qft
empire whatever
but start shutting gates down in 0.0 will create alot more unhappy poeple than anything else.. plus it gives away the location on fast moving big gangs which "was" very possiable to do before this "patch"
nice way to **** up the game guys.

Please, place those messages a little more in the middle, bigger and maybe red or yellow ? It's so interesting if in YF-T6Z, 35 jumps away, gates are closing.

Edited by: Sentani on 03/03/2006 20:38:01 theres allways gona be tade hubs in eve... ALLWAYS...
theres no point in figthing it... CCP should go with the flow and put the trade hubs on separate servers to make the stress on the other servers lessen...
oh and the traffic system thingy is just annoying...
the traffic reports probably add more lagg then they take away ____________________________________________________________

that is a feature?????
Till now i thought it was a bug or something
seriously REMOVE IT NOW instead of making this game better you have manage to go one step behind
I have been stuck in a system twice with my industrial character and 3 times with my pvp one,
the first one did not bothered me as it is just a mission BUT while you pvp and your gang members are 1 jump ahead requesting emediate(spelling?) backup and the stupid gate does not work because of traffic control( btw there where 10 people in the next system) SUCKS.
yesterday i got stuck in a hostile system, and they camped me from both gates with bubbles, because they had the time to do so
FFS this must change

Originally by: babyblue That's too true, but if the developers want to implement a player cap on systems, then they should just come out and say it.
And if that becomes a necessary strategy, they should also stop running promotions like the one at Christmas and the P^2 thing, which only load MORE characters into an already-burdened cluster.
The idea behind the feature is understandable, but the poor execution is not. |

lol - I thought this was a bug too
Teach me to read patch notes more carefully I suppose.
I would wait to pass judgement on the idea until it's bugs are ironed out as it obviously isn't working properly yet. If it is working the way it is supposed to then it does need scrapped and re-thought out by the looks of the comments here.
1)Making people take even longer to travel - bad 2)Getting someone stuck on a gate they MUST jump through to avoid death and they have relied on the fact - bad 3) Stopping people getting somewhere they need to fast for PvP purposes - bad
Imagine your POS was getting assaulted and you couldn't get in to defend it

folks keep calm, the only reason why we are seeing this traffic management thing is that the patch is borked. i am very sure we would not see any gates closed with the current server population if the nodes were working properly without the memory leak ....
So i am quite confident, that once the patch is debugged, the traffic management is something we wont see until the population has doubled or trippled ________________________________________________ Some days i loose, some days the others win ... |

Worst feature ever. After the server upgrade we hadn't any jita-stuck problems and now they introduced this, a cludge, a fubar hack job. FFS.

well instead of travel restrictions would you rather have 10000 stuck msgs from omgf jita crashed?

Edited by: xStormwingx on 03/03/2006 21:15:11 The concept looks good on paper, the idea makes a whole lot of sense...
but once you put it ingame it all goes to hell. Logging on now gives me the willies cause for all i know, the next 0.0 system out could be on the same node as jita/rens/ours and then a toooooonn of enemies come at me from behind.
I'd be wtfscrewed.
Quote: well instead of travel restrictions would you rather have 10000 stuck msgs from omgf jita crashed?
It's not like it happens a whole lot...and besides, new servers! \o/ (I'd rahter be stuck in a system and have escaped from an enemy than sit at the gate and get wtfpwnt.) ---

Yes. The effect is the same, but instead of one crash a month with 200 ppl trapped we have 1000's stuck right now.
Crappy solution to a problem that doesn't even exist post server cluster upgrade.

I agree that current traffic management is poorly implemented - abitrarily set limits always do. What would work better is jump gate fees into busy systems as long as bypass routes exist. The fees should not be large and might be in the hundreds or low thousands of ISK, perhaps dynamically adjusting to the number of people in system, but they would discourage mass clumping in a single system and could have a roleplay basis. The way to control things like this is economically because right now it is economic combined with geographic factors that are making the overloaded systems overloaded.
Another possibility that wouldn't require any tolls - higher sales taxes that dynamically adjust to the amount of traffic that a system has experienced in the last week, increasing the cost of doing business in high volume systems and distributing attractive prices, and therefore traffic, to other systems.

I like it in theory. The practice isn't working well, but I suspect that has nothing to do with the traffic system and is more to do with the lag caused by the window pops that keep querying the markets etc every time someone docks, jumps, whatever. This increased server strain is causing lag spikes which are then, in turn, firing off all the traffic warnings (which are prolly working perfectly properly).
Additional options to the map/autopilot are a must in my humble opinion though and the fact that they are not part of this patch is my only real disappointment in CCP atm. --------------------------------------------

I'm on a trial account, and I was planning to purchase the game. After this "Traffic Management" thing, I doubt I will. It's just too cumbersome to get around. The lag is far worse now than it was before, as well, in my 8 day experiance.

Well, on the face of it, the idea wasn't bad, even if the requirement for it after the cluster upgrade is somewhat questionable.
The problem is that it bears all the hallmarks of being severely rushed, leaving us with a poorly thought through, poorly implemented, and clearly partially executed fix to a problem that was, as I have said, not wholly present to begin with.
While it may, in future, become neccessary to have such a system in place, it would be advisable in the meantime to remove it, it's spoiling the game. If you do feel the need to put it back in again, please take the intervening time to redesign it. Thank you

No. The Hardware was fine. For the week or so we had it before Bloodlines was loaded on, it worked.
All the messages are indicating is they ballsed up the patch -- Olenir Theadorvin, Director, Cygnus United. Views expressed within the forum do not necessarily represent those of the corporation. They certainly do not represent the views of a sane man |

either way I hate it, its probbly causing more lag then its taking away, making 1000's of people stuck because they can't jump instead of just 100's stuck that can't move.... Big stupid problems, should be removed imo, or at least at bare minimum, make it a LOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT less sensitive, I still vote on the remove it
