the game goes on on these forums when people cannot logon for whatever reason.

Originally by: t20 To shed some light on this: I recently re-engineered the way characterportraits get rendered, as rendering out all the new characters that came in per day was more the renderer combined with the directory crawler could handle. I'm handeling the rendering process differently now by splitting up the one monster task in 21 different tasks. All characterportraits with ending numbers 00 > 09 will for an example render out on mondays and thursdays.
the beautiful part about this, is that i only have 10 directories to crawl instead of 100, giving me LOTS more time to spend on rendering than on actually crawling directories with +10000 files in them.
what used to take 26 hours (and because of downtime, could only be 23 hours MAX) now takes, through this splitting, only a mere 8 hours, but spread widely over half a weeks time.
So to conclude, I would say that instead of instantanious rendering, your characterportrait should, in the next coming week when we've had a full cycle of the new system, render out in the upcoming 4 days of your character creation.
What happened? Is something borked with the new bloodlines? I haven't seen any of them rendered yet. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

Oddly enough this character is rendered. Its spot was taken by another character that I recycled, and a day later I had my face.
Very weird.

I've been patiently waiting 2 months now for my avatar to appear on the forums and this is really starting to bug me.
Why are there no avatars on the forums from the new bloodlines yet? Could someone from CCP please shed some light on this?

Portraits are kinda at the SEVERELY INSIGNIFICANT portion of the heap.
Sorry, I disagree with you. There is a quite a big RPG and Politics community on Eve-O forums and when I cannot play for real, I 'play' on the forums. Portraits do matter in some of the sections like the Intergallactic Summit, Corp and Alliance Summit, Corp and Alliance Discussions where a for character portrait oft results in flames like "Post with your main" or "STFU alt...".
Eve Forums are such an important part of the game, that Portraits are important as well.
No, not really...
Any bashing comes from immature players or people really stomping on RPer's in general. Your Avatar has little meaning here on these forums unless you give it so and to be quite frank doing so puts you at the bottom of the food chain not at the top.

Its not the end of the world and to be honest don't hold your breath. It will get here when it gets here. ( I have a 2 month old char still waiting as well so don't think I am being selfish )

No.. Image is everything to you. Kaylana Syi is still using her avatar from 2005. My Khanid char has the ugly ! next to it for past 2 months. Do you see me heckling the DEVs over it? Why? Because the lowest common denominator, your precious RPing, takes a back seat to the problems. Got a problem with it? Start an outside forum website. Nothing says you can't be in character at another IP address.

Nowhere on the box does it say this game is an MMORPG. However it says and I quote, "A MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE GAME."
Sorry to break it to you and don't think I am playing semantics. You want to RP then more power to you but its not in the contract, its not neccessary, and it was nevery branded as an MMORPG.

A poster has no influence of what other post. And it is those posts that can and do result in bickering amongst those who are not contributing. On a good day it leads to a Mod cleaning the thread, on a normal day it just leads to a Clicky.
If your Avatar is a ! it does have meaning... I've given examples of why, if you disagree give me examples of why it isn't. Without it, it's just your opinion. _

Never? ORLY?
Open up your browser: type in www.eve-online.com (heard of it?), then check the title bar. Says MMORPG right smack there. It's also been referred thusly by the Devs and what-not.
Anyway, it's semantics. I guess they initially wanted to call it a MMOG to distance itself from all the crap out there (and MMORPG would conjure up images of orcs, cute things and you know..)
Oh, and on topic: I plan on switching portraits as well and it does suck a bit that it won't really have an effect except maybe Soon(tm).

Eve Forums are such an important part of the game, that Portraits are important as well.
Read in context that the "extreme insignificance" i referred to is in reference to the other vastly more important issues of the game, such as playability ...
Alessandra, IÆm afraid youÆve been severely misinformed. You see, there are more than one employee working at CCP doing jobs that range in scope from public relations to maintaining the website to coding, etc. Consequently, the work to improve the gameÆs ôplayabilityö does not have to suffer at all if and when the work to update the forum portraits is being performed. Armed with this knowledge you are free to start (or participate in) another discussion thread that focuses on issues that most concern you.
I hope the above was sufficiently clear without resorting to car or fruit analogies.
P.S. Six and a half months since paid portrait swap and still no change in the forums.

Yup same here, this is causing CCP to look a bit silly I must say...
Don't they realized that it doesn't look good on their capability to run all this if they can't get something simple yet important like this done?
