I think it provides a much-needed realism to EVE Online and an incentive for mission runners in heavy traffic systems to get the hell out.

No, I dont... We dont yet have a way to trip plan a route AROUND these systems. My starter agent has sent me through Jita twice now to get to the other side, to deliver goods. Until that game mechanic is in place ( exclude busy systems) etc, then NO. --------- "English doesn't borrow from other languages. Oh yeah? Well in that perfect world where the sky is blue, the grass is green, and the women all look like Naomi Watts, what do you do when your agent sends you into, not through, a closed system for a task?

seems the obvious next step.

Wasn't the OP stating that he thought it added realism rather than created a perfect world? Surely more realism would trend away from perfection than towards it?
I do agree though that this could potentially be problematic. I try to work for agents who are a good distance from the busy systems, but storyline agents keep sending me back there. Its one thing to make the effort to avoid the busy systems and reduce traffic there, but its somewhat counterproductive if CCP just send you back.

Why not just implement that if a player has a mission active within that system, they are allowed to enter?

i hate it...waiting 10min when you have to pass through there only...bahh, before the patch the server handled 417 ppl in Jita...without much lag...so i dont understand the need for this.
First make new ways around this systems...then do what you want, but not this way.

i just got stuck due to this new traffic control system thing, i thought, when i read the note about it, that it would stop people jumping into Oursulaert, Jita and Rens on mid-sunday afternoon's (when we normally get messages like "JITA IS FULL DONT GO THERE"), i didnt realise it would stop me going through a stargate into a system that was lag free but had, dear lord!, nearly 100 people in it.
my personal opinion is this new system is not pointless, but either too strict or bugged. the new hardware has as far as im aware eliminated the lag we were getting in busy systems which called for this new feature, so why implement it? too much too late. -- Sig

its a fact that not many are willing to pay for "waiting"....CCP add alternative routes to avoid this bottleneck systems...and more autopilot options to avoid them... (should had happend before the patch...)

Exactly. Even Tank CEO increased his Sec for the opportunity. He was camping a gate into Jita last night, targetting all the passing indies in his Raven. This "feature" is idiotic.
A Travel Advisory is one thing, but a Travel Compulsory is quite another.

btw: if you don't like hubs, you are losing one of the immersive aspects of the game. Jita feels like a busy bustling city.
Lag was a technical problem, not a gameplay problem. CCP have tried to solve it with a gameplay solution and imho it's going to be one of those here today, gone tommmorrow features.

another thought i just came up with as i was blankly staring at the 'your sig was too big' message that has replaced my sig pic..
you're looking for realism in this game? additional realism?..
i was thinking the other night while watching Firefly, an awesome space based TV show, where at a busy, bustling space port (episode 1) the market type place was surrounded with visitors and space ships, everyone coming to one place to do business, thats where the opportunities are...
everytime i enter Jita, it reminds me of that scene in Firefly, not everyone (25k..) is there but a hell of a lot of people are, its where business goes down.. if you need it, its probably for sale there, if you wanna sell it, someone is probably there buying..
Jita, like Rens, Amarr and Oursulaert, are unofficially the main hubs in the game, the place to go to get what you want, it is unrealistic for a seller to go sit in some random pocket of the universe and hope a buyer comes along, what IS realistic is a hub where business thrives and visitor turnover is huge..
following the same point, we only really had problems with these hubs on busy sundays, the pinnacle of activity on the servers, with 600+ visitors and the old hardware, the tests pre-patch of the new hardware had some 800+ people in jita, the majority of which were in 1 place, shooting at a dreadnaught, with the only lag being my now aging Raddeon 9800pro struggling to load the graphics.
activity with this many people in one of our major hubs i dont think will cause any problems, lag related, even this coming sunday, tho time will tell. the new traffic system is not currently needed. maybe in the future when Jita holds 2,000 bustling buyers and sellers, gankers and carebears. -- Sig

Blinky dont for get if your moving a fleet through those areas and lets say theres an enemy on the other side... You guys go to jump and the gate locks out half your fleet while the guys that managed to get through get BBQEDHARCORE.
Its probably gonna be gone fairly soon.

So are traffic jams. Q-E-D. If you want an "immersive metropolis", be prepared for the long lines and waits that come with it.

Something i would do if i would on the competitors pay list... a great move to make people spend more times with family / singleplayer games. That, the window apearing bug (tried to fix it for 1h today, with a couple methods), and botched tabbing.

That's too true, but if the developers want to implement a player cap on systems, then they should just come out and say it.

Great.
Thing is, a random system in deep 0.0 could be on the same node as a busy Empire system. Without warning, you cannot exit via a gate. You get sniped. This sucks, since you did everything RIGHT. The game jusr basically slapped you in the face.
It means that travel in the face of the enemy is suicidal.
And it means that people will cluster MORE, causing the problem MORE...it's counter productive in the extreme for the purposes of spreading people out.
At the very least, we need a clear display on our screens which gates in a system are NOT working, in big red characters, so we can plan our movement.
