What wonderful guide! This will obviously mean lower prices for the stuff due to more people but it reduces the isk flowing to large alliances and that is good.
I have a question tho. Lets say I was ratting and perfectly aligned. How much time do I have from when someone appears to when they can start the lock?
When I see them they are coming out of warp. I am wondering if this speed is the same or is faster with high warp speed setups (I assumed that was max not speed at start or finish)
And the time if someone decloaks on me. I figured if he has MWD on at that point I have a mere second or two but how much do I really have? |

Radar sites are definitely worth it. a single Radar in nullsec can yield you 20-100mill. in lowsec, ive made about 60mill doing a 2-3 casually. from my experience, 400dps from Wardens (plus another 130 from the blasters) is overkill for any BS. i prefer Gardes for Serpentis or 2-shotting any cruiser/bc rat, and a single omni would not help much.
Endeavour Starfleet wrote: This will obviously mean lower prices for the stuff due to more people
maybe, but it requires some time, commitment and skill to make the Ishtar work in nullsec it's definitely something to aim for.

generally you'd want to prevent this situation by scanning for combat probes or being extra cautious while doing anomalies (i dont like doing them in busy pipes). let's say you were not able to avoid this. if it's not a recon or cloaky t3, you'll see him on the directional scan as hes approaching. this is a good time to warp out. if youre perfectly aligned, and you see him dropping out of warp, you have about 3 seconds before the warp animation completes and you're locked. if a cloaky t3 or recon uncloaks beside you, you will get locked very quickly and bumped off alignment. at this point you have to sic your ECM drones on him and try to warp out before his buddies arrive. if you dont have ECM drones, and you were not able to prevent him uncloaking next to you, you cant do much except try to kill him.
thanks, and like my first few posts if you liked the guide so it stays on the first page |

Ive been trying my hand at some exploration lately, and i could use some advice. This char is trained for amarr, and some drones. In LS ive tried a pilgrim, but its extremely slow going because it can only use medium drones. Then there is the added difficulty that i am looking for blood raider and sanshas plexes exclusively, so active tanking is hard to do.
Could you think of any amarr (or any laser based like blood or sansha) that would do well in the same assortment of plexes as that Ishtar of yours? (i have a scanalt who has all the hacking equipment, so every slot is available on the ship running the plex.

a speed tanked Zealot and the Legion would be your best options unfortunately, with the Sacrilege being close behind (although limited by ammo). a speed-tanked Sac would have an amazing tank against Angels and would do decent dps with HAM's.
Blood Raider plexes are a ***** because of the neuts if youre going the Zealot/Legion route, you're best off doing C3's (something the Ishtar cant do well).

I hadnt really considered the sac yet, tho it would require me to train for hams :/ When i get on later today ill fiddle around with eft a bit.
About the C3s, i do those in my legion occasionally, but i want to see if i can get up to the point of getting my own bhaal/nm bpcs and mods, just to see if i can :) |

Ninja Plexing in Guristas space is fun and extremely profitable. And you get the added bonus of sticking it to those meddlesome Goonies.
Don't forget to use expensive implants to make your active tanked 2000 ehp Ishtar plow through those plexes even faster. |

Incorrect. There are a number of 10/10 which can be soloed, but most of them require a well fitted marauder or faction BS, and those are neither cheap nor very sneaky. A noteable exception is the 10/10 Serpentis plex, which can be soloed in a tengu or an ishtar without a problem. But... it is 10/10 afterall, so it requires time. I would say between 1,5 and 2,5 hours, depending on your setup and whether you do the side rooms or not. So naturally, there is a greater chance that somebody will pass through the system and get interested in you.
Endeavour Starfleet wrote: I have a question tho.
If somebody warps to you, you got about 2-4 sec. from the moment you see them on your overview until the moment they can start locking you. Then there are another 1-3 sec before they actually get the lock (depends on the ship). So if you are perfectly aligned and somebody warps to you, you have plenty of time to warp off to a safespot or a celestial. Of course, thatGÇÖs assuming that you are awake and you are paying attention to what happens on your screen.
As far as I know, warp speed rigs donGÇÖt increase the speed with which you exit warp. However, smaller ships seem to be exiting warp faster than larger ships GÇô I am not 100% sure of that though, itGÇÖs just a feeling that I get.
If somebody decloaks close to you GÇô a covert recon, covert t3 ship, or a covert ops frigate - you have 4 to 6 sec before he locks you. ThatGÇÖs more than enough time to escape if you are aligned and paying attention. If you are buzzing around with an afterburner on, it will be VERY DIFFICULT for a recon or a covert t3 ship to sneak up on you and bump you off alignment. Their speed while cloaked is 2-3 times slower than your speed with an AB on, so getting in a good position for a bump is quite hard. Covert frigates can be quite fast while remaining cloaked, but they are fragile and you can easily jam them with ECM or kill them with light drones (if the frigate has a covert cyno, you better warp off before you get locked ). As the OP already said, keep an eye out for probes. Another thing, not sure if it was mentioned already - remove wrecks and cans from your overview. ItGÇÖs easy to miss a decloaking enemy when your overview is full of crap.
An important note about decloaking enemies: Stealth bombers are the only ship which can warp to you cloaked and then lock you down in a second after decloaking. Their tank is miserable, but with the right setup they can still hold you down long enough for their buddies to arrive. So watch out for those. If a bomber gets a tackle on you and then you see local going up, donGÇÖt bother setting light drones on it GÇô get the ECMs out and try to jam it.
Ammzi wrote:I don't know if someone else said this but you got some of the game mechanics wrong. Never warp off and log if you just interacted with a bubble. 15 minutes of lovely aggression - they will probe you and kill you.
QFT. If you get shot at or you try to warp inside a bubble, you start an aggro timer GÇô 15 minutes. You log off before those 15 minutes expire, your ship stays in space for another 15.
Also, unless they have recently changed timers GÇô your ship stays in space for 2 min. after you log off, not 1. Gate cloak drops after 30 sec. not 60.
A nice guide overall. +1

well, i guess i was referring to the Ishtar alone. i dont think i'd recommend sneaking in a marauder. and you must mean a passive shield Ishtar? this sort of setup would not allow for dual prop needed for sneaking and speed/sig tanking. my active Ishtar definitely cant handle anything more than an 8/10. is there a setup i'm missing?

keep your setups as cheap as possible (t2, meta 4 only). wear cheap implants in case your ship gets popped inside of a bubble. practice your coordination lots in quiet lowsec. and you wont end up on the receiving end of this mouthbreather's KM
but yes, i fully agree. Guristas plexes are by far the easiest, and Gurista space has yielded me billions. Stay away from the congested regions though.

i dont have any experience with Matar ships, but i can comment on a few things. to safely do lowsec plexing, you need two utility highs, one for probe launcher, other for cloak. to tank nullsec plexes, you need an AB, but you also need the MWD to survive.
Vaga can handle lowsec plexes if you're willing to risk getting caught in a gate camp (without the cloak because you cant fit it, unless you wanna drop one turret). for nullsec, you may be able to do it in a dual MAR Hurricane, but i cant guarantee the mwd-cloak-warp trick will work on a heavy ship. and the Cane does not have T2 resists, so you would be greatly limited by that.
the reason HAC's are ideal is they can sig-speed tank a lot of incoming DPS. Your best bet would actually be the Muninn, but DPS will suck. the main issue with all three ships, however, is that you'll have to aggro the ENTIRE plex because of your poor range. Loki would do well because tank would be good, but you'll end up in an expensive loss mail sooner or later.
for now, i would recommend low sec until you know what you're doing 110%, have alts, and can comfortably use the Loki. |

Makes perfect sense, and after trying a few fits in EVEHQ I can see how the Ishtar is uniquely suited for your purpose. That large drone bay really makes a difference. Over 48 days for me to fit and fly your Ishtar, however... ugh. |

ive got nothing for you you really need two utility highs for probe launcher and cloaking device. you can use the Sac in lowsec if you arent worried about gate camps.
Pilgrim is your best bet for ninja stuff actually, but i dont think you'll be able to do anything 6/10 or higher.
i know this is turning into a huge Ishtar advertisement but only the Tengu does it better for 4x the price. |

Hmm yes. I tried to EFT something to help the guy but nothing. Needing two spare highslots for cloak and prober cripples dps on Zealot and Sacri.
I know people do lowsec radars and mags in Pilgrim. It could likely also do 4/10 and maybe 5/10 for racial resists. |

Interesting stuff. I've played at exploration and a WH or two, but never really looked at it seriously until the last couple of weeks. Sadly, most of my combat skills are in Caldari mission runners (Nighthawk, specifically), which could probably handle the tank, but doesn't seem to have enough slots for dealing with nulsec effectively. |

nice guide but your ooow so wrong about mag sites......
i do them a lot and they drop anywhere from 1 to 15 enhanced ward consoles (once i got like 32 from one site that was jackpot)
15 x 18 mill = 270 mill for such little time to do them...(and dont forget the other blue salvage that drops also has a nice value) i rather find radar site total crap
i get around 150+ of these EWC a week (and not counting the other salvage ) = 2.7 bill + easy

I would like to ask experienced opinions on Pilgrim vs Ishtar. I've been experimenting with a Pilgrim, but it just feels like I'm missing a lot of DPS... I don't have a fit to post (at work), but it's fitted for pretty much any exploration site (Sisters Core, Analyzer, Codebreaker, salvager, rigged for exploration)... Thoughts?
ps: Saw OP's post on Tengu, hadn't considered that for low exploration cuz I'm not sure about losing an 750mil ship... ;-) |

Not sure where I saw it, (probably in this thread), but I was wondering if that is still viable? And if not, why?
I personally like not having a cap penalty from the MWD, which is why I bring this up.
very interesting. i'd have to test this to see if 1) you get more tank out of it, and 2) if the mwd-cloak trick is possible. the only advantage i can think of is getting more speed tank out of it, but tbh im not sure if it would make a difference for the really tough plexes anyways. you can either a) **** the plex, or b) get raped by it if solo....i havent run into something in between. in addition, after the patch, you'll be going 400m/s slower compared to the mwd. nonetheless, something like this? -snip-
Alright, for starters, sorry about the long response time. Just a brief hiatus while skilling for the Ishtar.
Now onto address the 100MN AB Ishtar itself: The biggest reason I can think of for ditching the idea is the align time. ~Somewhere along the lines of 30 seconds. Yikes.
Cap is also drained but I figure you should be pulsing the AB anyway, so maybe it's a non-issue.
Also, I find I don't need the RCU if I use a meta AB, along with 200mm autocannons. I keep the co-proc from your original fit, and switch the omni for an analyzer, due to the more balanced loot tables making magnetometrics worth doing again. This fit with my admittedly bad fitting skills.
The MWD trick should work just fine, I mean, an oversize AB is a MWD minus the sig bloom but with a larger gain in align time.
But in the end, this is all just speculation. (I haven't actually gotten into the ship yet) Feel free to test it out at some point, and let us know how it goes. I don't always post on the forums, but when I do, I prefer posting with my main. |

Great topic here. Nice to see someone actually sharing their way of making shiny iskies in a fun way although it also means more competition for you
2 questions about MWD + Cloak trick.
1) I do : align then cloak then mwd and after reaching proper speed ( >75% ) I start spamming warp and hit decloak. I'm getting a message that I'm in warp or that I cannot do that while warping ( spamming warp button ) but it still takes about 3-4 seconds before actually warping out. Is it just decloaking animation, during which I cannot be targetted, or am I doing something wrong?
2) Between dropping gate cloak and activating onboard cloak I can be seen for a split second on the overview. Can some ship actually target me during that time?
Thanks in advance Tom |
