I'm done with this game. I've already transferred several billions in assets to another member of BNI who was just about the only tolerable person I've met on this game so we can skip the "can I has your stuffs" replies.
People love to announce they're leaving Eve, and I'm happy to join the club. The skill training queue in this game is about the most foolish implantation I've seen in an MMO. To achieve reasonable revenge against those who repeatedly gank you, you just have to hold off for a year until you have the skills to fly a ship of moderate caliber against those who go after you. I finally realized that waiting a year was not worth it. I don't mind PvP games, I've enjoyed them when they're about skill or done in a balanced environment. Eve provides the opposite of a balanced environment and one gets sick of never being able to punish people who agress you for no reason. I also don't really consider ganking my industrial as I put through low-sec or what not as "PvP" so much as "Pv." I figured no big deal, I would train blockade runner. Then I realized I had to spend a month training that and that's a month I can't dedicate to combat skills or anything else. That's right, I have to give CCP $20 and wait a whole month just to make my character capable of running away.
It's a very creative business model, honestly. You prey simply on the hope that things will get better and one day, two years later, for doing nothing at all but paying CCP $15-$20 a month, you too can be effective in PvP which most companies work to ensure is plausible for players in the first place.
Oh well, I don't really have anything constructive to say. I was playing X3 Albion and I realized I was having fun playing a game... And then I remembered that I used to think playing MMO's was also fun, until I started playing Eve, and then I was just playing because I wanted to make the jerks who make the game so frustrating to play pay. However, after careful consideration, I realized that, not only is it really not worth waiting around for a year for, it's also a huge waste of real life money that I could be spending on MMO's that don't suck by being unwilling to reward active playing of the game.
At least I can take solace in the fact that CCP called you all evil when they named the Eve Gate after, well, Eve. I tend to agree with them - I've never played a game that really brought out the worst in people in a video gaming environment. |

My go-to ship for PeeVeePee is typically Hurricane. Sometimes I'll throw down in a Scythe for frig fun roams. Neither took over a year to skill into.
I thinks, this complaint is less a "skillpoints" issue and more a "skill" issue. Anyway, best of luck finding a game you fit better. I think your problem is you're doing it wrong. If you look at eve in a "skills/assets" to the rescue methodology you will always be on the defensive. I dont know what kind of weird sh*t you're into lady, but if you dont pee in the hippos how the hell do you know who serves first!? -á |

Nah, I really expected the hauler to get ganked. But I'm the kind of person who, no matter how many skill points I have, I'm not going to gank that industrial going through low or null. Honestly, ask the corp, I gave away 5 billion ISK in assets - I'm not so much worried about the fact that my industrial got ganked in null (shocking) so much as I realized this game is a giant waste of time that isn't very fun. I do. 20mil SP means jack-all when only 2 mil of those SP are relevant to the hulls/fittings at hand.
It's OK though, I understand that, for some people, it's important to transfer a personal failure away from self. Kind of an immature coping mechanism, but whatevs.

It also requires, as you would have eventually found out, real world PvP skills as well as character skills. Think of it like this...Ever arrest a guy red-handed who then spent the entire ride to the pokey blaming everyone but himself for getting busted?
Same diff here, only EVE GD is more like the naked guy high on goofballs, standing in the middle of the playground, screaming about the Goonspiracy after copiously wetting himself.

I'd encourage you to give it another try. 4 million focused SP can definitely beat 20 million SP. The hardest part in this game is figuring out what you what you like and what you want to do. Sure you won't be as flexible as someone who has 20 million SP but you can pick and choose what you like then do well in those areas. Eventually you end up being the 20 million SP guy. Another rut people fall in is "grass is greener" it won't be better after you train that skill and you need to once again figure out what you want to do. I have every confidence that if you were flying around with 20 million SPs and I were flying around with 4 million SPs, I could trivially curbstomp you any number of ways.
The thing about having a lot of SP is that you only get to use a fraction of them at any given time. |

OP has conflated NICE with GOOD. What's this nonsense about stuff you gave away mentioned just after claims that you would never gank a hauler?
NICE is a false self presented to be pleasing. It's an infantile way of dealing with people. GOOD is genuine and consistent in the face of trials. That's why nice guys finish last. It's the insincerity that scares people off.
I've met loads of lovely smart friendly and competent people in eve, you need to get out more.

There's more to life than being the biggest and best. The fact that Eve is alive, vibrant and constantly gaining subscribers despite gameplay mechanics that almost harken back to the MUD days says they are doing something right.

OP, please tell me who you gave your stuffs to, so I can go and see if I can haz some of it from him.
Also, Blockade runners can be a lot of fun, some people might think all there is to PvP is pew pew, but they are wrong.
Here's some lovely examples of PvP in Eve that do not involve blowing people up:
1) Masterminding a market manipulation scheme that nets you billions while other players are paying through the nose and getting hosed by it.
2) Infiltrating a corp and robbing it for every penny they have, then awox all their shinies with your friends.
3) Dodge a 20 man gatecamp with your blockade runner, wave at them in local, then come back and do it again.
4) Work out a highly profitable set of manufacturing lines, setting up regular purchases from people at cut rate prices, then sell your goods at a premium.
5) Sneak into enemy held territory in a cover ops, and steal all their relic and data sites from under their noses, then escape with your hundreds of millions in phat loot.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. And none of these things require a single skillpoint in pew pew skills. Personally, I have done items, 3, 4 and 5, and hope to work out something to do number 1 on that list at some point. |

You win the math fail of year award if you think 4 million SP has a chance against 20 million. But maybe you're just a complete dumb dumb.
Im sorry its your math that actually sucks. I was blowing up 2 year old chars with 1.5 mill sp and if you dont beleive me check my KB and yes they were solo without rem reps.
The skill queue can be a pain and in the olden days you could start a char with sp for combact, science and pvp.
However having a moan cos thats what you are doing is like a 13 year old having all his playboy mags taken away.
You joined a **** alliance which are constantly being whacked by war targets and null pvpers who have actually taken the time

If your going to leave log off dont come back. On the other hand you can start a fresh, look at the game and actually read and learn again. Quoting "you will die" in EvE is fail Chars dont die in EvE. Unless you have a heart attack eek

Dear Op, if you made 'several billions' in five months of playing, you are doing something right.
Also, (as I am not sure and cannot be bothered to check) it does not take a year to train all the relevant skills for a Frigate or Cruiser to level V.
Anyway, I never want players to leave the game (apart from Erotica 1) so hang on in there, Eve is worth the pain. This is not a signature. |

Quote:However, after careful consideration, I realized that, not only is it really not worth waiting around for a year for, it's also a huge waste of real life money that I could be spending on MMO's that don't suck by being unwilling to reward active playing of the game. That's what he's complaining about in a short quote. Paying Gé¼15/month for a game that doesn't asks to be played or rewards when it is played. Everyone knows (he too I think) it's possible for a very focused character to have a chance against others. But that still doesn't mean it's worth his Gé¼15/month to have such a limited character while the competition asks less with more freedom what you want to do with your character. There's even games like Rift who don't ask any money and allow you to switch roles with only 3clicks so that you can adapt to what you want to play or what your group of people need you to play. In EVE he could do the same but he'd have to spend a few hundreds of Gé¼ in alts. He doesn't see a reason anymore to pay so much money for one game while other games can give the same or more for less.
So all you jokers in this thread may find it fun to pay multiple alts, idle around in low/null sec and look at a skill bar blinking every second. But OP doesn't and I don't see why you need 4pages and still fail to read what he said. Competition gives games for lower prices, games with a more content and games with a lot harder PvP. That's why EVE has bad subs compared to the number of people who want to love the game. The number of people that trial the game because they love the promise but quit after seeing what's given, is dramatic. |

There's a certain type of player in Eve; everyone in 0.0 will have seen him.
They constantly run PvE sites by themselves, never go on corp. ops, never engages with the team unless he wants something
His requests are numerous; can he get his stuff out to 0.0; can he have a ship; can he have ammo; can he have access to corp. hangar; can he be rescued again from npcs that have him scram'ed.
Then one day, that guy tries to run his stash of fat-loot back to empire, usually in a t1 Hauler and usually at peak time. Two gates into a fifty jump journey he's nobbled by a lone Kestrel and his base stupidity is an embarrassment to the corp; sometimes he's warned, sometimes he's fired.
To the guy, this just adds insult to injury. Wah! Not only did he lose his stuff, the team which didn't help him be stupid has the bare faced cheek to give him a bit of a ticking off too!
In order to justify his idiocy to himself, the guy then goes on a rant about how everyone in eve is a horrid beast, the game mechanics are faulty and the company that has run the game successfully for a ten year period is a laughing stock in game dev world. Feeling 10ft tall after telling everyone what he thinks, guy quits.
A few hours after quit thread goes onto page 2, everyone forgets him.
But if he's lucky, a few years later, whilst gate camping or mining and in amongst the chit-chat and banal banter that stems from a few hours of mundane activity, someone in the TS will say, " Hey! Do you remember that guy, what's his name? Lost 20 bill's worth of pirate loot in a Hoarder? Came onto TS, screeching and at one point was actually crying!"
Lots of laughing ensues and even the new guy who wasn't around at the time will go, "Har Har! What an absolute truncheon!", before going off to solo rat in a juicy anom he scanned down an hour back. |

OP, i'm sorry you've decided to leave eve, but i think you've missed a key point of this game. if some group or individual ganks you, team up with other people and go after them. that's the point of a MMO - to work in groups. in doing this, you'll not only have back up for pvp, you'll learn more about the game and it's intricacies and in the process, meet some entertaining folks.
as far as the whole "i'm a noob and can't compete" argument, it simply does not hold water. a brand new pilot can train skills that will make him/her viable in combat in a few days. this avatar is 4+ years old and i spend a lot of time flying frigates and tackling - because it's fun!

It's the best design decision in an MMO, ever. I think its a honest system that just shows that Eve is a game about timers. It's a tricky system since it looks like it's about timers, when it's actually about weighing cost against benefit.

Perhaps you should play a game where u have to consent to pvp, so can pick fights you will win or stand even chance of wining? (FO and play WoW).
And IMO the best and worst thing about this game is players like you that expect some kind of utopian space-society where they are free to build their own sand-castle without the mean kid kicking it over. (rants are painfully dull, tears taste sweet) So thank-you for adding to the content by being another hapless lemming, although your quit could have contained more rage.
Unfortunately this sand-box only contains clumps of droppings mixed with tears. |

Guys op is clearly an EVE expert. Why on earth would you argue with someone who is so obviously educated on everything EVE.
And after only 5 whole months... He is in fact so well informed about the game he figured out a way to play solo and be hugely successful. Oh wait.
Anyway the guy is a wow scrub. He despises EVE because it's reminiscent of his high school years where all the big bad bullies took his lunch money and spilt his milk. . Oh and grr goons eve is drying |

OP, i'm sorry you've decided to leave eve, but i think you've missed a key point of this game. if some group or individual ganks you, team up with other people and go after them. that's the point of a MMO - to work in groups. in doing this, you'll not only have back up for pvp, you'll learn more about the game and it's intricacies and in the process, meet some entertaining folks. as far as the whole "i'm a noob and can't compete" argument, it simply does not hold water. a brand new pilot can train skills that will make him/her viable in combat in a few days. this avatar is 4+ years old and i spend a lot of time flying frigates and tackling - because it's fun! i would urge you not to give up, but try and find a group to work with. you could always join us.
Hear hear!
I'm not going to insult you or try to provide some of the , ah, "tough love" others are doing but you need to realize a few things:
1: Eve is a *social* game. You are in BNI, a large group of PvP oriented casual players. It should have been *easy* finding other players to help you get revenge, or at least die trying! I'm a recruiter for RvB. This didn't happen because I'm some kind of amazing combat pilot (I'm decent, but that's it) but because of my attitude and social skills.
2: Attitude matters: you have to adjust your perspective. People will engage you in combat *just because they can* and that is OK! Don't take it personally, that's how the game is. I remember the first time I lost a ship to someone - an atron while I was bumbling around in lowsec. I had *tons* of time to get away (the guy was in a *raven* for crying out loud)... but I didn't, because I was new and I didn't know what I was doing. Boy was I mad! Now I look back at that and laugh!
Sure some players do it "for the tears" - but if you learn to not care so much, you can just shrug at losses and move on. You can also learn how to avoid many (never all!) of those losses. And no, you don't need to become a tear harverster yourself - I think this obsession with tears is silly personally, but oh well.
3: Why am I telling you this: because EVE is *amazing*. Sure the interface is a bit clunky, sure some of the players are jerks. But it's the deepest, most compelling game out there. There is nothing else like it. It takes a while to "get" it, but the rewards are great. |

OP, it is a shame your individual experience has been somewhat less than optimal for your enjoyment purposes. I actually liked seeing you, as lonely BNI representative, flying around NPC Delve - hence my friendly overture in local the other day.
I sometimes think that large corps/alliances tend to breed a false sense of security (I won't say entitlement, although I'm sure that also applies in certain cases) within the rank and file membership. I'd urge you, should you ever return, to consider a joining a small corp. Through necessity, being part of a smaller corp builds self reliance, strong membership bonds and true team working fleet skills. In such an environment, even the newest player can play a decisive role. Into PVP & looking for small gang focused, NPC Null corp? Check out The Nyan Cat Pirates!

Why do you keep summing up EVE Online's General Discussion forum in 2 sentences? Damn it! Hmmm...
1- Confirming that OP is right. I'm rage quitting EVE as well, I don't like to play with other people just because, errr... well, everyone here in this game (but Chribba) is not trustworthy;
2- Confirming that EVE is dying, slowly... err... I mean, it's dying since 2003, my bet on that time was 2 years and I have not started playing in the launch waiting for that to happen. As I was waiting a too much and was not happening I subscribed in 2006 to be eyewitness of its downfall. Whatever... I'm a very patient guy. I will wait more 20 years if I need;
3- Confirming that having no brains cells to burn will make your experience playing this game not that enjoyable;
4- Confirming that I can't do anything with my other alts that have 2M SP or less, they are there just to give me a feeling that I can trust someone (see Nr 1 above);
5- Confirming that I will be playing Star Citizen, at least if I didn't fall for a scam there as well, happened to me in Jita once and I was skeptical in giving them my money upwards, whatever;
6- Confirming that Lotro is making a LOT of money and Turbine only changed to F2P just because they have a huge sum to give up to the community, same as the folks that give isk away in Jita; and
7- Confirming that I'm a moron. No, I'm not impersonating anyone else, keep that ban stick away, I'm quitting!

People love to announce they're leaving Eve, and I'm happy to join the club. The skill training queue in this game is about the most foolish implantation I've seen in an MMO.
The skills are set up the way to keeb nubs out of the game. Who wants 12 year old kids crying and running about. I have enough of that already working at a Pizza shop. I dont need that in my game.

Except that a 4 million sp character does have a chance. At that point you can have 1 mill in gunnery, 1 mill in tanking of the appropriate type, 1 mill in navigation, and 1 mill in other core fitting skills. Fitting meta3/4 mods with a dcu 2 on any solo combat capable frigate can lead to a very mean ship. Will it win a straight up fight against another character with higher sp in an identically fit ship? No, but it doesn't need to.
Eve is a game where 90% of pvp is picking the fights and 5% is actually fighting (Don't ask where the other 5% went, you don't want to know). Both pilots try to engage only against ships that they have advantage against, at ranges that benefit them.
This character has 6 million sp, but I can guarantee that it performs better in pvp than my 21 mill sp mission runner. I hate to disagree with you,-ábut there is nothing subjective about "boring" in connection to "mining". -á-á-á-á -- Solstice Project's Alt |
