This is a brief ninja plexing guide. I would like to share my experiences and tips with newer players, and perhaps with those veterans who always thought about doing it. Im not claiming that im the best ninja plexer out there, but the knowledge presented below has helped me get rich while having fun. I have lost many ships to learn the information below on my own.
What Is Ninja Plexing?
Ninja plexing is something you do when you wanna make the big bucks, but dont necessarily wanna bother with alliance politics, or a corp. It involves "stealing" cosmic signatures from nullsec alliances.
Why Do It?
It's thrilling. Ninja plexing combines the profits of L4's/WH's with the adrenaline of potential PVP. It's some of the best isk you can make solo, without multiple accounts or multiple characters.
It's profitable. When I was grinding L4's to replace my ships lost in pvp, I was counting my profit in tens of millions: "Oh great this mission will give me about 30 mill. Aw shiet, I'll only pocket about 15mill after this mission". Now, I'm counting my profit in hundreds of millions. If I'm not making at least 100-200mill in 1-2 hours of gaming, I'm wasting my time.
It's casual. I'm doing this because RL does not allow for grinding to replace the expensive ships I lose in pvp. You can explore and plex for an hour, sometimes earning half a bill, other times 50mill. But it's all on your own time.
When Am I Ready?
You are ready when you have a good understanding of nullsec dynamics and EVE players' psychology, and when you can outfit a HAC with a sustainable active tank while doing 550 dps.
Next Level Master Ninja Level 90 Ship Outfit
My experience is only with the Ishtar, so I will speak only to that. Can you do a better job with a Tengu? Hell yes. But you will be limited by ammo, and ultimately by its cost. You will lose it sooner or later, no matter how ninja you are. Getting caught in a GOOD bubble inevitably leads to an expensive death. The benefits of the Ishtar are:
- not limited by ammo - agile - cheap (150mill for ship and full t2 fit) - resists ideal for Serpentis and Gurista space - excellent dps and range
3x Light Electron Blaster II: these babies are essential for reaching and passing that crucial 550 dps mark) Core Probe Launcher I: Sisters' launcher is unnecessary as it is possible to find almost anything with Sister probes alone Prototype Cloaking Device I: essential
10MN MWD II: essential not just for the mwd-cloak trick, but also for traversing sometimes-huge distances in plexes) 10MN AB II: required to speed tank the tougher 8/10 plexes Codebreaker I: for radar sites. you only need hacking III to open the highest level container 2x Cap Recharger II: to run your AB, MAR and hardeners almost indefinitely (omnidirectional tracking links are simply not required as explained below)
2x N-Type Thermic Hardener N-Type Kinetic Hardener T1 named CPR MARII
2x Medium Sentry Damage Rigs (essential to maximize DPS)
5x Hobgoblin II 5x Hammerhead II 5x Vespa EC-600 5x Garde II (max 538 thermal dps; works well up to 36km; essential to take down some overseers, and smokes Serpentis) 5x Warden II (roughly 400 kinetic dps; hits at max lock distance which should be around 75km; essential for Guristas)
Next Level Ninja Sneaking
MWD-cloak trick is used to escape any lowsec gatecamp, or any small nullsec gatecamp without bubbles. Don't think you know how to do it. I thought I could figure it out on my own and I ended up losing 2 Ishtars. This guys tells you how http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uBcK_c8Gy4&feature=related. This trick is done perfectly by the Ishtar using the T1 module. You don't need the Improved Cloaking Device because unplated HAC's are agile enough. Practice, practice, practice the following sequence; you must have the muscle memory to execute this with your eyes closed:
1. jump in 2. select your destination, hit align 3. wait a split second 4. hit cloak before the decloaking animation completes; your bracket will flicker on overview; they now know where you are 5. immediately after hitting cloak, hit the mwd 6. right before the first cycle of the mwd finishes, hit decloak while spamming the warp-to button 7. you will know if you are successful when your ship begins warping off well before the decloaking animation completes |

How to Make Ninja Levels of ISK
This part is difficult because greed will totally **** you up. You can make a shitload, or you can basically break even if you keep wanting more. I've learned from my misfortunes and came up with one rule: Never travel around with more than 200mill in your cargo; if the pipes are congested, log off, do something else, and go back to empire later.
Do only Radar and Combat Sites. I do not recommend Magnetometric Sites because more often than not they are a waste of time compared to the former. In addition, T2 salvage prices have been nerfed to the ground. Radar Sites are a source of steady income. Each nullsec Radar Site takes about 20 minutes to complete and yield 20-50mill. Combat sites are based purely on luck. a 6/10 DED can yield 500mill, while an 8/10 can yield a measly 150mill. non-DED sites yield tons, depending on your luck with escalations and drops. Escalations can take you into unfamiliar pipes; do not get greedy; wait until the off-hours to delve deeper into the unknown
Do Sanctums only when there is nothing else to do. These can yield 30mill just from the bounties, and about 150mill if you get a faction spawn at the end, and a good drop. Anomalies are extremely dangerous to do because nullsecers can warp to you in seconds, and their mere presence will often interrupt your grinding. Look for Combat or Core Probes on the scanner. If you see them, gtfo to a safe and cloak up. In general, I would not recommend doing anomalies with even just one person in the system.
So You Got Angry Bees After You, What Do?
You aggroed a nullsecer, he told his friends, and now you've got a mouthfoaming nullsec gangbang after your ass. They're sealing all the exists, popping bubbles at every gate, and their covops is on the way. What do? If you understand the psyche of EVE players, you will do just fine. When you're in someone else's house uninvited, someone will spot you sooner or later, and care about it. You're essentially stirring a bee hive. They've got comm channels, they're out for blood, and there will be an unseen flurry of activity mere seconds after someone starts giving a ****. Warp to a safe, and if you don't see any Combat probes on scan, log off for a while. EVE players, while thirsty for blood, generally have ADHD and will go onto something else within 15-30 minutes.
You're being chased.
Ooops, you're now in a bubble with half a bill of loot in your cargo. First thing, remain freaking calm. Take a few seconds, and accept that you're dead. You have 60 seconds before gate cloak drops. Until then, theyre clueless. |

I'm curious about this part. I've read the rumors that if you logoff/quit/kill the client in space your ship can remain in space. Ive yet to find a recent confirmation as to how long it stays active (if it is true). Is that what you are refering too with this comment? |

When you log off, the ship does an emergency warp to one million km away from where you logged. Once it arrives, it hangs there for 30 seconds or 1 minute depending, assuming you don't have a player aggression timer in that system. Once that timer is up it vanishes from space. You get a player aggression timer by being involved in pvp; either you activated a hostile module on an enemy or they activated one on you, either does it.
If you get to the safe and there are no probes on scan yet, then they don't know exactly where you are. By the time they get the probes out, organized, pinpoint you, and get a ship to warp to the result you'll be long gone. If there are probes on scan then there's the possibility of them getting you before you vanish. PVP is a question with no single right answer, but a lot of wrong ones. |

Would you recommend storing your loot (at least the valuable bits) in an anchored container, and coming back for it in a cloaky hauler or a covops? |

if you can get an anchored container in, and extract little bits of loot at a time with a covops, then sure. however, i would not recommend bunching up all of your profits in a cloaky hauler. transport ships get popped all the time in nullsec, and you dont wanna lose 2bill at once....it will mess you up psychologically for at least a day or two. all that isk "you could have had if..." getting popped with 200-300mill in your cargo is less of a big deal.
i recommend using an alt to scout for bubble camps on your way out, or if youre traveling into an unfamiliar pipe. |

thanks. the Ishtar is great because it really allows you to have a decent tank and higher than average dps for cheap, something that T3's struggle with. BC's will do if youre friendly to the space, but theyre simply not ninja.
you can do the same thing with the Vexor for lowsec exploration. |

Nice post OP, some good information in there. I would like to know how people have fared with T3's with the anti-bubble subsystem? Using the covops subsystem gimps your DPS massively so dont use that, but you should be able to use the cloak+MWD trick to have a good chance of warping off from within a bubble.
One thing I would like to add, is that if you have a well setup gang on your ass, it might be possible to scan down a wormhole and exit that way. Sure, you might end up anywhere when you find an exit from within the WH, but that 'anywhere' is a place where they are not. If you are lucky, you can find yourself a highsec exit. |

absolutely! exiting nullsec via WH is something ive always wanted to try. but i didnt write about it because i never actually did. waiting for the pipes to clear and returning to empire during off-hours is generally easier.
but if youre too deep, and carrying lots of good loot, a WH exit would be a great idea.
people dodge bubbles in their faction-fit Tengus all the time, but then you see their destruction on the killboards a few days later. ouch, there go all the profits you've made. |

I'll be in my Ishtar in 18 days. Good timing!
Although I will probably run some LVL4 missions, and then some lowsec to get used to it before I make the trip to null.
And if you dont mind the potential risk and anoyance of ending up in strange places, the WH transit system can work quite well. |

This looks like an interesting activity and the guide looks nice. However I do have some questions.
How would one determine a good place to ninja? You know, the basic stuff like is a short trip through lowsec better than a long one and how far in is generally "safe"? Having only been in lowsec briefly I have no idea what to look for. Also jumping in head first in a 150m ship might be a bad idea. Are there any other good (and preferably cheaper) ships for practicing in lowsec first? |

yep, you can outfit a Vexor in a similar fashion and do lowsec exploration successfully. lowsec can be just as profitable, but the sites are much sparser. considering that exploration profit is based on probability, it goes to reason that finding less sites wont be as profitable. but it's great experience.
finding desirable nullsec areas is the fun part! cant give too much info for obvious reasons, but it has to do with ease of entry/exit, and amount of traffic in the pipes. ive been all over, and there are certain regions in which you can get trapped easily due to short pipe length, numerous choke points, and high traffic. you want long pipes leading to nowhere, and few choke points. |

Would like to expand on this. You should definately practice the whole procedure to master it. At first it might be better to hit mwd and then cloak. Assign both to F1 and F2 and when you get the whole thing down just press both together. Hitting mwd after cloak sounds couterintuitive, but if you do it sorta immediately it will work. Oh and it might exctract some angry responses form the locals :)
Nice writeup tho.
I just don't understand why you don't like magnetometrics in null - to me they seem better than the radars, but that's maybe just personal experience.

I'm showing 3 mins, 45 seconds at all V skills running the AB, MAR and hardeners. It goes stable with the AB off.

it would be something similar to the Ishtar fit. you'll need the 2/2/1 drone loadout, and an afterburner to speed tank. you'll really have to keep your range, and im not sure if you can do Gurista sanctums. but Serps u can for sure, just slowly and carefully. |

It's cap stable at 30% with everything running, including guns. Does 451 DPS with my skills. Blasters can deal with frigs while drones kill everything else. You can go with 4x Ogre's but it only changes the DPS by about 4. Tanks 218DPS against serpentis setup this way. Speed of 444m/s
I've thought about dropping a cap recharger for a web, but I like being cap stable without worrying about pulsing anything.
Edit.
I should say I also have a cloaky scanner alt that does my scanning, hacking, analyzing. Otherwise you could swap the cloak for a probe launcher. Similar you could adjust the mids for a codebreaker. Either way, this is primarily for combat sites. |
