James McMario wrote:Sometimes it obviously takes some events to finally take decisions. I am playing EVE since 2008, just 1-2h per week as real life is still some kind of important :).
Now I just learned that a fully armored (2 shield extenders) Tayra with 600 MIO ISK freight (my ship and freight of course,) can be blown out of space in INARO (a 0.8 high sec system!!!!!) with just one shot from a 1400mm canon of some player playing EVE sind November this year.
How - for god's sake - can something like this happen in HIGH SEC space. I was even flying the route coming from Jita "in manual", meaning flying from gate to gate by clicking it myself. So NO autopilot. The moment my Tayra got visible because of warping to the next gate exploded, releasing my pod. The guy started shooting at my pod also but that moment I hit warp and was not destroyed.
But - again - how can this happen in HIGH SEC space? I think CCP could balance something like this. Anybody an idea?
Well - maybe off to Star Citizen in the near future, there I can at least blame loosing my ship on my bad flying skills :)
Jim
You should know high security space is safer, not 100% safe if you have been playing since 2008. If it was 100% safe like many assume it should be, then there would be no need for Concord. |

James McMario wrote:I think CCP could balance something like this. Anybody an idea? You didn't tell the whole story. What happened AFTER your ship exploded? Did CONCORD come to the scene? Did they take any action toward the criminal who so dastardly attacked you? Did they destroy HIS ship? I bet they did. With no fair trial to determine whether or not the attack was justified, I bet they gave you the benefit of the doubt, destroyed his ship, and reduced his security status. It sounds to me like CCP has more than balanced "something like this." So what's the problem?
Oh, yes, the loss of your cargo. Well, CCP really has no way of knowing what people will carry in cargo, so it's difficult for them to balance that. They depend on players to make sensible choices about what value they carry in what type ship. They try to help some by making only about half the cargo drop as recoverable loot. That way, if you go a little bit overboard in packing, you won't be too attractive to criminals. But 600 million? Do the math.
Don't get me wrong. I sometimes carry more in cargo than I know I should. I sometimes use the wrong ship, fly through the wrong systems, and do it at the wrong time. I sometimes don't bother to scout. And sometimes I get ganked. As I should. It isn't worth starting a forum thread. It isn't worth quitting EVE. And it isn't something that needs balanced,

Never break up your cargo so it's economicaly worth ganking you. 7. When a Tornado or Catalyst are on grid when your hauling attack ASAP 8. Always autopilot 9. Never usa a scout. 10. Never avoid Jita
I could go on but the above is a very bad starting point for you.

It's not prejudice. Some of my best mates are forum alts. :p However... rewarding people who hide behind forum alts just perpetuates the problem. To the OP, I suggest you not biomass anything, because by leaving the chars and assets intact adds a few more bytes of storage strain for CCP.
Eventually, maybe, if we are lucky, some accountant will be able to win the boardroom battle against the people that think it is great fun building a game skewed wildly towards the sociopaths, and new CCP leaders will get the concept that rejoicing at the killing of "carebears" is not a smart business plan. Most people viewed Orwell's writings as a warning. The harper regime and the goons treat them as a guidebook. |

It seems to be a highly successful and smart business plan so far, so why on earth would they change it? Also, how is the game skewed towards sociopaths? The guy from "Pirannha Corp." is calling people sociopaths. Lol, okay. Blowing up internet spaceships is no more sociopathic than a good round of paintball. Or a nice snowball battle. Now, if some of you guys actually showed up at my RL front door with some 1400 mm arty and took my house and half the block out, well, maybe we got some sociopaths here. Perhaps Dinsdale, you would find SimCity more enjoyable? |

Hrm. EVE is a sandbox. Methinks that players should have more control over the base hulls, in terms of statistics, e.g. armor, resists, etc.. It would be highly amusing to see custom industrials that give up a lot of cargo for vastly improved tanking ability, say the industrial equivalent of the Damnation?
tl;dr - An "arms race" between player designed gank ships and tanky industrials would be amusing.

Eve will never be 100% safe anywhere except docked in a station FACT. Anyone that wants 0 risk in playing a game is playing the wrong game FACT. Thats what makes EVE so unique and apealing to most, you can do what you want, when you want. There are also consequences for doing the wrong thing at the wrong time.
Rather then belittle and trash talk the new players making a mistake into quitting, put 1/2 that effort into educating them where they went wrong and teach them how to prevent it from happening again. We as a playerbase need to help foster the new players attitudes and make them understand what this game is about and how it works. Anyone who thinks they have mastered every aspect of this game is just wrong. There is no manual per se. to EVE, it is a constant learning experience.
If we want to erode the playerbase further, continue to be argumentative infighting a$$hats. A little constructive help can go a long way in making the eve community actually grow.

I had to go check my ganker alt's KB to make sure I wasn't the one who caused you to rage quit.
2 MSEs is not enough to stop a nado from alpha'ing you. You need an invul + LSE or so. Also, we like to use RF EMP, so patch that EM hole!
Hey, if if makes you feel better, I undocked a 750m Ishtar from K3JR-J yesterday and watch my capsule eject as I aligned for warp. Didn't think much of the nado sitting on undock, and I should know better being a ganker myself.
