Alts yes. But mains ?
The fact I post alot in teh forums has an impact on my reputation as a character. Ingame as well.
As you can read above (salty ? wtf Blacklight, i'm just bored sometimes ), this can mean that quite alot of people respect you less ingame.
As a reasonably active player being part of a high-profile corp I must have some consideration for that effect too. Besides the fact that I do care about the reputation of my char somewhat out of my own volition (sp).
So, alts, yes, banzor em all. Mains ? No, as the results of your actions here can be found ingame.

If your posts are actually being made fun of, it is because your spelling is so poor. It's SO bad that I have serious difficulty believing you are an adult, let alone an adult possessing 13 years of higher education. How you could possibly pass written examinations or submit a doctoral thesis with such a limited grasp of basic spelling actually baffles me. Frankly, I wouldn't trust a prescription written by a doctor who routinely uses such appalling spelling.
I have no issues with people who have genuine disabilities, or for whom English isn't a first language, but if that's the standard of writing and presentation that 13 years of higher education has left you with, God help the education system.

We have to take into account how people discuss things. Some do it in a calm way and are hard to offend. Some are more hot livered and intense. And so on. I myself easily get "enthusiastic" when discussing/arguing about a matter that I care for, I can even get (as I suspect most would define it as) rude. Then again I simmer down immediatly after and can be best friends again. That's simply the way I am and I hardly think that will ever change. I even prefer to argue with others who are like me, it makes the entire agrument a real experience

lol the term 'salty' in English vernacular comes from our old sailing days (like a lot of english terminology - "cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey" being another one ;) ) and I just meant it in terms of the fact that some of us have been around for a while and are therefore "salty old seadogs"
It wasn't an insult mate just more crazy English-speak. If I was telling you that you forum ***** too much I'd be far more direct about it

Assuming that you have any sort of manners, when you post you have (hopefully) decided:
1. This is important enough that I feel the need to post it so that others may read it.
If it isn't, then have the good taste not to spam the message boards with it.
If it is, have the common curtesy to take the short amount of time to make sure it is indeed readable. Rather or not you are 'weak in writing' you are perfectly capable of re-reading your post ONE time to catch things such as 'nasy' instead of 'nasty' or 'acess' instead of 'access'. Most people don't tend to harass people for small mistakes, such as 'thier' vs 'there', but instead they attack posts that appear to have been pulled from a pile of 3rd grade essays.
If you want to be taken seriously then please put out minimal effort. I mis-spell all the time, yet I've never been harassed for my grammer(though someone will surely find all the mistakes in this post).
In short, if you want to be taken seriously and treated as an adult, please step up to the plate and act like one.
(As a side note for anyone for whom english is a second language, then this does not apply, and feel free to tell people. Only a real asshat goes out of their way to harass a foreign speaker)

Since we're on the topic of spelling and grammer...
That took maybe 3 minutes to go through with Word and have the spellchecker fix up. That included fixing any short form (u, ya, etc) that I saw. If your not good at spelling and grammer, then use this method.

Sadly, even this is still not always 100% effective, although it is, as all can clearly see, a VAST improvement on the OP's horrendous spelling and "txt-speak".
Spellcheckers do NOT help when people are using a correctly-spelled word in completely the wrong place, believing the spellchecker is an infallible safety net when in fact the spellchecker is a simpleton. Purely for purposes of illustration, the word "your", in the post you made, should actually be "you're", as in "you are". Nothing to get agitated about, for sure, but it shows just how far you can trust a program that 'checks' spelling and grammar - basically, not very far!
You can often tell when someone relies solely on a spellchecker to check their text - a local paper here recently used the word "grizzly" when in fact they meant "grisly". Bad enough in a casual posting, but in a newspaper? In an article written by a 'qualified' reporter?
The best spellchecker you own is the one inside your head. Accept no substitute, and update it frequently :)

Chaucer was un-readable by most of his generation due to the style of writing and his ability to invent new words and phrases. Shakespeare was a complete pain in the arse for making up new words in his works.
If anything they were the very soul of SMS back in their day
But yes, they could at least write. Even if no-one could understand them without a little help.

Right. Because age is a surefire indication of how correct somebody is. Luckily for everybody else, there are people as mature as you to repeatedly point this out. Its hilarious that age is always the first defence people produce when somebody points out that they're a semi-literate moron. "OH! IM 40! WHATEVER YOUR TALKIN ABOUT CLEARLY DONT APPLY TO ME!"
It does apply. It will always apply.
The forums are nasty because you get lumped in here with random people you'd probably not like very much in real life, but somehow we're all expected to get along on a forum.
Also: The eve forums aren't more mature than most other videogame forums, they just have better grammar and more maths.

Generally, it's because someone comes on and posts something like that.

That is because the only thing we truly know of you is how you communicate. If you don't come across as educated, people will conclude that you aren't.
Personally, I'd never trust a doctor that was that bad with spelling and grammar. If you can't even spell "grammar", what are the odds that you'll misspell my condition, or the medication you prescribe, and there will be serious consequences for me as the patient?
I'm not trying to flame you, I'm just offering an honest answer as to why you'll get that sort of response.
I'm not here to win any popularity contests. I couldn't care less what you think of me - all that matters is this: Can you defend your opinions? |

As for the rudeness on this board, it's pretty much what I would expect from a game where theft, fraud, deceit, piracy and murder are considered fun and "fair". I would be shocked to see such behavior accompanied solely by polite discourse.
If you are not joking and you seriously think people on these boards are "rude," you must be new to the internet.
The EVE-online forums are without a doubt the most civil and intelligent forums I have ever seen.

LOL there's my quote again.
Just to be clear...I didn't say this board was rude. That was Dark's interpretation. What rudeness there is to be found here is exactly what I would expect from a game of this nature.
Just because there are some rude posts does not mean the whole board is rude.

i highly doubt you are an MD. even if you were, just because you've had 13 years of upper education doesn't make you not a dumbass when it comes to everything else.
by the way, you spelled a lot of things wrong and you are a fool and/or moron and wasting space.
